We experienced the same identical problem as the "Beware of Fraud" review dated Jan 07, 2005 with the fraudulent use of our credit card number after we got back from Villa Vera. Other than that, Villa Vera is a beautiful resort with excellent service.

We returned from our trip on saturday the 25th. Our experience with Villa Vera was great. We found the room clean with sparse but adequate kitchen utensils and dishes, clean linens, a wonderful pool and a friendly, courtious staff (maid service every morning and they washed your dirty dishes!). We basically used the villa style suite as a base for our adventures; sleeping ( my son slept on the fold out couch and said it was comfortable ) and eating breakfast and using the pool in the afternoon. The front desk assisted us with any arrangements we needed and were available 24 hours. Initially they put us in the wrong room but before we could say anything they realized the error and rectified it. Our twelve year old was able to find cartoon network in english and probably half of the TV stations were in english or with english subtitles. My eighteen year old was enamored by the pool bar and the fact he could legally drink! The dock has a section squared off around an old wreck that has a lot of reef fish; like looking into a large aquarium. We enjoyed watching the fish while we sipped coffee or cappucino available at the pool bar early. All in all a very relaxing, comfortable stay. Do I recommend it? Certainly. would I go back? Definately. I'll write a review of our trip on the Isla forum.

May 7, 2005 - We left Villa Vera on Isla and I was determined to write a revue. It's a charming island where the people are friendly. It's small and very laid back.

V.V. has a few problems. it has the ants that one expects in Mexico and mosquitoes. It's main problem is the units don't have enough equipment, ie dishes, glassware etc. I slept on a chaise for a week as the hideabed was impossible and very uncomfortable sooooooooo by placing blankets underneath me I managed to sleep alright. The master suite is huge will all manor of amenities, the downstairs quarters are a joke. It doesn't work for two couples.... maybe three people at the max. Maid service was sporatic. Overall we enjoyed ourselves as people make the difference.

When you come in at the airport DO NOT take the green line. For $12@ we were in the van for 2 hours. Take a taxi at $20 to the terminal. Make sure it's the terminal with the resturant at the top. The other terminal is ripoff city and you don't want to go there. You want to be on the catamarans. More comfortable and efficient. Buy a one way ticket as you don't get a break by buying roundtrip it's $3.50@. All taxi routes have a price posting so you shouldn't be in trouble there. On Isla the taxi base is right next to the ferry landing.

The resturant at the Nablum Hotel on Isla, an unusual name I can't recall is excellent. It's something like Zang Hua. The best. Sunset Beach is good for drinks and the sunset...........forget dinner as it's expensive and not very good. Drinks, music and sunset only.

Isla is a place to relax and enjoy. I would go again someday, but not too soon.
Alameda, CA

We stayed at Villa Vera the end of February and found it excellent!
When staying in a third world country, you need to remember that things are not like they are in the US. That may be why the previous reviewer was so negative.
We found the rooms to be clean and very spacious. Ours was large with a king size bed, sofa bed, table and 2 chairs, mini bar. The bathroom had a huge whirlpool, marble sink, and a separate room with another sink and toiliet. One major plus is that you can flush as usual at this hotel. If you don't know what I mean by that, you have never been to Isla before. At most hotels and restaurants on Isla, you cannot put toilet paper or anything else (other than human waste) in the toilet - The sewer system cannot handle it. This hotel has a macerator so you can flush like at home!!!
We tipped the maid everyday so we had a spotless room every night when we returned.
One of the employees even gave us a tip to stock up on cerveza's and snacks from a nearby mini super to save on the minibar charges. We also bought coffee in town. If you use the coffee for the 4-cup in-room coffee maker that the resort supplies it is $5.00 per day. We don't mind spending money on vacation, but we like lots of coffee in the morning, so this saved us a little money.
We found the restaurant to have excellent food, the restaurant itself could use some nicer decor (overhead lights way too bright!). We ate outside instead and enjoyed the beutiful setting by the pool.
The hotel pool is gorgeous! We never did make it to the private beach club, so I cannot review that. We spent a lot of team at the main beach on Isla (Playa Norte) which is absolutely beautiful. Turqoise waters, lots of sand and beach chairs to rent. The water is waist deep going out 200 feet!
One note about the location if Villa Vera. Keep in mind that you are a little ways out of town, so you can't really walk to anything. Cabs are plentiful though on Isla, and the front desk is more than accomodating with calling a cab for you any time of day. The front desk was very helpful in general, even arranging a tour to Chichen Itza for us.
You should also rent a golf cart for a day. Sometimet it seems there are more golf carts than cars on the island! It is an excellent way to see the island at your own pace.
Isla is really a piece of heaven on earth. Just remember you are in Mexico and respect the people, understand that not everything will be the same as in the US. You are on vacation.. Isla Mujeres is a very laid back place, and the people are incredibly helpful and friendly. Go with the flow and enjoy yourself!

