“Very nice stay - excellent choice for staying on Isla Mujeres”
Reviewed July 16, 2011

Our four night stay at Casa el Pio was very nice indeed. The location is excellent - less that 5 minutes walk from the ferry terminal, and close to numerous bars, restaurants and Playa Norte. Also, the whole island is very safe and we never had any issues walking at night - just around the corner is a municipal plaza and basketball court, and often later in the evening there would be a game on with lots of locals watching, so lots of people about (but no noticeable noise).

We stayed in room 4 which is upstairs and lovely and spacious - with a bedroom and bathroom, and then a separate living room with a day bed (which is great for chilling out on). The rooms are simply furnished and decorated, but very clean and tidy when we arrived and you have beer and tequila waiting for you in the fridge.

The room is cleaned every day except Sunday (if you are leaving on Sunday, it's handy because there's no check ins, so you can check out later if you want to) and there is always drinking water available from a cooler next to the pool. The pools itself is small, but great for a quick dip if you arrive back hot from walking around.

Rooms also have a safe and A/C, which is important in the summer as it can be very hot. In the rooms there is also a guest book with others' experiences, and a book of recommendations from Casa which is really useful for choosing places to visit, and restaurants. Overall we had a lovely stay here - would definitely recommend it to others who are looking for somewhere unique to stay in Isla.

Room Tip: Whilst no actual sea views, room 4 is the only room which is not on route to any other room, meaning...

Believe the positive reviews of Casa El Pio. I did research on every property on Isla Mujeres and ended up booking a 3 night stay. We were a group of 3 and stayed in the private patio room. The room is two levels, one room with a bed and bathroom also contains a fridge and coffee maker. the second room has a bed and table and chairs. The patio is outside this room. the two rooms are open to each other through a entry way that you step down 3 steps to. The beds are comfortable and the room decor is simple but stylish..

The location is 2 blocks from the ferry dock, half a block to the caribbean side. The walk to the north beaches is about 4 blocks. All stores and restaurants are within walking distance.

Jill who is the resident manager will greet you, and have a beer and tequila shot ready for you in the fridge. Jill will fill you in on what is happening on the island and give restaurant recommendations.

This is a small property, 4 units and you get to know the other guests. We had a great time talking with others and getting and giving trip hints.

We are all seasoned travelers and found this to be one of the best properties we have ever stayed at. It is perfect for a low key non pampered independent traveler.

We had a great time staying at Casa el Pio on Isla Mujeres. It's very centrally located and our room (#3) had a great view on the Caribbean Sea. There are only 4 rooms available so it was very quiet and peaceful. The whole place has recently been tastefully rennovated and is immaculately clean. Our room was beautiful and spacious. The cleaning staff is very friendly and Jill was very helpful. There are no TV's in the rooms which for us was a blessing, but there is a well-stocked library with lots of books in English. We definitely recommend Casa el Pio to anyone looking for a comfortable and quiet place to stay.

Room Tip: The upstairs rooms are brighter and breezier.

this 4 room friendly boutique hotel filled my memories w warm, inspiring moments of my vacation! located on the tip of downtown it was such a great location to walk into town or off the seawall or as a point to start exploring down the island.
-we stayed here w another couple and we all felt safe, secure, and very hospitable staying at this rustic hotel. simple, yes, but the intimate space of 4 rooms, the clean look, unsophisticated blend of white, blue, green, and natural colors is what defined the decor and feel of this building. anything more would have taken away.
-we all felt welcome and right at home w the staff and hospitality. Jill was the manager on duty and she was very helpful and accommodating.
-we stayed in the private patio room and our friends had the courtyard room. absolutely charming! everything in each of the rooms was clean and well kept. 10 out of 10 stars for the Housekeeping service. it was spot on w the towels and upkeep.
-since the courtyard is pretty much shared by the whole hotel, you will encounter everyone that is staying here, so understand that you can be as welcoming to the other guests or be as non confrontational as you want, but just be courteous and say a hello if thats what you choose.
For the price, i dont think you can beat this angel of a place. in my opinion, a small well kept boutique like this anywhere else would be 2x to 3x as much. i developed a certain repoire to Casa El pio that is only begging me to come back!

Room Tip: book early! this diamond hotel books pretty fast!

We just spent 2 wonderful nights at Casa El Pio after a fiasco 3 days else where on the island. They were personable, friendly and very informative. The location and creature comforts were superb! Very helpful (they have a list of recommendations and insider tips for what to do, where to eat, etc. and a guests' book with some equally great suggestions.) We booked #3 as we heard it was the best - totally true. Upstairs and overlooking the water, quiet, spacious with all the extras (great bed, beach towels rolled a carry bag, a few drinks in the frig, nice toiletries, clothesline, coffee maker and it smelled great. (we were told to leave the rubber plugs in both the sink and the shower which we did and had no problem. The place is spotlessly clean from top to bottom.
Great little dunking pool, too. Fabulous spa around the corner (Luz) and the management made the appointment for me as I did not have a phone (the spa is open mostly by appointment). Awesome deep cleansing facial with collagen for ~ $32 - 1 1/2 hrs! Wow! No hair dryer but they said it did not matter with the humidity which was totally correct....just let it go! They could use some light blocking curtains but I brought a sleep mask which did the trick for me. The location is wonderful - on the edge of everything but so quiet.

Room Tip: No WI-FI in #3 Go by the pool.

I just returned from 6 nights at Casa El Pio and it was PERFECT. I received a gracious and informative welcome from Sarah Jane, and she and Robert were full of great recommendations for my stay. The little touches are not lost on these hosts. There were two cervezas and two shots of tequila waiting in my fridge after a long day of travel. The rooms were very clean and it was oh so quiet. I spent many hours sitting on the seawall, just up the street, watching and listening to the waves crash on the rocks while the frigates soared overhead. I was happy to be out of the busy part of town, but it was right down the street when I needed it. I stayed in room #1 and the sitting room and patio were both great additional spaces.

CAsa El Pio is a hidden jewel! We stayed a total of 14 nights and experienced Room 3 and Room #1. OUr preference is Room #3 upstairs with an ocean view but both rooms were enjoyable. They are immaculate, cleaned daily except Sunday and in the heart of the community but removed from the busyness of Hidalgo St.
Thankfully, it is a refereshing change from a 5 star resort full of people. If you want to experience the community of Isla, this is a perfect place to call "home".
