This was just down the road from our resort, so we were able to walk. What is so wonderful is the atmosphere of women working together for this. The jewelry is all hand made, and you meet the ladies making it, which is nice. It is not fine jewelry, but more significant for the novelty.

A little hard to find by new Catholic Church, near rotary, but worth the search. Fair prices, quality local handiwork.

I was surprised to find that several of the pieces that I picked up and was looking at had been created by some of the local gentlemen... and when we stopped in, the lady teaching the class was having quite the challenge in getting the older gentleman there to actually FOLLOW her instructions! (I speak Spanish)... This was a fun way to be able to support the local artisans and take home some pretty beaded jewelry - either just a set of earrings, or complete sets...

It is great to support the local community and the beading cooperative is a great place to do that. We had a really hard time finding this place on our first try but when we finally did find it, we realized we must have driven by it over and over. If you go, it is on the same street as the church and right next door (across from the big red "Coke" tents and red plastic chairs. If you like beaded jewelry, this is the place for you.

The women of the bead coop have come so very far through the years! When I first started visiting with bead donations they were making beautiful necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Now they expanded their selection of jewelry from simple to very elaborate and each piece is individualized. They will do custom pieces as well. This last visit they had added purses made from recycled aluminum cans that were very cool!!!! They also have a table at the Artist Fair on the first Thursday of each month. On a small island where industry is limited, I applaud these woman for the work, time, and devotion they have put into growing their own business. You must visit to really appreciate what they have accomplished.
