Our two dinners at Asia Caribe were delightful. Sushi is one of our favorites and we were not disappointed. Peter and Annalise are wonderful hosts. As an American, we are use to indications of hotness of food (scovil signs) so we were a little blown away by the spiciest of the Grilled Beef Salad. We will ask next year when we stop for dinner. Truly special when you need a change from Mexican food......

This attempt at Yucatecan - Thai fusion by the owners from Maine falls a bit short in some respects. We ate there twice on a recent trip to Isla Mujeres, and while the Thai beef salad was yummy and spot on with traditional Thai recipes, other dishes were, well, a bit strange. For example, I had chicken in yellow curry that was cloyingly sweet and thick. I'm not sure where the coconut milk was but it seemed to be replaced by corn starch. The tom yum soup wasn't bad - it had some of the tastes one would associate with tom yum soup - galangal, kefir lime - but somehow seemed to be missing lemongrass, any real acid, and salt. An interesting concept with obviously fresh ingredients, but the chef could benefit by a few Thai cooking classes.

Two people offered us some prok ribs while we were walking down this restaurant row. They wee Mainers from north of Bangor, Mine who had the good sense to get out for warmer climes. We promised to go back and we did. They had wonderful Tum Yum soup, great margaritas natural. The girlfriend had green curry vegetable dish, they have an extensive vegeterian menu and i opted for the fresh fillet. Coaxed into trying some cheese cake it was a creamy wonder. the place is reaonable and the food quite good. Though I didn't see them on Trip Advisor, I'd put them there and hope this does. Doubt our experience was a frak thing as the place filled up and turned over tables. Too bad the New England Patriots weren't that good.

Had dinner here last night, and it was very good. One person had the pecan encrusted grouper in tamarind sauce, and she thought she might have to lick the plate. The sauce was excellent, and the owner indicated that he does something special to rev it up. The chicken sate was great, and I loved the peanut dressing on the Thai salad. Grouper was also served with garlic and lime, and my husband thought it was great. Don't miss Asia Caribe,

Do not walk by without trying this restaurant. Took my husband"s parents there on their first night on Isla. Loved it!! My husband and I had the drunken noodles, mine with chicken his with shrimp, excellent flavors, crunchy vegetables and water chestnuts, and the noodles were so good. Hubby had the miso soup and he said it was the best miso he had ever had. Big pieces of seaweed in it. Parents both had the ginger shrimp and raved about them. Came with perfectly cooked rice and carrots. That's what I am going to have when we go back...because we will certainly be going back. Couldn't have desert because we were too full. Service was excellent, gentleman playing soft guitar was also excellent. The owner came by the table a couple of times to check on us and was very gracious and very nice. Craving those noodles already!!! Oh, they also have sushi, although Wednesday night, (when we were there) is the Sushi master's night off. Hubby is going back especially for that.
