The hotel is about four blocks from the ferry terminal on Hildago-a pedestrian street. The host was quite plesant and I think this place is likely always booked in advance in high season. The room was small but quiet, spotless, with excellent water pressure and the luxury of a hair dryer. The location was so easy for getting to early morning tours, the beach, and eating. I had a few great nights of sleep here. There is also a breakfast included but that doesn't start until 8:30.

I have just booked 21 days at Hotel Bucaneros. This is our third year at Hotel Bucaneros, and hope for many more. The staff at the Hotel are so friendly, and they make you feel at home. The Hotel is located in the heart of Isla Mujeres' north beach area, and right in the middle of all of the action. Our only mistake last year was that we stayed at Hotel Bucaneros the first half of our vacation, and tried a different Hotel for the second half. Mistake, Big Mistake. This will not happen again.
The management of the Hotel is very honest, and you never have to worry about your reservations. The Hotel is a refreshing experience, and a wonderful oasis. First rate in my book.

Even though Hotel Buchaneros is in the center of activity on one of the busiest streets on isla Mujeres, it's quiet, airconditioned rooms offered a soothing respite from the heat of Mexico in July. They offer breakfst with their rooms, and although we were unable to try it out because our dive charter left before the dining opened at 0830, the small fridge in the room made uit convenient to keep cold beverages handy. The rooms were clean, the staff very pleasant and the free wi-fi very much appreciated.
We were half a block from the nearest dive shop and only steps away from a vast variety of dining choices. The economy lead us to think we were sacrificing quality....not so with Hotel Buchaneros. We will be back, of that there is no doubt and we have already recommended it to all of our friends!

My friends and I have stayed at many hotels on Isla Mujeres over the years, and all things considered, Hotel Bucaneros is our favorite. The rooms are quaint, comfortable, clean, and safe. The A/C is cold, and the water is hot (which cannot be said of some hotels on Isla). The staff is unbelievably friendly, accommodating, and helpful. The hotel's location is extremely convenient. Their restaurant-cantina is delicious, inexpensive, and has everything (seafood, Mexican, Italian, American, and traditional Mayan dishes), so we go there again and again. Writing this review makes me want to return to Isla and Bucaneros!

My family took a trip March 2012 for 7 nights. We stayed at Hotel Bucaneros at the request of our daughter who stayed there last year. We booked three different rooms there because there was six of us, mostly girls. The hotel was nice, friendly and very clean. They had bottled water on every floor for our use, the maids cleaned rooms and changed bed linens everyday. If you cooked they even washed your dishes. We also could put a deposit down for a beach towel for us to use everyday. Just would turn it to be washed at the end of day and get a fresh one the next day. The hotel is on the main street right in the middle of everything so the bank, grocery store, restaurants and beach were all convenient to us. We stayed in the penthouse (room 305) since we where celebrating our aniversary and my birthday. It was two large rooms with a balcony overlooking the street. The livingroom/kitchen could use a ceiling fan since there wasn't an air condition in that room to help circulate the air condition from bedroom. We used that room as our family meeting room before we went out each day or night. We had a great time and we will return one day to this island for another relaxation vacation. What a great place to stay!!!!

Room Tip: Even though our room was facing on main street, at night you couldn't hear the noise with the ai...

My family has been staying at the Bucaneros for several years. We love it. From the friendly and familiar faces at the reception desk to the maids. The rooms are clean, the linens white and crisp, the continental breakfast provides good choice and a place to meet other guests. The service provided by everyone is so friendly and makes us feel welcome each year. The difference is that it is family-run since 1965 and they care. The location is perfect, a short walk to the beach and lots of good restaurants to choose from including an excellent restaurant in the hotel. I also stay here solo as woman and never feel I am in danger of any kind. This hotel is just what I want for my stay on Isla.

The reason I say that this is a great hotel for returning travelers is that if you have been to Isla before, then you already have "scouted" it out: You know where the great restaurants are, you know how close the beaches are, you have ridden around the island, etc. Most first timers want a beachfront hotel... which is great, but i don't mind a little walk.

So, if you are ok with the 5 minutes walk to the beach from the downtown area, Bucaneros is a great little hotel. It has all you really need in a room... clean, air conditioned, and convenient. Wi-fi in the room worked great for our phones and of course, the prices are very reasonable. If you are looking for a spa, or a pool bar, or things like that, this is not your place. If you just want a place to sleep and clean up after a day at the beach, it is very nice.

As for location it is directly across the street from Villa Rolandi's downtown restaurant on the main street, Hidalgo. It is a 5 minute walk to the islands main grocery store and a 5-10 minute walk to North Beach which is where all the beach bars, beach chairs and beds are. And all the wonderful restaurants of downtown (Qubano, Olivias, Amigos, Villa Rolandi, etc) are all just steps away. It is about a 5-10 minute walk from the ferry as well. No need for any transportation while you are on the island unless you are renting a golf cart for fun to explore the whole island.

We stayed in room 202 which had 2 beds, a nice sized bathroom and a little sitting area with a small fridge and a little dining room table. It also has a narrow but great balcony that looks over Hidalgo St. We did not notice any street noise at all, partially because we like the room cool at night and the A/C makes some noise and partially because we had the ceiling fans on high. Between the constant "white noise" of the fans and the A/C we didn't hear any street noise at all.

A note on the ceiling fans... they are solid metal blades and they spin really fast! I am 6'2" and I was convinced I was going to come back one evening a little tipsy and take my shirt off and lose an arm! It never happened, but by the end of the trip I was calling them the "death fans". So watch out for them! :)

Enjoy your trip to Isla Mujeres!

Room Tip: We liked Room 202, I did not really notice any of the other rooms but i THINK that rooms ending in...
