“Wonderful discovery - authentic Mexican restaurant!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2014

Staying in a casita within walking distance of Deysi & Raul's El Charcol Restaurant, it came highly recommended by locals who live on Isla. We were NOT disappointed in this clean, family-owned, friendly little restaurant!! Six of us sat outside on the small patio to catch the evening breeze and we were warmly welcomed by the owner, Deysi. Would highly recommend the empanadas (large and easy to share), and delicious tacos. You can order 1, 2, or three - and we got the pork with cheese. Delicious! Very reasonable prices too!

The food comes very flavorful, but is not spicy. Sauces are available, which can be added to your meal to make it as hot as you like! Sides are also available.

Sitting on the corner in this Colonia neighborhood, we felt like locals as we watched the neighborhood activity! This was a wonderful little discovery and I would encourage everyone to try it. Be advised, check to see when it opens - it was 7 pm the night we were there and we had to wait a few minutes. (We just got a cold beer from the small grocery down the block as we waited.)

“Great food and lovely service.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 9, 2014 via mobile

A group of eight of us were looking for a close place for supper. Not wanting to head back into the north end, we opted to try El Charco. What a great find! Tasty food with selection of sides makes this mom and pop place a great alternative at half the price of others. Will def return!

“El Charco saved the day!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 19, 2014

We love El Charco! It is delicious, inexpensive, authentic, and consistant. We had a group of 10 friends staying on the island as well...after a long day of beaching and drinking they were starved and tired. It was late so they called us to get a suggestion for takeout...we sent them to El Charco..One of the guys went and got 6 different meals, they split that between everyone and it was more than plenty and delicious. So 10 adults ate a wonderful authentic meal for less than $50. They went back every day after that. The owners are wonderful and friendly and I always feel good about supporting them. It's hard to find if you are not familiar but the easiest way to find it is to take a taxi or get directions to the old English school...its directly across the street. :) Not a lot of english is going on there so be prepared. ENJOY!
