Just finished 2 wonderful weeks on Isla at Las Palmas with Kate and Safari. We stayed at Nautibeach and 2 other places before finding Las Palmas Hotel. This was our fifth year returning to stay with them. Wonderful, quiet, community atmosphere. Singing and salsa on the rooftop deck. Fresh squeezed juice and veggies across street at local market. Booked 3 weeks for 2015.

Room Tip: Choice of 2 full size or 1 King bed. All rooms good.

Just returned from our third stay with Kate & Safari. And we booked our next stay before we left! So many wonderful things to say about this little hotel, many of which have been mentioned in the other reviews. We spent three weeks at Hotel Las Palmas, and loved every minute...again! The convenience of it's location, the hospitality of the owners, and the attention to details can't be beat. Can't think of another place we'd ever want to stay.

I strongly recommend travelers spending at least a week on the island book here. This is a great place on a budget; if you are looking for a "resort" then obviously this isn't for you. There is a rooftop deck where all the residents gather in evenings to enjoy happy hours / dinners together which can be cooked in the rooftop community kitchen or brought in from a restaurant. Rooms and beds are clean and comfortable, and the proprietors Kate and Safari run a great little "homey" operation. They are also a wealth of information and assisted us with direction to restaurants, activities, etc. which also supported LOCALS rather than the corporate outfits. You must contact them in advance (I recommend emails) and make a deposit (secure through Paypal) and I understood it was a cash-only transaction as I do not think credit cards are taken. The relaxing and low key vibe was right in tune with Island living, and the location in North El Centro makes for a perfect home base. It is also a family friendly place if that is a concern.

Room Tip: Because the rooftop can be a location of evening revelry, consider discussing this fact with proprie...

This lovely place is truly something to recommend! In the beginning of our holiday we started with five nights at the NaBalam which we thought should be perfect for our stay - way too pricy and not super friendly. But we ended up here (reading good reviews for this hotel) - and we were amazed by the ambiance. We were welcomed by smiling Kate (the owner) - who truly makes an effort to make anyone feel at home - and she had chosen the "Mexican Dream" for us a room located on the 2nd level. Cozy room with king size bed, little kitchenette and a fine bathroom with loads of hot water. Towels, sheets and interior looked if it was taken from your grandmothers summerhouse. But we loved it.
There is a big terrace were people hang out during the day and a fully equipped kitchen - we never used it because food is cheap at the restaurants. Breakfast across the street is simple and good and way cheaper than the more expensive 100 meters down the road. We would recommend everyone to stay here - and it seemed liked everyone here were coming back every year.

So thank you Kate and Safari for the perfect holiday. From Lea and Charlotte (Denmark)

An excellent budget hotel, one of the best we've been too. Nothing fancy, but the important details (comfortable bed, good coffee, friendly service, great recommendations and advice) are all taken care of here. The location is very convenient, we were able to walk everywhere. We rented a scooter for a couple days to check out the South side of Isla, which I highly recommend, so much fun. The little restaurants across the street are awesome and really convenient, we ate there for breakfast a few days and lunch a couple times too - great prices and authentic food. We didn't spend much time hanging out at the hotel, but the common areas were cool and you can't help but meet lots of people when you stay here, which we really liked. When we return to Isla we'll definitely book this place again.

We stayed at the top of this comfortable hotel - close to the action. Coffee was made every morning before we got to the kitchen and sometimes we got there very early. There is a coffee urn, drip through and bodoms but enough about the coffee. There is a fully equipped kitchen on the top floor which anyone can use and we made some pretty good meals with items purchased right across the street. there is also a covered seating area to relax in after the beach or shopping where there is the opportunity to meet a diverse collection of fellow travelers and exchange stories and tips about places to go and thins to see. Kate and Safari (mother daughter team that run Las Palmas) are a wealth of information, accommodating, friendly and, I am told, really cleaned up the place. Many of the guests are repeat visitors which says something about the style of the place. There is ample opportunity to socialize as well as many nooks and corners for solitude. Our time there was all too shor and we were there for a week

So much has been said that there is little to add. We loved our stay at this quirky little hotel. The rooftop deck is sunny and communal but there is always a quiet nook to discover in order to be in peace. The lobby area and second floor are shaded. As such, unless you prefer a dark room--I would request a penthouse suite on top floor. There are three. Our bright, cheery room included a wonderful king size bed, futon, chair, full sized refrigerator/sink and small counter with 2 stools. Tiled floors and shower area, AC worked great {there was also a ceiling fan}== the decor was islandy and tropical. All this for $120 a night--AMAZING. The owners are on site--charming, free spirited, and truly concerned about their guests.
Location was perfect-an easy walk to main street filled with bars and eateries. A short block and half to the beach, in view from the deck. Golf cart rentals 3 doors down. An appliance store 4 doors down that has a bank in back to change money over to Pesos ( Dollars and credit cards not accepted at many places.) Local lunch counters across the street {inexpensive, authentic, and yummy} as well as the market for produce and fresh squeezed juices.
At beach...I would recommend taking a right towards the palm trees and sitting. Buhio bar rents 2 loungers and an umbrella for 150 pesos (about $12.50 per day). It is less crowded there and they give you 3 free cans of soda from the bar as well. I would not hesitate to return.

Hotel Las Palmas is your home away from home on Isla Mujeres, tucked away from the hustle-bustle of Cancun. We are a family run hotel (three generations of women, mother-daughter and grand-daughter). Naturally, our place is a very unpretentious accommodation with a casual, friendly atmosphere. We have many comfy communal areas, including a rooftop with a plunge pool. You'll find lounge chairs, hammocks, and tables with chairs to welcome you after a day at the beach - possibly an afternoon siesta. Our communal kitchen is also on the terrace and fully equipped. Our shaded deck on our second level, overlooking the street and is a great spot for people watching or reading a good book.We are located in the heart of the downtown. The beautiful turquoise of the Caribbean and powdery sand beach at Playa Norte are a block away (5 min walk). Just around the corner is Hidalgo Avenue, filled with cuisine from all over the world, live music, and friendly locals and tourists alike. We're directly across from the municipal market with four "loncheria" eating stalls, housing tasty, economical breakfast-lunch meals, as well as fresh squeezed juices. We have a hotel dog, Cachito (hypoallergenic, rasta-hair poodle) who is always ready for a stroll. ... more   less
