“My new favorite spot!”
Reviewed June 11, 2013

Took me forever to write this, but reading over the reviews again makes me want to contribute! :) My mom and I stayed here in April this year, and I think I've found my favorite 'spot'. I usually like to stay at different places every trip, but maybe not anymore! We stayed in Room 3, nearest the office. 2 queen beds, microwave, coffee pot, dishes/flatware for 4 people, plenty of closet space with 4 built in drawers, small flat screen TV (never turned it on), AC (rarely used), decent water pressure in the shower. Towels changed every other day, along with cleaning. We kept the back sliding door and the front door open whenever we were in the room, and the breeze was amazing! There was plenty of room on the back patio, with 2 lounge chairs per room. There were also a few more lounge chairs on a covered wooden deck by the small pool. Pool is only about 4 ft. deep, and about 10x8. It was perfect for just cooling off, or floating in the sun. The beach is right at your backdoor, and the sound of the waves was so relaxing. We went every morning to pick up sea glass, and found some great stuff! Water shoes are a must! I spent most of my time in the hammock out back. (Each room has one outside the sliding door). For a couple of nights, there were other people in the adjoining rooms, but it still felt very private. Isabel (owner/manager) is probably one of the nicest people I have ever met, and is a fantastic hostess! She is only there from about 12 or 1 p.m. until 6 or 7 p.m. There is a number to call if anything goes wrong. Definately can't be beat for the price!

Nice & comfortable but a bit far from everything - you must use taxis or rent a bike/golf cart, and that is an additional cost to consider.. You should also take in consideration that theres nobody in the front desk a lot of the hours of the day..

We spent a week at Luna D'Meil in March '13 and found it to be a perfect place for us. We loved having the kitchenette, although a cook top would have made the place better. We made fresh guacamole every day and found the big supermarket at Chaudraui very convenient for snacks, fresh fruit and veggies and very good bakery goods. This place was discovered on our second day tour around the island on a motorbike ($25 for one day). The coffee was expensive and not great, so next time we would take our own from home. The chairs, both on the sea side terrace and front terrace were very comfortable and we enjoyed breakfasts and cocktail hour outside. Our favorite restaurant was very close, La Lomita. Everything was good there-- excellent fish, and amazing soups. (A bowl of soup was a full meal.) The only drawback was no liquor license, so drinks were served in ceramic glasses and the beer was definitely from a can. We also loved Justicia Social, especially for the fish and ceviche. The Sunday BBQ ribs at The Soggy Peso were fantastic! Sancocho's on Hidalgo had good food and 2 for one cervezas in the midst of the tourist area. Just across the way, at La Mexicana Roticeria, we picked up a rotiserie chicken dinner consisting of a whole chicken, rice, beans, pickled onions, hot peppers and tortillas for only $10. It was enough food for dinner for two nights, embellished with our own guacamole, pico de gallo and cerveza frio. The Tikinxic (grilled fish) at Playa Lancheros was fabulous, and the beach lounges under the palm trees were a perfect place to enjoy a good book. We enjoyed a soccer game in Chaudraui on Sunday afternoon, where we also caught a baseball game on Thursday afternoon. We walked everywhere from Luna D'Meil and found it to be a perfect location to see the best places on the island. The sea glass and shells that washed up just below our place from the ever changing waves were fun to collect. Also we had good wifi connection which we used to check out places to go on the island. Travel tip: Our Canadian neighbors recommend using Best Day to travel from the Cancun Airport to the Ultramar Ferry. The charge for the round trip is $17 per person, with the service picking up both at the airport upon arrival, and at the ferry in Puerto Juarez upon departure. The taxi from PJ to the airport is $25 and more expensive going from Cancun to the ferry, so Best Day is worth checking out.

Room Tip: There are only three rooms, but we thought ours was the best, in the far corner from the office. No...

