I have hopped from Marina to Marina from Monteray Bay to Corpus Christi by way of the Panama Canal. I have been burnt at some and helped at others. Sometimes you tie up and immediately you feel like your being sized up for how much they are going to be able to take you for, others are truly trying to be helpful while making a living. This is the later plus much more...
We came into the channel between Isla and Cancun and got nailed by a squall the depth soundings were not matching with the charts we had and were getting shallower. We called for Port Authority for guidence in Isla and were answered by the EL Milagro staff. Who jumped in their Panga and guided us in.
We put our yellow quarantine flag up and they asked us very nicely to put it down... we will deal with it Manana. Today is National Marina day and it is time to party. I was there when "Jenny824" boyfriend came in. If it were not for the crew at El Milagro he would have run onto a reef they did save his bacon.
He needed more charts and about two more crew members.
About three time a week they seem to have a fish BBQ and they know how to do it right. Sometimes they pass around the hat and ask for 150 pesos a person other times someone brings in a fish and they just cook it up. This is for all Yachtistas and folks who are staying in the Hotel (which is where I would stay if I were there). I talked to the owner Eric a few times on the phone seemed like a nice fellow but it is the four J's Jaimie, Julio, Juan and Jose also known as "Rock" that seem to be the soul of the place. If you need anything done to your boat they can get it done, They know everyone on the Island. I would be a wrong not to mention Rosa who does Laundry and cleans so well or Inga who balances the books on the weekends. If you are going down you might butter their biscuits a little by getting them some nice flip flops Jaimie is 9 "Rock " is 9 Julio 11 and Juan is 7.
It's hard to find such a great staff as Eric has... I plan to back and apply for a job at El Milagro as you can tell I did really enjoy my stay there. if you want more info please write me at firstname.lastname@example.org Westsail 43 S/V Rag Tag Circus
