Okay, I'll admit, I tend to avoid popular, non-indigenous fare when I vacation. It's probably a combination of hunger for cuisine that's native to the area, preference for spots favored by locals and general skepticism that glowing reviews aren't just based on tourists' familiarity with the type of food. I don't want lobster when in Omaha and I don't go to Chesapeake Bay for chicken fingers, no matter how many reviews rave about them.
It was a pretty dead-hot night and I'd read in a forum that Rolandi's had A/C, so we figured that even if the food was mediocre, we'd at least be cool. The appetizer and two pizzas we had were quite good, not mind-blowing, but absolutely respectable. The calamari & zucchini app was perfectly (lightly) battered and the pizzas were slightly larger than personal size with a medium-thick crust & very good cheese & toppings (the chorizo & jalapeno was my favorite). Service was attentive & not pushy and we got to watch ESPN Deportes while in the cool of the tiled & air-conditioned dining room.
So this place won me over and on our next trip to Isla we'll surely go for pizza on a hot night.