My husband & I stayed at Luna D'Miel for 9 days and with only 3 rooms, we basically had the place to ourselves. The ocean front is very rocky - bring watershoes and you will be fine to walk along the beach. Not a swimming spot, but very beautiful and with the breeze off the ocean, you can sit on the chairs or in the "hottub" sized pool. The pool is NOT heated, but was clean and if you want to sit and have a drink looking out at the ocean it worked great. The morning and LATE afternoon sun hit the pool area. Not idea for sitting in after 11 as it is in the shade by than.
Isabelle is very accomodating, if you don't have something, ask her and she will most likely get for you. We rented a golf cart for the entire time. This was not necessary as you could get a cab without a problem for $4 to downtown.

Room Tip: You hear traffic at night if you don't have the A/C running.

Our hostess ( Isabelle) gave us the BEST customer service we recieved on our entire trip (we stayed 4 places) and by far we had the best service at Luna d Miel. The description did say kitchette, although it is just a microwave ( no coffee pot or cook stove top) Isabelle went to her home and brought us back her personal coffee pot. You can't really hear the waves at night because their are heavy duty sliding patio doors without a screen door. If you don't run the a/c at night the busy road (out front) will interupt your sleep if your a light sleeper. You can easily walk out front and get a taxi in seconds ( 30-40 peso) into town. Although some of the reviews said it is walking distance to town, I wouldn't (especially during the hottest part of the day). A golf cart runs about 50-55 USD a day, so we opted to taxi it. Even if you go to town twice a day, you'll have a significant savings. The small dip pool is refreshing since there really isn't a swim beach on site, but you can certainly get your fill of sea glass and shells. Apparently this owner also owns Maria Del Mar & Villa Kiin ( we also stayed at both of these properties)....my over all rating of these is far less. The other 2 properties need to hire people like Isabelle, the customer service didn't even come close to what we had at Luna d Miel.

Room Tip: there are only 3 suites - they are all the same- chose an end suite if you only want neighbors on 1...

This is a really nice little hotel. It is very small (only 3 rooms) so even if they are full, it doesn't feel crowded at all. It is walking distance to "town" so you can get by without having a motor bike if needed. The kitchenette has everything you need for simple breakfasts/lunches. It was very clean and you cannot beat the price and the view! You can literally wake up to the sound of the waves, you really cant get any closer to the ocean. We visited in the offseason and the pool was full and very refreshing. Yes, it is small, but is a great place to cool off and watch the waves crash. Overall, a great place!!

The rooms are spacious, clean, and well taken care of.
The beds are decent.
The girl working at the hotel was AMAZING. So friendly and helpful! She was probably the most positive thing about this hotel!
The room offers a T.V., small safe box, large sliding glass door to the beach, a hammock on the porch, and two lounge chairs. Very cozy. There was also a sink in our room and a microwave.

The beach here is VERY rocky. If you are coming here to swim, you may want to stay on the mainland or on the other side of the island. We did swim here, If you bring water shoes, it is perfectly fine! It is also a nice calm place to snorkel. While there isn't a whole lot to see out there, our neighbors saw sting ray and we saw a pod of dolphins.
If you like collecting seashells this is your beach!!!! Tons of seaglass and shells!!!!!

It is a bit of a walk to the main town on the island, however, it is definitely doable! I'd say it's about 10-15 minutes at a steady, normal pace.
Most people rent golf carts or scooters, the island is tiny so car rental is unnecessary. I'd recommend a golf cart, it's a great value and easy to get around in!

As for Isla Mujeres, I would personally rather have spent the extra day on the main land or go to Cozumel. It is a nice little island for their mexican street vendors, but it is mostly the same on the mainland. Many stray cats and dogs. If you are a sucker for animals, you'll be heart broken.
The food is decent, but a bit pricey for Mexico! We cut our trip short by two days and went back to the mainland.

Room Tip: Each room has a hammock and lounge chairs, there is no pool! Also, the taxi took us to "miel de...