The pictures look nice, and the property is nice, but we had problem after problem with our room. The first room we stayed had ants all over the bathroom and the key did not work and for 2 days we could not lock our room, they assured us it was safe, then finally moved us to another room..which was a royal pain. The last thing you feel like doing after traveling and unpacking your suitcases is loading everything back up and carting it to another room. Needless to say the jacuzzi tub in the room didn't work either. I stood there in the shower waiting for 20minutes for it to fill up, tried to turn it on...and NOTHING, so I phoned the front desk they told me someone would be there to help start it....25mins later..NOTHING. This hotel doesn't seem to follow through with anything they say. Don't even bother with the beach they boat you over to(Zama Beach). The second day we decided to go there and with much disappointment you wouldn't even want to get into the water. There was seaweed and rubbish about 10 feet into the water. We sat there for 20 minutes then took the power boat right back to the resort and stayed by the pool. Eventually we did find Playa Norte Beach which is very very nice and ended up going there the rest of the week.My fiance and I love to travel, we have been to many beautiful destinations in the carribean and many nice resorts. This isn't the worst place to stay but I wouldn't pay to come to Villa Vera Puerto again. A few positives the rooms were clean for the most part and the bartenders/waiters were friendly. The pool area was very pretty if you like sitting/laying out by the pool. The cab rides were pretty cheap it was about $2.50 to get to the beach and to town. Casa O's restaurant was very good we ate there twice and Casa Rolandi was nice too.

We just spent a great week at the Villa Vera Beach & Yacht Club, in Isla Mujeres, from 8-28-04 through 9-5-04. If your idea of a great vacation is non stop action, then Isla Mujeres may not be for you, but if you are looking for peaceful tranquility, and a beautiful resort to enjoy it at, the Villa Vera will deliver in spades! Our room was spacious and luxurious, as well as being kept VERY CLEAN by the maid staff. The service at check-in and throughout our trip was prompt and friendly. The facility was very well decorated and maintained. Food options were limited, but very good and reasonably priced at the one restaurant at the resort. You could choose from a simple but nice table indoors, or a simple but beautiful table out by the pool bar that featured a very pleasant atmosphere in the evenings. There are no US franchise restaurants on the island, but if you must, you can choose to take a water ferry, (about a 30 minute ride) to Cancun for a tremendous choice of everything from all the franchise food you are used to at home, to typical mexican fare, or even 5 star dining. If you want the quiet and seclusion of Isla Mujeres, but still need the thrill of activities, it is reasonably easy to use the ferry system, and enjoy both worlds. Many people choose to stay in Cancun and take a day trip to Isla Mujeres for a day at the beach, or to do some snorkeling. We did just the opposite. We went to Cancun for a day trip, and enjoyed the Island the rest of the time. There are only 24 rooms at the resort and the pool and amenities are large and never seem crowded. Some places you need to reserve a loung chair by the pool by 10:00am or risk being left without one, but at the Villa Vera you could just go out anytime of the day or night and find a couple of lounges and an umbrella available. You do share the facilities of the resort with the guests from the yachts that are berthed there, but that gave us a chance to see some of the largest and finest mega-yachts we had ever seen. Flying into Cancun is very cheap compared to most places, and the boat ride to the island is easy to arrange, so don't be intimidated. If you want to rest & relax, we would recommend the Villa Vera in Isla Mujeres highly!
PS: Isla Mujeres is only about 3 miles long and 1/2 mile wide so renting a golf cart is a pricy but fun way to see the whole island. For a special evening out, the restaurant at the Casa Rolandi is the only 5-star restaurant on the island. It is pretty pricey, but the food and service are excellent and the setting is very romantic.

Style and first class accomodations await. This is 25 room resort with security, privacy, and one of the best pools on the island. You will find it located at mid-island not far from the end of the airport runway (no worries, only a couple of planes per week land on Isla). Villa Vera is in the top 3 or 4 resorts on the entire island. Resort has a private beach reachable by a FREE launch shuttle. Very nice people. Several Multi-Billionaires park their yachts (100+ foot variety ships with 10-15 crew - definitely the lifestyle of the rich in famous type) at the dock and dine a few nights before heading out to another port. The one BR Suite has a king bed, TV with remote, eventhough all but 1 station in Espanol, marble floors, jacuizzi tub, shower, great colors, and hammock on the porch. Large circular pool is largest on the island (I looked at most all the others.) This is a place where you can easily get to town via cab, and is on the 3 peso bus to get home from town. Only RCI participating club I know of on ISLA. Unless you are the big, Cancun-needy type of guest, then you will be sorry you missed this one.
