“La Negrita-A Hidden Gem-Not For Everyone”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 29, 2012

La Negrita is a small loncheria on a side street in Isa Mujeres, Mexico. It is family run and hard to find. But if you are ambitious and hungry, you will not be disappointed. The food is excellent and cheap. Don't be put off by the looks of the place, it is old and looks it. The owner is always on site and eager to please. Simple, classic Mexican food prepared perfectly.

“Simple and Tasty”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2012

We have eaten here for several years now and it doesn't seem like a trip to Isla without a dinner or three at Negrita. It doesn't seem to get much notice on the boards, but this is some tasty food. They have a large, new menu, but the chorizo tacos are still our favorite.

This is a great place to eat. Very reasonable and tasty with a local Mexican flare.

“Manuel is a 5 star man!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 4, 2011

Manuel is a 5 star man! He is such a friendly happy person and I'm so glad I met him!

GreekCook's review has a phrase that hits the nail on the head..."You can eat there too if you're not squeamish about the setting."

The restaurant itself is kind of cool (and some things in it made for great photos like the door!) and I did like it a lot. Having said this, the bathroom was in a class of it's own. The only reason I ate here after seeing it was that there was a sink at the side of the dining room with paper towels and soap along with a sign basically stressing the importance of washing your hands. :-)

I ordered a coke and for the first time enchiladas suizas (55 pesos total for lunch). It's difficult to rate this dish as I've never had this before...from what I gather it was 3 separate tortillas each filled with chicken and swiss cheese..put in the micowave to heat up & melt the cheese..then green sauce poured on top along with cream. It had microwaved rice on the side that I didn't particularly care for but I did eat about 1 of the 3 tortillas and I've said that it wasn't that the food was bad, this just ends up maybe not being my type of meal?

Am I glad I went? YES! The greatest thing about visiting La Negrtia was Manuel! He's awesome!

“La Negrita”

I ate fish there three times in March. Manual is the best host ever and quite entertaining. The fish is always fresh and tasty.
