“Absolutely beautiful Resort and gorgeous beaches!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2009

We just returned from the Occidental Grand Cozumel and had the time of our lives. We had a group of 12 (10 adults and 2 children) and everyone had a great time. We stayed in the Royal Club for 10 days. Our rooms were very nice and the service we received from all staff was above and beyond. Nelly was fantastic as our concierge and Martine and all of the waiters at the Royal Club Restaurant were fantastic. Francisco was our Activities Coordinator. Suzanne at the activity pool was lots of fun too! We participated in Volleyball and water aerobics each day. Suzanne was also great with the kids for Kids Club.
We had absolutely no complaints about the food or drinks. All restaurants and both buffets had great food and such a variety. The late night pizza was pretty good too.

You have try Alberto's Seafood right next door to the Resort. We walked down the beach and had the best fish tacos and margaritas.
A couple of days we rented Jeeps and drove around the Island. The beaches are so beautiful and the snorkeling was great.
This vacation was worth every peso. We experienced so many things - snorkeling and swimming with turtles and barracudas, lobster dinner on a pirate ship, crocodiles at the eco park, a visit to the oldest Mayan town on Cozumel, beautiful lighthouses, a tropical thunder storm, relaxing on white powder beaches, gorgeous sunsets, massages and body wraps at the Spa, food, drinks and great memories with family and friends.
We will definately be returning in the very near future.

The rooms at the Occidental Grand Cozumel are stunning, especially those in the Royal Club Luxury. Huge rooms, with ocean view, very attentive service from Concierge to room service, the food is amazing. Gorgeous tropical property that is huge. Only draw back is that rooms are a bit far from the beach – the property abuts the beach but there is a long bridge that crosses a nature area. Love this hotel and we will be back!

Just came back from the Occidental Grand, stayed May 16th through 23rd. This is about our 10th time to this resort and needless to say we love it. If you are worried about the swine flu, don't be. The island of Cozumel is Swine flu free and they are being as proactive as they can be to keep it that way. When you enter the airport after deplaning they check your temperature (laser in your ear) to make sure no one is coming in sick, as well as giving you information on the swine flu. When you leave the island they check your temp again to make sure no one got sick while on the island. So if you are worried about the swine flu I suggest you go to Cozumel. You are probably closer to the flu wherever you live in the states than you would be on the island. Back to the resort, It is a beautifully, lush, tropical resort. The rooms are big with stone floors, art on the walls, nice furniture, and nice colors. Not your typical stark room. The bathrooms are large and the shower is very large. The rooms are also very clean. The resort is one of the few on the island with a real beach and you can walk out into the ocean without cutting your feet on coral. The food is very good at the resort in all of the restaurants as well as the buffet. If you stay in the Royal Club you have access to a private pool and restaurant which the food and service is great. The last thing and what we think sets this resort apart is the service. We have been going to this resort since 2003 and the core staff has not turned over. They are attentive to your every need. To sum it up don't worry about the swine flu, go to this great island and stay at this jewel of a resort. You won't regret it you may even become addicted like we have!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Royal club the week of April 17th to the 24th and have no complaints. This was our first vacation together and had the time of our lives. The resort is definitely a couples type of resort though, not a party place. If you are looking to relax and be with someone you love I would certainly suggest this resort.

We never did see the rooms in the rest of the OGC but the Royal club area/rooms were fantastic. The bathrooms are beautiful with huge showers, tons of hot water and great water pressure. The beds are firm but still very comfortable. Clean, clean, clean! You get new towel art each day and the maids do a great job. I've read these complaints about clothes not drying and always being damp... well I'm pretty sure that's due to the fab air conditioning in the rooms. Put your swim suits outside and they'll be dry by the morning!!! The Royal Clubs private pool in very convenient and usually there is a waitress that will come by and ask you if you would like drinks. I suggest the PINA COLADA's and the DIRTY MONKEY's at this resort!!! MMM These are the best drinks ever!! The Royal club also has it's own restaurant inside its area. The food here is amazing. I had the fillet minion and wow was it good. You need reservations for it but you just have to run up to the reception desk for the Royal club and book which is right beside it.

The grounds at OGC are truly beautiful. It is a lot of vegetation that is very well maintained. You will hear birds singing all day (especially in the morning and night) It's like music. There's lots of iguana's on the resort, large and small. A few hang out by the quiet pool, but you will see them pop out from all over. We also saw turtles, pelicans and frogs. Hardly any bugs at all. One night I got bit by a few misquotes but it was entirely my fault as I put perfume on.

