Staff is very rude and unfriendly. Room was ok. Bedding was clean but curtains were disgusting. Very basic room. Bed, nightstand and small tv. Location was right on beach but still have to pay to rent beach chairs. And the hotel only lets you trade in your beach towel every 3 days. Restaurant was not good. Stayed in Castle room which is across the street from the main hotel. And is supposed to be the nicest rooms in the hotel. Would hate to see the other rooms!

coming to cabanas maria del mar twice a year for a while and really can't see a reason to change.most recent stay was oct 24 - nov 3. room was adequate size - two double beds, i find them pretty comfy, good fridge, clean linen every day, great pool; the 2nd floor balconies are huge, with a table and chairs as well as two highback rocking chairs. great neighbourhood - on the beach, close to the mercado, tienda across the street and less than ten minutes from downtown. the staff are very pleasant and helpful - always nice to be greeted by a friendly face. we try to arrive a bit later in the afternoon, after three...that gives the staff time to have lunch undisturbed.

Room tip: 2nd floor cabana rooms have huge balconies

You simply can't beat the location of this hotel. Our room was clean, quiet and extremely affordable. This isn't a 4 or 5 star resort, but if you are looking for a clean room in the perfect location I would recommend this hotel.

Room tip: If you don't need two beds, I would definitely ask for a room in the Castle Section of this hotel. They have been recently updated.

PERFECT location a hundred feet from the beach! Old school room. Not all new and fancy but very functional and REALLY reasonably priced. Really, how much time do you actually spend in your room? Too many rooms already had their hurricane plastic on windows. Was given one like that but insisted on one uncovered. Took a few minutes (ALMOST thought we had to go somewhere else!) and they accommodated our request. Paid american cash...was WAY cheaper than pesos or credit card. Beautiful courtyard. Sat outside with our feet in the sand right outside of our room watching the stars at night Quiet and peaceful, even during the day. Been there 5 times already. Will be back again!

The rooms were basic, clean, and located a 5 second walk to the beach! We stayed in white stucco section across the street from pink stucco office - seemed newer and nicer although the bathroom in my room looked 20 yrs older than the rest of the structure/walls, etc.? Bath looked older, but was plenty spacious and certainly functional. The lobby was understaffed every time we tried to ask a question, but staff was certainly friendly enough when you found them.

Free coffee and toast points in the morning aT the beach club/restaurant - other food items we ordered were fair.

Hammocks by attached restaurant are nice, but noisy. The beach massage therapist there is awesome and unique from a technique point of view, but i mentioned the noisy hammocks because the hammocks 4 feet away from the massage table can be a beachie spa downer!

Lastly, the excursions (whale, fishing, etc.) all end by anchoring up about 100 yards off the beach every afternoon. We actually got off our boat and walked straight to hotel - that was awesome!

Despite negatives mentioned here, I would go back...I would just be likely to skip food/massage there.
