We arrived for the 10:30 dolphin encounter. We and our four kids had fun, the dolphins were amazing. Although you are out there for awhile against a fence in the water and the deck you stand on hurts after awhile. The worst part was going to Garrafon Park. All inclusive doesn't mean choice of Corona, water, or cheap rum. Kids wanted a bottled water (extra), Gatorade (extra), and ice cream (extra). Zip line was good but short and they only let you go once. We went back to the boat meeting place and were lied to as the boat left at 3:30, we were there at 3:15, and they said it was "going to the shopping area". They wouldn't let us on and we had to wait another 2 hours to get back. We figured we'd go to the pool with the kids, so went to get towels and they said we should have brought our own, we can only use then for the dolphin swim. Lastly, the pictures they want you to buy are very over priced. It cost them very little to take a picture and print it, but they wanted $250 usd for an album of our family. All in all it was very overpriced for what you get and we wouldn't do it again.

A ferry ride from Cancun takes you to dolphin discovery. Wearing a lifevest you will enter the water and walk along submerged platform. The Dolphins will swim right up next to you from this platform you will interact with them and play games. You will also get the opportunity to swim out in the lagoon go for a ride on the belly of the dolphin as well as do a boogie board ride. It's quite an exciting afternoon

My girlfriend and I went for the VIP all inclusive package which we booked through our rep at the hotel.

Firstly, we were picked up from the hotel and taken to the marina where a Catamaran was waiting for us to take us over to Isla Mujeres, and we kicked off the day swimming with Sharks and Stingrays (completely harmless!)

After that, we went swimming with the Dolphins. We were in a group of about 8 and we got about 40 minutes in the water with the dolphins Picasso and Gioconda and their trainer which really was a fantastic experience (the foot push was especially amazing.)

We then went to meet the 2 Manatees at Dolphin Discovery and fed them lettuce in their pool and chatted with their trainer which I especially enjoyed.

After this, we all jumped into taxis and went down to Garrafon where you can snorkel, zip line and kayak or just relax for the afternoon in their VIP lounge by the pool (where the food was amazing!). A few hours later, we then jumped in taxis back to Dolphin Discovery where our Catamaran was waiting to take us back to Cancun.

Don't get me wrong, this is quite an expensive day out and the photos are quite expensive, however, this is a once in a lifetime experience and you are under no obligation to buy the photos.

All in all, I thought it was a great experience and I would totally recommend it!

We did the VIP experience with the dolphins which included zip line, food & drinks and lockers. The dolphin interaction was fun as well as the zip line. The food wasn't that great though but we had a good time. Snorkeling was included but unfortunately they wouldn't let my teens do it, only adults. I think possibly due to the waves? Punta Sur was also included. I wish we had taken more time exploring the cliffs but our boat yo Cancun was leaving and we had to cut it short. Overall, it was a positive experience.

So, like everyone has already said before, the actual dolphin discovery part is great. We took a ferry from cancun to isla mujeres which is a nice 45 minute ride.
The trainers are patient and let you take your time getting comfortable with the dolphins around. Overall it is a great experience, but it gets bad when you get back to the area where you return your life jackets, you are escorted by the guy who is taking your photos back at the discovery.
You know it is going to be bad when they shove you directly into gift shop without giving you a minute to dry off. From a hot 90 degrees to the blasting chill of the A/C inside. We almost had to sternly remind him to let us get towels first to dry off before entering the gift shop.
Once inside, this is where the ridiculousness starts - all the time spent in the water was basically posing for photos with the dolphins, so now you are almost obliged to buy the photos both as a memory and because of the fact that it was the only thing you were doing for the last 45 minutes. They generously offer you all the photos in your set for a measly $110 (1300 pesos). Not happening, how about a couple of photos of both me and my wife, sure it is $28 per photo , so take your pick - 4 photos for $108 or the entire set for $110.
I understand paying a premium for experiences and then getting photos (like $20 odd at most places in the US), but paying over $100 just for photos is absolutely unreal.

This might seem like a rant, but believe me this is exactly how you would feel. We spent the second half of our time in isla mujeres contemplating whether we should be buying the photos or not when we should have been enjoying our little time there - so whether you buy the photos or not you leave with a bitter taste.