We did the 3 reef snorkeling excursion. Well worth the money. I think it was $45 a person extra. Wow, what a thrill. Doing this is a must if you are not a pro diver. This was my first time snorkeling and I am hooked. Snorkeling just off the beach is awesome too. You have to make it out to the edge of the buoys though. We were lucky enough to see Billy the barracuda ..wow!! Massive schools of fish and more. At the edge of the beach just as you put your feet in, if you stand for a few minutes there are fish that will swim right up to you. We thru in some bread crumbs and they just went crazy. If you are not afraid of fish touching you and rubbing against your legs, you have to try this one day that you are just lounging on the beach!

Another extra I did was the massage on the beach. This was awesome. Just head up tot he spa and make a reservation. TIP: Do it early in the week before you get burned! The sun down there is HOT HOT HOT!!!!

Also went on the Island tour for $45.00 p.p. People we met also rented a jeep and drove around the island. You have to get to the other side to see the ocean view. It's different than the resort beach front. We were advised not to swim in there though. The water was rough but you just have to see it!!!!!!

All of the restaurants were great. People need to remember that the food is going to be different from whatever you are used to. The only food complaint I have is the eggs from any restaurant. The yolks taste like soap. I think it's just eggs from Mexico though. The drinks are great and they don't sting on the liquor!!!

The beach at the OGC is spectacular. I recommend walking up and down. One way heads to the other resorts. The other heads to Albertos. We ate here our last night and had the best lobster we have ever had. Spent a few bucks but had a lobster that was the biggest thing we had ever seen on a single plate. Watched the sunset and said goodbye to Cozumel. What a great way to end the best vacation.

Having read the various reviews of this hotel prior to my holiday I remained open minded as they are generally mixed with the common theme of disapproval being directed at the quality of the food - which I have to agree is particularly poor. The pizza restaurant is maybe the biggest dissapointment, it has a wonderful rooftop postion, state of the art pizza ovens but serves the worst pizza known to man. The buffet is lunch dressed up as diner and whilst the speciality restaurants try very hard the food just doesnt cut it. I also have to say at this point that with all fully inclusives you generally compromise on the quality of food , although I have to say I have experienced much better. The kids club/entertainments team were wonderful both Susanna and Jonwadeo (no idea how to spell his name) were hugely entertaining and worked so hard entertaining both the kids and adults alike, they really made our stay. I have two issues with the hotel, firstly the time share selling which I thought quite vulgar and menacing, I think the hotel should decide whether it is a hotel first and foremost and if so recognise that this sort of selling has no place at a "5 star hotel" and I use that rating loosely! Secondly the spiders, huge and at home in the reception of the hotel which I have to say did unnerve me throughout my stay, and yes I do understand when staying in a tropical location you have to expect these sort of insects but really tarantulas working around the hotel reception area - NO its all wrong!

Overall its a wonderful hotel in a lovely setting, the food isnt up to much but you can usually find something edible, although everything is overcooked and usually cold, but on the upside with the exception of the reception staff who are rude, staff are so accomodating, kids will love Susanna and Jonwadeo will entertain all. But as others have said if you want 4/5 star food quality dont do all inclusive as with everything in life you get what you pay for. To my amercian friends (lake como) it was a pleasure to meet you all Harrys(twice gold medal winner) Mum!

We stayed at the Occidental Grand from March 20 to 27. After reading the reviews, we weren't too sure what to expect.. What a wonderful place! Not a huge, sprawling resort, but just big enough. The Royal Club is WELL worth the extra upgrade: a separate very civilized check-in, free internet, beach towels in your room each day (rather than getting them at the pool hut which only opens at 8AM), AND the shortest walk to the beach! The Royal Club also has its own pool and restaurant (for breakfast and lunch. Dinner there requires reservations) so you feel very special.
We were diving much of the week and didn't use the diving facility attached to the hotel, but another one, "Blue Magic", which to do it again we would not use and I would not fully endorse.
We also went deep sea fishing with " Cozumel Off Shore", who were excellent and I would recommend as we caught a lot of fish, while the other boats did not.
The food at the resort was fine. The restaurant at the Royal Club served wonderful dinners. The main buffet was just FINE: tons of selection at each meal. The only mediocre food was at the smaller restaurants.
The disco was a great place for the teenagers to meet up.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel and grounds are very well tended. It's a terrific place.
