Recently returned from a two week trip to the peaceful island of Mujeres. We stayed our first two nights at a hotel we had prebooked online and were not happy with it due to noisy location, and the supposed balcony not being even big enough to sit on.
A complete stroke of luck to come upon the gem "Hotel Las Palmas". Immediately liked the place after meeting the Hotel family, Kate, Safari and baby Dania. We are so lucky that they were able to accommodate us and we eagerly moved in the next day. In short this small hotel made our vacation. Wonderful quiet location, within easy reach of everything. Setup of hotel includes large courtyard which is a favourite meeting spot for morning coffee or afternoon cocktails. Great to meet lots of people and hear their experiences with Isla and other places. After our day at the beach or around the town, it way always nice to come back to our comfortable cozy room at Las Palmas, It really felt like coming home.
Hope we will have the opportunity to return to this wonderful Island and great hotel.

Where to start! After a week at a huge resort in Playacar we were looking for something smaller and friendlier and we found it at Las Palmas. Our only complaint is that we did not book our total stay on the island there. Kate and Safari and family made us feel like we were coming to visit old friends. We met more people the first evening then we did the whole week at the big resort. They were all very knowledgeable about the area activities and restaurants. The rooms were very clean, the showers hot, great air conditioners. The bed, not a regular Mexican hard bed, they were nice and comfortable. The courtyard on the main floor was a great meeting place for morning coffee and evening cocktails. The roof top was a great place to cool off in the dipping pool, sit and mingle with the other guests or sit and relax by yourself. Great location, close to beach, close to the main street, but far enough away not to hear the late night party noises from the bars.

If you are looking for a 5 star all inclusive, it is not. But if you are looking for a relaxing stay in a comfortable hotel where you feel at home, this is the place. There is no better place on Isla Mujeres.

CANADIAN OWNED AND OPERATED AND IT SHOWS!!! We are looking at the calendar to book our next holiday!!

My wife and our 2 kids (3yrs & 11months) stayed here for about 10 days and it was fantastic. The lady and her daughter who run this place are extremely friendly, accomadating and very layed back. The hotel has a very tropical feeling courtyard that is very communal which we loved. drinking your coffee every morning and talking to other guests gave it a real homey feel. the rooftop patio was also a great place to hang out at night and have a few drinks talking about the days snorkeling adventures/mishaps.
Also the location of the hotel is absolutely perfect...it is downtown in the thick of things however it is on one of the quiter side streets tucked away as to avoid the noise of the very busy and loud hidalgo ave. Also the hotel is situated about a block away from the beach and also across the street from the local market which includes 4 delicious and very cheap restaurants that serve breakfast and lunch for about 20 - 50 pesos. all in all this place was fantastic...it had a great location, friendly helpful staff who could direct you to any need or questions you had and it was very layed back and communal feeling. i highly recommend las palmas as you will not be disappointed. definately going back.

The owners are very friendly, helpful and great information sources. The hotel is a three-minute walk from the beach. The rooms are clean and comfortable, though as another reviewer mentioned, there is construction noise.

My only objection--and bear in mind that I don't socialize easily with strangers and like my privacy--is that the quarters are very close. If you're on the first level, you open your door to the common area where people hang out most of the time. That's fine for some but I prefer more privacy. Also, if you're in your room and have the window open the conversation and cigarette smoke flows right in. Being on the second level is better.

I give Las Palmas a positive, but qualified recommendation.

Even though it's taken me a few months to write this review, the wonderful time we had at Las Palmas is not forgotten--far from it. This is simply the best deal you can get on Isla for its price, ownership, location, and of course the bed! AC, mini fridge, and location location location! Kate and family make this is a visit to friends, not a business arrangement. And don't forget to visit the rooftop lounge! Should be number 1 on TA.

Las Palmas is a great place to relax. First of all, I am the most high strung person there is, and I was only relaxed on this trip at Las Palmas. My husband could't believe it. Kate, her brothers and Savari are the greatest people ever. The court yard is cozy and you feel at home. The beds are comfortable and rooms clean. The maid does a wonderful job. Yes you hear noise in the courtyard as others have said, but it's a good noise, it gets your day going, kinda like hearing your kids on christmas morning, not that its the kids you hear. The reviews about dirty courtyard, kids and dogs running around PLEASE. The dog is a little poodle pup named Cachito,(spelling maybe wrong) that is well behaved and sweet. Then I heard the complaint regarding the kids, We had several children staying there when we stayed that ranged from little to little. The parents did their very best to keep them quiet and out of everyones way. Children will be children and actualy made alot of down time alot of fun. If you don't like children then go to a resort for adults. In regards to a dirty court yard never saw it. I never smelled smoke or saw chickens the time I was there, as reported. Sounds like alot of picky people that need to go to a five star hotel and pay the price. What did you think for 60 us dollars a night you were going to get? This place is for family people and people that want to meet other people and enjoy each others company. If you choose not to enjoy others company,so be it, they leave you alone. Kate has alot of good advise on places to eat where to go and anything else you might need.
We met a nice couple Tom and Darlene they had just got married!! Tom was a frequent flyer and had alot of good advise on where to get fresh juice, where to dive, and anything you could ask, Thanks for info if you read this. We will go back anyday hopefully next January. Just to also let you know we stayed 4 days at Las Palmas and 3 days at the new Privilege Aluxes. We had a suite with all the bells and whistles, we will take Las Palmas anyday. Thanks to eveyone at Las Palmas we miss ya already

I've never stayed at a hotel quite like this before. Staying at the Hotel Las Palmas felt like I was welcomed into a family. The hotel owners are this nice Canadian family who truly seem to care about their guests.

The place is newly renovated, very clean, quiet, comfortable and has a friendly atmosphere. There are options for hanging out in an indoor reading room with books that you can borrow, a common outdoor courtyard where there's coffee every morning, and a large rooftop lounge area complete with wading pool and hammocks. You can meet other guests and socialize if you want to, or you can keep to yourself if you prefer. The beds are very comfortable and the water pressure in the showers is not too bad either (compared to elsewhere on the Island I'm told).

Best of all--at least for me--the hotel seems to make no apologies for the fact that it actually exists in Mexico.

If you're the type that wants to stay at an sterile all-inclusive that tries to recreate a slice of America (or wherever it is you're from that's not Mexico) perhaps this hotel is not for you. Personally, I don't like to have blinders put on me. The hotel's owners seem to be deeply connected and in-tune to the locals, their culture, and life in Mexico in general. This aspect alone made my trip feel meaningful in a way I don't usually experience--and certainly not because of my stay in a hotel!

Overall my experience was excellent. I would return to the Hotel Las Palmas in a heartbeat and look forward to visiting again some day.
