“What a gem!”

We chose Casa el Pio after my fiance's sister went with her boyfriend in November and they recommended it highly. Last year on the island we stayed at an all inclusive beach front property, which was really nice, but we knew we wanted to try all the great restaurants on the island this time, and thought we'd try a small boutique hotel instead. Casa el Pio is easy to find, and close to the busiest parts of Hidalgo. What is nice, is that is is just past the square at the government building, where the touristy areas end, so we got to be minutes from the action, but had almost not street noise at night. It is about a 10 minute walk to the best beaches, but we didn't mind, considering the money we saved staying off the beach. Overall, the location was great and convenient. Jill greeted us when we arrived, and had been checking our flight, so she knew it was delayed. She was friendly and welcoming, and gave us a quick overview of the hotel and nearby restaurants.

I couldn't believe how much space we had for $72! We had a bedroom and a separate living area! Having a fridge was nice, so we could keep cold drinks on hand, and the beer and tequila that were in it when we arrived was a nice touch. I was glad to find a safe in the room to keep our valuables and passports without any worries. The decor was fresh and really nice with beautiful artwork throughout. Every day the maids would leave fresh towels on our bed with fun designs (a bird in a nest, kissing swans, etc). The bed felt a little firm, and our backs were a little sore the first morning, but we must have gotten used to it, because we were fine the rest of the week. The air conditioning worked very well, and we could adjust it ourselves.

It was a little embarrassing when we went to Jill one morning because we hadn't had hot water the first two days, only to find out that the labels on the faucets were backwards. I had tried both, but the hot water needed a few minutes to come on, so I must not have kept it on long enough. Ooops!! But once we had that sorted out, we had plenty of hot water! The locally made soap and shampoo was a nice touch, and a water cooler on the patio for guest use was convenient.

I would absolutely stay at Casa el Pio again, and would recommend it to anyone who was headed to the lovely Isla Mujeres!

Room Tip: We stayed in a ground floor room with a private patio. We didn't really use it, because there is...

I spent 4 nights solo in unit 2. I LOVED the location and felt very "at home" and safe, day & night. The room was lovely, cool & modern. My favourite times were mornings & evenings when the day trippers left. The people in the area were friendly and always smiled to say hello. Prices were good, I found some great food and I ate far too much! If I was to stay longer, I would have liked a tv and maybe a toaster oven, but for 4 nights, it was perfect.

We stayed in Room 4 for 3 nights. The rooms are bright, spacious, and tastefully decorated. They looked exactly like they're shown on the hotel's web site. Shower is great. The hotel is on Hidalgo, where all the shops and restaurants are. Yet it is just 2 minutes walk away from all the action so it is very quiet. Note that on maps it appears that Hidalgo goes "missing" for one block west of the hotel, but in reality it's a city square you can easily walk through to reach the pedestrian section of Hidalgo. The beach is about a 10-minute walk away, but it's fun walk along Hidalgo with all the nice shops.

We noticed Casa El Pio on our trip last January.I was drawn to the little bird chirping on the hotel sign.We have now visited Isla for the 4 th time in a year.El Pio provided nice touches like wonderful ,made on the island soap/shampoo.We had large beach towels provided daily. The clean simplicity of the room was very appealing. The location is great especially for those visiting for the first time.Everything is within walking distance.

Room Tip: We were in room 3,amazing view, wonderful ocean breeze ,outstanding view!

We loved our stay at Casa El Pio. The location is perfect- on the main street but at the end so it is quiet and peaceful. Our room was much bigger than we needed and had everything we needed and more. So nice that they give you big beach towels every day along with a beach bag. Very clean. Felt so safe. The only minor inconvenience was that they ask you to tell them what time you will arrive because they don't have someone there all the time for check-in. We were traveling around the peninsula before coming and we weren't sure what time we would get to Isla Mujeres. (We had to take care of things like returning our rental car and such- unpredictable). We arrived an hour before we predicted and I went to go find a phone I could use, but then no one answered the number I had been given (I later saw that I had been emailed 2 more phone numbers, but I had not been checking my email for a week because we were traveling). Luckily a nice resident of the island saw us waiting outside the hotel and called Jill for us and she came right away. Not a big deal, but maybe they could make a point to get the phone numbers to you ahead of time and tell you where to find a phone if you need it. Really great stay otherwise, we were not ready to leave!

Our first stay at this hotel. It has only 4 rooms, and is ultra-quiet. Everything is walkable from the hotel. It is clean and simple. Jill, the manager, is wonderfully helpful, and quite welcoming. We even became friendly with our 'hotel-mates', and went to dinner with them. We are already planning a return trip, and would stay again at 'Casa el Pio'!

Room Tip: Room 3 has the best ocean view. Room 1 has a veranda. Room 4 is the most private.

I cannot say enough good things about Casa El Pio. We stayed here for our honeymoon at the beginning of May. The rooms are spotlessly clean and relaxing with thoughful touches like local photographs, all crisp white sheets and linens, beach towels and totes, and a laundry line for your swimsuits and beach towels. Complimentary bottled water is provided in the courtyard, which is a major convenience. The live-in manager Jill had just taken over when we began our stay, and I agree with this other reviewers that she is an asset to the hotel, with local contacts and restaurant, bar, and activity recommendations galore. Another great asset to this hotel are the little guestbooks in each room. Make sure to take a moment to read yours when you arrive as they provide excellent tips on everything from the room (do keep shower drains covered as island plumbing can be a bit stinky. This is not Casa El Pio's fault.) to local activities. The location of Casa El Pio is absolutely perfect: near the ferry, market, and boardwalk, an easy walk to the lovely north beach, yet off the beaten path enough to be quiet and somewhat more authentic in feel than the ocean front options. Isla Mujeres is a beautiful place. Staying at Casa El Pio made our vacation perfect. I cannot wait to return and stay here again.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 3. Excellent size, views, and cross breeze. I imagine all of the rooms are perfect...
