“Great location, beautiful beach”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 8, 2011

The beach next to Na Balam is incredibly beautiful and romantic!! Would recommend room #5-has private balcony, is upstairs (downstairs rooms share patio with room next door) and the BEST view of the hotel, can see straight out to the beach between palm trees. As many other reviews, and travelers we met on the beach mention, this hotel does not wake you up when asked for a wake up call. Because of this, we didn't get to do the snorkel tour and were not very happy. We also switched rooms into one of the private pool spots, I would recommend just choose room #5. My boyfriend got bed bugs in #13 and you could tell the room had been smoked in as it smelled of stale cigarettes. Regardless, the property is gorgeous, the food-not to mention the restaurant view-is insanely good, and Isla Mujeres was wonderful!

My husband and I stayed at Na Balam for our recent visit to Isla Mujeres, booked as a package though Orbitz.com. I was unsure what to expect after reading the reviews, but we were pleasantly surprised, the location was perfect, the beach was the best, the room was super quaint, we were on the second floor on the poolside, it was so beautiful and quiet. We did need to use mosquito spray in the evenings when we visited the outdoor lobby to message our friends at home, The only thing we would like to see would be to have wifi either in the rooms or in another spot on the poolside, like under the yoga hut. There was an iguana living in the palapa, but it did not bother us at all, we thought it was kinda cute :) We would certainly consider staying here again.

Na Balam is perfect for young people or people with children (not for seniors). OTher than that it has the best beach. Close to snorkeling site, close to a swing bar(Buhos). The service was great both at the lobby and the beach. One night we found a small lizard on the wall in our room which was on the second floor. Yes there are mosquitoes at the hotel, in the room and outside by the lobby(with wi-fi)....Overall it was great. Quiet and Peaceful...Not far from great cheap food. The restaurant is overpriced compared to other places in town..I would deffinately come back because of the beach and the lush grounds with LOTS of palm trees and sand....If you want luxury and are super spoiled...this place is not for you. Also you can't smoke on the balcony, but you can on the beach....I am 25 and I would deffinately come back for another relaxing vacation.

NaBalam is the perfect getaway for a quiet, stress free vacation. The hotel was clean, wi-fi in the lounge area by the check in desk and they have a book exchange. There are two sections for the hotel - poolside and beachside. The service at the front desk was great and the beach staff were very friendly. We had lunch on the beach several days and the food was very good. They have small safes in the room, modern fixtures in the bathroom and the rooms are very quiet. We were on the second floor and we saw our neighbors but did not hear them - a plus in my book. We felt we had good value for the price we paid and we would definitely stay at NaBalam again.

We have been to Isla Mujeres many times and have stayed at several of the hotels/condos on North Beach. This was our first stay at the NaBalam and it was truly wonderful! We traveled with a large group of couples. Each agreed they loved the NaBalam and would return again. Most of us had beach side rooms which were simple but very nice. The grounds are beautiful, lush, and very well maintained. The front desk staff was very accommodating with requests made from individuals within our group - always friendly, pleasant, and helpful! Gabriella (Sales Manager) was especially helpful going above and beyond to make sure our trip was special. Sure there were a few things that may not have been perfect but that is ok. The staff tried hard to resolve the minor mishaps that we did have and that is what really counts to us. I would agree with some of the previous reviews that the hotel could do some simple things to improve the overall guest experience (upgrade the mattresses & refrigerators in rooms as a standard). But the NaBalam is the perfect place to relax and experience all that Isla has to offer. The beach is amazing, the location is perfect, the ambience of the hotel is tranquil & beautiful, and the staff was friendly & attentive. We love Isla and the NaBalam is a new favorite of ours!

We loved this hotel on our Mexico trip - everything is kept simple and natural. The hotel beach is great and on one of the quieter areas of North Beach. We had a Master Suite (#13) w/a plunge pool which had a great view over a little bay. Short, the hotel was great, but service was lousy. Everyday we had to fight w/the beach personnel to put us an umbrella, the front desk staff was rather annoyed by our questions about the town and not willing to look anything up for us, the restaurant staff took its time to serve us or simply served half of the ordered breakfast because they run out of ingredients (they charged the full price though). This is quite annoying since their room prices in full season are pretty high. Summary - great and beautiful hotel perfect for an island escape, but don't expect too much friendliness from the staff.

Room Tip: Check for #13 - upgrade is definitley worth it..

This is NOT a big, bustling hotel/resort. This is a small, quiet spot that offers a peaceful and relaxing environment. The grounds are beautifully kept. The front desk service is welcoming and efficient and the rooms are comfortable but simple with all the basics. Beds are a bit on the hard side but I slept wonderfully with the ocean lullaby.
The hotel is divided into two areas - beach front and pool front. More breezes beach front and there is a beautiful garden area between the beach and the rooms so you do feel somewhat removed from the sunny action when you choose to be so. I suggest a 2nd floor room as they are a little less busy - not having to share a patio but enjoying a private balcony.
The pool front is very lovely but a bit more communal than beach. It is also the side where the morning yoga practices occur. ( treetop palapa yoga should NOT be missed if that is your thing - the perfect start to the day) Whatever side you are on the pool in wonderful. Usually empty, cool and refreshing after a hot, sandy day, surrounded by flowering bushes and immaculately kept. This is a a small, refreshing pool not a party hub.
The restaurant is good ( mexican slow) for breakfast but overpriced for dinner and with so many great restaurants a 10 minute stroll away why bother.
Location is undisputedly the BEST on the island being at the end of PLaya Norte and having beach all the way around the corner. Beach side service is very attentive and there is always plenty of chairs, beds and umbrellas.
If you are looking for a slow-down, easy-breathing vacation and can do without all the 'cancun 5-star extras' than you will love this hotel. Clean, friendly and proudly cared for.
Book early during holiday time as this is a small hotel.
