JOYSXEE Floating Bottle Island

Attraction details
Owner description: Richart Sowa built Joysxee, the Floating Bottle Island by himself, with over 150,000 plastic bottles. Shown on MTV Extreme Cribs and Ripley's Believe It or Not, the island that floats on bottles is an ecological masterpiece. Everything on the island was built with recycled materials from the three story house, to the out door bar. Come tour Joysxee and meet the incredible Richie, a real life Robinson Crusoe. An experience you can only find on Isla Mujeres.

This island was very interesting. Wish we could have gotten onto the island for a tour! What a crazy and cool concept :)

“A must do - Joyxsee on Isla Mujeres”
Reviewed October 30, 2012

Although I've known Richie, Joyxsee's creator, for several years, I had never met him before first stepping foot on his island. What we found was a creative, inventive man who had manufactured his own island and did it by floating it on several hundred thousand empty plastic bottles!

Over the years, the island has grown and now includes a second story with a guest room and shower, an outdoor "wading" pool, solar panels, a massage tent, a bar, a wave-operated washing machine, a solar oven. In other words, it has all the comforts of your own home. Joyxsee even has mangroves trees and much more flora which has made this fabricated island home.

When in Isla Mujeres, please do yourself a favor and visit this island. When you arrive on the shore where the island is "moored", yell over for Richie and he'll come greet you with his shuttle boat. Allow enough time not only for a tour of the island, but also to sit and chat with Richie to learn all about his island and his ideas.

Joyxsee is a true gem, not only of Isla Mujeres, but of the world. Richie has done a fabulous job of creating this beauty and will welcome everyone onto its shores.

“Goofy place”
Reviewed October 26, 2012

Rent a golf cart for a day and be sure to stop by and see this place. Gives you ideas. An island tour is a lovely day on Isla and this is one of the sights.
