Hotel Posada Del Mar
Reviewed March 9, 2013 via mobile

Checked out today;( another wonderful stay. It's great to return to the Posada Del Mar and be remembered from our prior visits and welcomed with open arms
They same great staff from year to year. Our last visit was in June 2012. They are working hard repainting and.designing the common areas and landscaping. During our 10 days there was something new at every turn. This is a great family environment. The rooms and grounds are kept super clean. The beach is right across the street and is a beautiful place to see the sunset. We missed the beach chair service they have had in the past so if you need one, walk 50' to the north where there are chairs with GREEN umbrellas and ask for Juan. We would like to see this service return and the business go to Romy's bar at the hotel. If you stay, ask the front desk about the "pay it forward" coffee pot. Since there is no pot in the rooms, someone started to "pay it forward" to another guest who would enjoy it. We were a lucky recipient. In hopes we can enjoy it again at our next stay. To sum it up, great place, great people, great location. We will never stay anywhere else. Laid back and quiet. You will be sad to leave.

This hotel is in a great location on Playa Norte! An easy walk from the ferry dock and across the street to the gorgeous beach that Isla is known for. You can rent chairs for $15 +/- per pair from one of the chair vendors on the beach.
**Our first room was in the old buildng - NO WAY would I say any of this review is for that area. Be sure when you book you request to be in the newer areas - the "old" room smelled musty, stale, small and overall not worth the money at all. We expressed this concern, stated we had NOT booked this room type and were easily moved to the correct area. We were in the newest buidling and it was fine. No smell, decent size, had a small fridge so all this review is based on that information. Newest building, yes. Old buidling, NO.

If you are coming to Isla expecting Cancun/Playa type resorts and amenities, you should probably just go there instead. Or, head to the southern part of the island (farther away from Hidalgo and the "activity (if in ithis quiet island's form, you can call it that!) There are a few all inclusives that cost more and will have lots of similar features you might like.
If you want a good location, a clean room (maid service was great for us,) friendly staff (Remy, Jorge and anyone else we encountered was cordial) this could be for you. I have reviews for our other Isla hotels on Trip Advisor if you want to compare my information side by side (Avalon, Maria Del Mar, Privilege Aluxes)
There is a small bar/lounge area with great potential to be a fun spot. Live music some nights, nice contemporary furnishings. It was usually empty - a couple nights there were some guests there before heading to dinner and it was a fun time!
We never tried the on site restaurant. It has a beautiful open air view of the ocean. Didn't ever see any people in it!? Management: One suggestion to get people there - offer a european toast and coffee option just to get some bodies in there! We surely would order some juice, bacon etc! Valuable space being wasted!
As a side note, in the 7 days we were there, the owner seemed to be working overtime to spruce the place up! Lots of landscaping, painting, decoration changes, the shack in the front getting overhauled - all much appreciated and made big improvements! For the price, it is a great Isla value.

Room Tip: Request New, Newer or Newest building that surround the pool. There are suites as well that have mi...

My wife and I stayed at the Posada for 3 nights starting Feb 17. We had previously stayed here a couple of years ago, had our 2 kids with us back then. In August it only cost about $60 but now in high season it was closer to $100. At $60 expectations are lower but $100 the little things start to bother you more. The hotel has an excellent location. Right across the street from the beach and close to all the stores and restaurants. But it is in need of some work. A fresh coat of paint and some TLC would really improve the looks. I can't believe how unfriendly the front desk is. At check in, check out or any other time of the day, there was never a hello, thankyou or acknowledgement that you weren't a disturbance to their day. We had a couple problems with the A/C and water. The A/C had no cover on it and just looked crappy but ended up working fine and no hot water one night. We did have a TV in the room but no volume or channel knobs. Also I never saw anyone in the pool, it was very cold and dirty. But there are many positives as well. The room, although very sparse, was clean. We had a king bed that seemed enormous and very comfortable. We stayed in the New Section but didn't have the weird bathrooms with a half wall. Actually had a good size bathroom with large walk in shower. Nice balcony, but could use a little cleaning up. Overall, we had a great time on the island and would maybe return to the Posada. There are definitely nicer places but you are going to pay more. If you want a basic place close to everything then depending on the price I would recommend trying the Posada.

