This place sucks the big one. Whatever you do, do not go to the free gifts, tickets, whatever they offer for free 90 minute presentation. This presentation can take hours. Stay away from these people trying to get u to buy into their vacation club. It is a total rip off. You can book your own vacations for way less. They use strong armed tactics. Don't fall for their lies. Before u even book this place, look at the reviews and how many people have fallen for this vacation package and how sorry they are now. Stay away from their free drinks. Don't even Go. Not just one salesman attacks you but four or five. The place is ordinary and an $18 dollar one way to were the action is, downtown, all the shops, Jimmy Buffet Restaurant, all the restaurants and-all the fun. Their food is awful, same with the drinks and the beds r hard.

We are just wrapping up a 4 night stay at the Royal Club and it has been a delightful vacation! The weather has not cooperated (rainy) and this has led to some flooding and general waterlogged facilities but we can roll with that pretty easily.

We came here to dive and the onsite dive shop and distance to the dock cannot be beat. It is just really easy. I have reviewed Dive Palancar separately so I will just note here that they are great.

The Royal Club amenities are nice but I can argue that the additional price is not worth the extra cost. I sat at the club pool once and ate at the club restaurant twice. But we could easily have been happy with the main resorts amenities just as well.

The buffet was delicious for breakfast (made to order omelets were great) and the beach club for delicious was convenient for in between dives. All of the a la carte restaurants were very good but Los Olivos was our favorite- Laura is an absolute superstar and took the best care of us!

The club concierge was hit or miss- Nelly was super, Ricardo not so much. It would be nice if it appeared he gave a s?%* about the job he was doing- I never got that impression. Unfortunately he was who we interacted with the most.

We will definitely return here to dive and staying at the Grand Occidental would be a no-brainer.

We have just returned from our seventh consecutive trip to the Occidental Grand Cozumel and this is our second stay at the Royal Club. The staff at the Occidental are outstanding and have always gone above and beyond to make are stays enjoyable. It is a joy to see the same staff members at the Occidental year after year. The food and service at the RC restaurant was excellent. The daily breakfast is severed to order with fast service to allow us to easily make our scheduled early morning dive trips. We enjoyed Los Olivos and the Sonora Grill as well during our stay. The three restaurants provided a great variety in menu choices. Lunches were at the Beach Club and the La Posada where the buffets menu changed daily but always included a great and abundant choices. We found the soups to be outstanding. I am embarrassed to report that I have gained 5 pounds during our week stray.
The ground of the resort have never been prettier. We saw work crews quieting performing maintenance to the resort rooms daily during our stay. This diligence to upkeep highlights why the rooms have always been in such good repair. We enjoyed four days of diving on this trip and the ease of access to the reefs as always been a great influence on our continued choice to stay at the Occidental Grand.

This hotel has the most wonderful dive shop a few feet from the beach restaurant with the most experienced, friendly, polite employees. Best prices we found for the scuba trips we needed.
We enlisted the personal help of Mateo to be our guide for our two trips last week and sure had the most enjoyable time! The Royal CLub upgrade was a wise choice as we had our own private restaurant for the five days we stayed. The menu didn't change while we were there, but the food was great and the presentation was exceptional! We asked for Mexican coffee and got such a fiery show! The buffet restaurant was mediocre, and left a bit to be desired. But, the lobby bar and the beach bar were more than adequate, and the bartenders were always wearing a smile and willing to please. Housekeeping was exceptional and prompt. We had more than enough clean towels each day and clean sheets daily as well. Lovely 'towel creations' on the bed each afternoon. Cute. We chose this hotel for the opportunity to scuba dive and snorkel and could do both from the beach if we wanted to. The water was very clear and the snorkeling was great. Good fish and stingray activity in the seaweed beds to entertain us. The was was very smooth and when we went out in the dive boats, the sea was lovely. No choppy wave activity. Realizing that this is their low season, we didn't find anything missing. The pools were clean and well maintained and the grounds were kept meticulously in spite of the 40-50% capacity. We would go again!

Room Tip: By all means, upgrade to the Royal Club. Might be the only place for free internet connection and b...

We had another great trip to Cozumel and to the Occidental Grand. The food and service was great and the price was excellent. The food in the Royal Club restaurant was outstanding and the service was friendly and good. The Royal Club concierge provided friendly and helpful service. If I needed any help on reservations or calling local dive shops they were happy to make the call. The property is secluded and quiet with lush gardens. The Occidental Grand has a beautify beach and the ocean is easy to swim and snorkel in. Several of the other hotels that we have stayed at on Cozumel have beaches that can be rocky and harder to get into the Ocean or have stronger currents for swimming in. The beach has lots of Palapas to hang out under. The rooms are nice and clean and most important the A/C works! It is a beautify jungle atmosphere in the walk ways. When we go in Sept and October the hotel has a much lower occupancy if you don't mind occasional rain. Make reservations at the Mediterranean Restaurant and Steak House Restaurant right when you get there. If you are a diver dive w/ Aldora Divers. They dive w/ Steel 120 tanks and have fast boats. The resort is at the south side of the island near all of the best dive spots which are only 10 to 15 minutes away. The down town is about 15-20 minutes away by Cab.

Room Tip: There is no elevator, so if you don't want to go up stairs book a 1st or 2nd floor. The 3rd fl...

Great place to stay in Cozumel. Service is top notch and meets all your need if you are a friendly traveler. High maintenance travels go somewhere else because we do not want you, even though your needs will be met from the staff. Scuba travelers will love the resort because of the dock on the beach of the resort. Looking forward to our next trip there.

First, I would like to say that we met so many great people on this trip. We had lots of fun with all our new friends. Now I can start on a true review of the property....

I am so glad that we upgraded to the Royal Club. It was well worth the additional charge. Nellie and Carolina were always so nice and helpful. The young man who worked for them on a couple of days was not helpful at all -- I asked him about getting some Pinor Noir wine in the Royal Club Restaurant for dinner -- his answer to me was "go to town and buy what you want". Needles to say, Ricardo was not my favorite person. The restaurant at the RC was great. We ate the majority of our meals there. The food was good and the service was superb!!!

As far as the general hotel, there were lots of little things that could be done to make this hotel much better. The grounds are kept very nicely but the maintenance on the pool and the lounge chairs at the pool could be much better.

Since the hotel was at 30% occupancy while we were there, they kept shutting down lots of things... The pool bar closed on Tuesday or Wednesday and did not open while we were there. The restaurants were rotating being open/closed. Hard to remember where you could eat. The salad bar at Los Olivos needs to be monitored!!! One night we watched a large family contaminate everything on the salad bar by touching things with their hands, using the same plate over and over, and returning items from their plate to the salad bar. We were not the only ones who noticed...it was gross!!! The employees in the buffet restaurant do not seem to be very happy. We only ate there once but it was enough.... When I requested a soup spoon, the waiter returned with a small plastic ice cream spoon. I tried to explain I was eating soup, he shrugged his shoulders and left. I am sure there is a language barrier, but when you have hot soup, you con't want to eat it with a tiny, plastic spoon. They ran out of food even though there were not many people at the resort. Unacceptable!!!

The rooms at the Royal Club are nice but I did not see the other rooms, so I am not sure if they are the same as the Occidental Grand Rooms. I do think they need to look at the towels they are giving their guest to use in the RC. They need to be nice, fresh towels that are not showing such wear and tear....

Lots of people complain about the pressure from the Time Share people. We did not have a problem with this at all. At the very beginning, we indicated we were not interested and they really did not bother us again.

All in all, it is a good place to visit but they could make a few changes and make it much better!!!
