We got the luxurious feeling that we paid for: Clean room, large bed, a very service minded concierge, soft beach towels, great breakfast. Fenced in beach area for the hotel's guests with drinks, lunch and clean lavatories avaliable. Also lovely massage for a decent price at the hotel or at the beach :)

However: If you're looking for the authentic Mexican feeling, this might not be the right hotel to stay at. Quite formal athmosphere, and food, behaviour, etc. was adjusted to the many American tourist's taste, we think.

But authentic Isla Mujeres everyday life right next door: Our (sea view) room was on the south side of the hotel - right next to a primary school, starting with morning prayers (or something) on loudspeakers in the school yard every morning at 7.00 am..

A couple of things to point out that we felt were misleading about the hotel. First of all, this is not an "adult only" property as it advertises itself to be. There were many families there with small children and since we were there on an anniversary trip, we really wanted to be around adults only. Also, if you do the all-inclusive be aware that you will only be served draft beer ( Corona). I don't like draft beer at all so this was not appreciated. Also, you cannot order botttle of wine thru room service. This was annoying when we wanted to enjoy the hot tub on a very cloudy day. You may order glasses of wine but the service was slow and took forever to arrive.
I would probably not choose to do the all-inclusive if we went again because I felt that the food was limited and overall average. There are many other restaurants on the island to try and all that we tried were good. Jax (next to the hotel) has good burgers and conch fritters as well as lots of other options. We enjoyed the food there after having our fill of Mexican dishes
Overall, we were pleased with our room and the service of all the staff. Luis and Jacob were very attentive on the beach each day and always kept our glasses filled.
We enjoyed our trip but would've enjoyed it more if we'd had better weather- it was cloudy or rainy every day. Do get a golf cart and explore the island. It is worth seeing and you will need the cart if you want to get to the opposite end of the island.

My wife and me enjoyed this hotel a lot. We spent a week in the Privilege Aluxes and it was fabulous. You wont find a better beach on the island, our room with sea view was excellent and the service is great. The pool and its bar was a perfect place to relax- but topped by the beach. There are 3 restaurants at the hotel, all are fantastic. I say it like Arnold..

We were just at Privilege in July. We have been coming to Isla for years and have stayed at Ixchel and Nautibeach, among other hotels.

What we liked about Privilege:

The room is large and everything is new.

The maid kept the room spotless.

The balcony area is large and had a whirlpool.

The grounds are nice and well kept.

I liked the pool area

The beach area is nice and service was usually prompt. The best part of the beach area is it is roped off and the vendors do not come inside the ropes.

The beach bar is nice and a good place to have a late night drink and listen to the band.

The location is great. The resort is located adjacent to downtown.

We had free breakfast with the room. We opted to skip the all inclusive option because the food in Isla is so good and also inexpensive. I liked the breakfast buffet. They had a chef on duty that would prepare eggs or an omelet and there were lots of other options for breakfast.

The staff was always professional and helpful.

The not so good:

No one was ever at the towel desk in the evening.

There is only one water spigot for washing the sand off your feet when returning from the beach.

Most of the time we had to insert the key card into the door three times to get it to open.

My take on the resort:

The design of the resort is modern which does not fit the feel of the island. The architect/designer that planned the resort did not do a good job:

The sliding glass doors to the balcony only have handles on the inside so if you shut the door when you walk onto the balcony you have to try to pry it open with your fingertips.

The unit has a kitchen with but the only refrigerator is a sealed mini bar refrigeration. There is a stove to to cook but there isn't a pot, pan, dish or fork to be found.

There is only one towel hook in the bathroom to hang a wet towel on. There were two of us in the room so I had to squeeze my towel next to the hand towels.

The closet in the bedroom had unusable shelves near the ceiling.

Every time I sat on the white leather couch in the living room the cushions would fall over.

Would we go back. Yes! Any issues that we found with the room or resort were minor and it is a better bang for your buck than Ixchel.

Although we had some remarks and made that clear to the manager, we ones again had a great time in Aluxes.
The location, breakfast and rooms are excellent. Some management issues are not, but after talking to the manager of the hotel, things were cleared. We left Aluxes with a good feeling, and... we'll be back!

Yeah hotel is new and looks nice. But I define 5 Star with the following. 1.Bed and sheets (sucked) 2. Great Food (sucked) 3. Good Staff (they knew the word No and we dont have it very good) 4. Quality (got food poisoning from old chips in fridge)

do yourself a favour and just stay in cancun and do a half day tour in isla mujeres.......

To start with I should say that the staff where mostly friendly and helpful, the girl on reception Roxanna (I think that how she spelt it) was wonderful to deal with and Jesus also.

The hotel itself was as the title says, nothing special, Decent size rooms and bathroom, We were in the Superior w/ hot tub. The views were awful from Block 1, see attached photo's. If your planning a romantic evening on your balcanoy and a dip in your hot tub Dont expect any type of privacy!!! You will be overlooked from nearly every angel.

The breakfasts were lovely, nice selection of foods and all fresh. The dining room was laid out well too, If you sit near the windows overlooking the beach make sure to check your table for little bugs before you sit down.

The attached thai/Oriental restaurant doesnt have a wide selection to choose from and the food portions are tiny, I had the mixed satay and you get 2 pieces of chicken, pork, shrimp and beef on skewers. I have seen more meat on a cocktail sausage at the end of a tootpick before. I was still hungry when we left.

The beach cafe bar has live music nearly every night and all i can say is that its loud and the music is awful, the amount of classic songs that were killed by that band was shocking, I should have called the cops to report some murders!!!

If you do stay at this hotel here are some tips i would give from my experience:

1. Every night make sure not to forget to put the do not disturb sign on your door or at 8.45 housekeeping will be knocking to clean your room.

2. If your room has a conecting door to the room next to you then make sure its locked!! We had the do not disturb sign on our door and a guy walks in thru the connecting door while i'm lying on the bed. Also seen the handle being tried 3 more time during my stay.

3. Use the free safe, dont get lazy, See point 2!!!!!!

4. As another user here said, the stairway up and down to your room can be very noisy both in the morning and evenings.

5. The last ferry from Puerto Jueraz to the Island is 11.30pm, if you miss it hard luck, the next one is 6.30am. Also traffic around the clubs is very heavy at night time so give yourself lots of time to get back to the ferry. An hour at least.

6. The bar across the road "Jakks" does lovely well priced food the drink is cheap too. A buckect of corona was 60peso. that 6 USD or 4 Euro for 5 bottles. But it closes early like most of the bars on the island.

7. Take a trip to the hotel zone and see how your 5stars compare to the 5 stars in there, dont be shy, most of the hotels have sports bars and restaurants open to the public.

So overall it was a decent hotel but with nothing amazing or special that makes it stand out. There is no major flaws with the hotel but I wouldnt give it 5 stars,