This is just an average hotel but it's excellent beach access makes it attractive. There is also an attached outdoor restaurant and a pool. The bathrooms are funky though with a picture window in the shower, making the bathrooms not completely enclosed. Also you want the newer side of the hotel which is much nicer than the older rooms on the front. The restaurant is good and you get a good view of the beach. This hotel is within walking distance of the ferry if your bags aren't too heavy.

This is a big hotel with swimming pool and it is right down the street from the ferry dock. The staff is friendly and helpful. Our room was on the third floor with a nice little balcony overlooking the action.

If you're going to Isla Mujeres on a back-packing trip, trying to stay budget friendly and know that you're getting into a Travel Lodge/Motel 8 kind of situation, this place is fine. It's got a great location near the beach and it's affordable.

That said, if you are expecting any kind of Homewood Suites, Holiday Inn, basically any standard American hotel, get ready to whip out your best Mckayla's not impressed face.

Really this place reminded me of an abandoned Hollywood back lot: portions of the hotel were just straight-up unfinished, there were leftover pieces of furniture and towels laying around, wood and carpentry supplies sat in the alley between the balcony and lobby, and it looked like most of it hadn't been touched in years.

For us, it was more that we expected an average hotel and we got sub-par. We arrived around 4:30pm, walked up to the lobby desk, and said, "Excuse me?" We thought the front desk guy was looking down at something and didn't hear us. So we asked again, "Pardon, Senior?" Nope. He was fast asleep. "EXCUSE ME?" He begrudgingly looked up at us like it was no big thing. It actually wasn't really a big deal, and was kind of funny more than anything, but it was still not what we were expecting.

We got our room key (just one) and paid a $100usd deposit for the lock to the safe in the room. Our room was on the second floor overlooking an abandoned house with an empty pool and overgrown yard. Our room door was wide open when we got there. No key required I guess. You get two towels and one floor towel. There is no closed-off bathroom. There is a door, but the shower has a half-height glass back that opens at the top to the bedroom. So essentially, if you're rooming with someone whom you don't want hearing your bathroom business, you should stay elsewhere.

The room wasn't dirty, just kind of old and unkempt. The bathroom shower, though, was definitely gross. It needed some CLR like nobody's business. It had maybe eight, nine, total functioning holes, and they were definitely pointing water in all kinds of directions. It was cartoonish. When my fiance took the shower head downstairs to ask for a different one, the same lobby guy just took a paperclip, opened it up, started poking the holes with it, and began walking back up to our room. He poked for about 5 minutes, fastened it back on, and turned it on. It was kind of better, and he smiled like the proudest five year old in kindergarten. We said, "Thanks?" and he left.

A couple more pluses include the water cooler in the lobby (no paying for bottle after bottle of water, just the one and refill it), the pool is pretty decent and was never busy, and the restaurant in front gave you free toast at breakfast (I was wondering if you would like to join me in my quarters this night... for some toast?)

All in all, if you're the kind of person who expect resort living in Mexico, just pay the extra $100/night and go elsewhere. If you can't afford it, then come here and just push that bar further down, set it at ankle level, and you'll be just fine.

Room Tip: Come here for the budget-friendliness. Go elsewhere if you have hotel "requirements" of an...

i have been visiting isla for many years, but had not been in the past 4 yrs. The hotel was clean, all rooms had balconies and the size was comfortable. The location is great. The staff was very nice as well as accommodating. I would stay there again. I thought, for Isla, it was pricey....$100/night. Hotels can be gotten for MUCH less than that. This hotel did have a bar, restaurant, and pool (many do not). Water coolers are downstairs for your convenience. WIFI was only accessible in the lobby, a bit inconvenient, yet doable.
