“Captain Tony is great!”
Reviewed December 30, 2012

Took a chance on calling to see if Tony was available to go to Contoy & it was our lucky day! No one had shown up to leave earlier in the morning so 4 of us were able to go with Captain Tony over to Contoy. We stopped on the way there to see if the fish were biting & sadly they weren't. Captain Tony & his nephew prepared an amazing feast for us while we were there and it was just an all around great adventure. I highly recommend Captain Tony as he is such a great guide. He's a local so he's able to answer any question you may have about Isla!

“Best boat operator on Isla Mujeres!”
Reviewed December 17, 2012

We have traveled out with Tony on 3-4 different occasions. We have gone to Isla Contoy a few times, snorkeling around Isla Mujeres and have gone to see the Whale Sharks. He is centrally located in downtown Isla Mujeres and easy to find. You just show up at his house the morning you want to go and away you go! We always stop by when we arrive and see what his schedule looks like so we can try to figure out what we want to do. His prices are very reasonable and you are dealing directly with the person taking you rather than through the hotel or one of the salespeople who are getting a cut. He has been boating on the waters his whole life and his Father did the same. He knows the sea in the area very well and always manages to steer us around weather or find the best spots. He knows when to arrive to beat the crowds and is very accommodating with any request. The boat is smaller but that gives you a much more personal experience that the huge Cancun based boats. When you see dolphins jumping or a sea turtle, Tony will slow down, stop or even turn around so you can see and get pictures! Of all the times we have been out, we only had one trip where it was even a little bumpy. The bigger boats will, of course, be smoother but you lose so much in the experience! I highly recommend Tony and his crew!

“Isla Contoy and snorkeling!!”
Reviewed October 21, 2012

Captain Tony has a very small boat so if you have any tendancy toward being seasick, I'd say get a different tour. He definitely knows his way around the sea, and where to snorkel. We went to Isla Contoy where we had time to explore a little, and have lunch. Other boats that arrived had tour guides, which would've meant a lot. When we checked in with him that morning, he said we were waiting on two more people. They didn't show so he wanted us to cover that expense. We pitched in a few more pesos, but not for two! Given the amount of food he brought, he knew it was just the 5 of us. Soured my opinion of him. The snorkeling, however, was awesome. I'd not done it before and there was a lot of pressure from the rest of the group. So I did, and had a great time. Use Captain Tony but know what you're getting.

“The Best Boat Tours by Far!”
Reviewed October 9, 2012

We loved the day we spent with Capitan Tony and will definitely use him again the next time we are in Cancun. It is well worth getting the ferry to Isla Mujeres to go with him. He is a really friendly caring person and he is brilliant at his job. We went with him on the whale shark/Isla Contoy/Reff Snorkelling combo tour for $125 per person. This was a whole day tour from 8.30am to late afternoon and definitely value for money.

It was a really breezy day and the sea was definitely lumpy so the trip out to the whale sharks was a real thrill ride. Unfortunately on the day we went there were only a couple of whale sharks at the surface and, whilst it was disappointing not to see more, the encounter we had was awesome. Capitan Tony expertly dropped us just ahead of the shark and we were able to follow it until it swam down out of view. It was beautiful and ethereal and something I will treasure for always.

Isla Contoy was stunning and we were able to spend a few hours there exploring, snorkelling and eating the delicious food that Capitan Tony and his brother cooked for us right on the beach. Absolutely perfect!

On our return to Isla Mujeres we stopped at the reef and did another 30 mins of snorkelling. There was so much marine life, including the enormous rainbow parrot fish. During the snorkelling Capitan Tony was our guide and pointed out things of interest. He is very knowledgeable about marine life, boating and the sea in general and a lovely person to hang out with.

Email him on capitantonys@hotmail.com you won't be disappointed.

“Bumpy, but still fun, whale shark tour”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

We chose to go on our whale shark tour with Captain Tony Garcia, versus all the numerous other tour companies on Isla Mujeres. It was a great decision, as he didn't disappoint. It was a windy day, so the water was rough. I didn't know how I would handle being on the ocean, as I hadn't been on a boat in a long, long time. I got quite sick, but despite that, it was a good time. Tony expertly navigated the waters and led us to a site where we found one shark. We took turns in groups of 2 or 3. It was so lovely seeing the massive creature and we were able to get fairly close (it's hard to keep up with how fast they swim). After a couple times in the water, we made our way to another location where there were a few sharks. But there were also so many boats and other snorkelers in the water. He made a very wise decision to pull us out of the area because there were too many passengers in the water who had lost their boats. He also was worried about the sharks' well being with so many people swimming after them. We then made our way back to shore and he and his first mate cooked ceviche and guacamole for lunch. Even though my stomach wasn't in a state to handle much food, it was much appreciated.
I was pleased with the overall experience because Tony seemed to know the water well, and was keen on treating the sharks and the ocean with respect. I would go on his tour again!
