“Great place!”
Reviewed February 15, 2014

This is the third time staying at Maria de Pilar and I can't wait to go back again. The owners (Gladys and Gunther) are very accomodating. Very laid back. Perfect location. Rooms were cleaned and swept daily. There is no security, but it is not needed. I always feel very safe on the island and I always make sure I am aware of my surroundings. I love staying on the second floor. We enjoyed hearing the nightly music from La Terazza (just around the corner). Music was always over by 11:30 but it sounded so good we hated for it to stop. Visit Glady's clothing store too. She makes everything in it!

This hotel is more of a hostel but has features that are good for traveling on a budget. The room was very basic. No bathroom door, just a curtain. The mattress was very old but the AC worked great. There is a kitchen in the courtyard and a table where people sat and ate and talked. I met great people here who were very friendly and open. The location is convenient but loud. It's loud as in "is that band in my room?", loud. If you stay out till 3 am partying this will not be a problem. Otherwise it might drive you insane. So, for the price it's okay if your expectations are not too high.

Me and my partner were eaten alive in this hotel, bites were in lines similar to bedbugs as opposed to mosquitos. Aircon worked fine, room was noisey all night from the bar opposite. No security at night, all staff seem to disappear at 10. Moved to another hotel on the island I preferred, and that was cheaper

I would not call it a hotel, rather than a Hostel.
I guess that there aren't many options in Isla Mujeres, and this one is located close to the ferry and main streets. Air con is efficient.
However, we got a horrible room on the ground floor, where there was a septik tank and whenever we used the toilet, this horrible sewage smell filled the room. Also, two huge cockroaches showed up! I wouldn't recommend this hostel

Room Tip: Maybe ask for a room on a top floor.

We stayed here for 11 nights, the upstairs rooms are in our opinion the best, we stayed in 3 different rooms here and personally the upstairs with the veranda is a great bonus. The price is good and the outside kitchen upstairs helps save some extra pennies (There is a downstairs kitchen inside a room too). It has a great location in downtown, it can get a little noisy from all the bands playing live music but that usually finished quite early anyway. The staff are all friendly and i would recommend this place to any travellers that are travelling with two as the price is great.

Room Tip: Pack some ear plugs if your a light sleeper.

We stayed In Maria del Pilar on August 19 to August 28 2013

First: the good it has a small little kitchen with everything we need to cook small meals,
I enjoy it very much, we had our own bathroom, A/C and TV, and a little porch or sitting
area which was appreciated. The price was good for the area very close to the best beach
playa Norte and close to food stores, and little Mercado to buy vegetables.
The: Bad which is not a really bad, was the day we check in the room seem a little dirty, -
line in the bad has spots on it, which was fixed the next day the lady that does the cleaning-
did a good job changing it and cleaning really good the room! The price was right because it
was low season August we paid $ 318 dollars for seven nights.

Room Tip: front rooms have more privacy and a place to sit outside your room!

Maria del Pilar is a perfect choice for those seeking budget accommodation. The rooms were clean and fresh, with a/c, hot water and a fridge. The kitchen outside was equipped with all you need to cook.
The location was perfect and the staff were very friendly (although they did not speak English).
