Owner description: The most wonderful thing about Playa Palancar is that it feels like a private beach. It is quieter than most beaches in Cozumel and presents both a great diversity of activities and a peaceful environment. Order a Margarita in one of the beach bars. The seafood here is fabulous. Try the local specialties: the Ceviche, a seafood dish marinated in citrus juice with chili, and the fillet with the garlic sauce, a grilled fish with garlic. When you're in the mood for a little activity, rent a snorkel gear and swim from the beach, or take a snorkeling tour at a distance from the nearby reefs or "el cielo" beach On the beach there is a wide variety of water activities available, such as kayaking by the sea, Paddle board or take a parachute tour.

We rented a car and drove ourselves to Playa Palancar for a day. This was very easy to find - the signage is great.

They have the necessities - bar, food, bathrooms, small gift stand. We didn’t eat there, but did get some drinks.

They have a number of tables/chairs set up along the sand for people’s use. The day that we were there they weren’t busy so we had our pick of places to hang out.

We got there about 9:30 in the morning and immediately inquired about the snorkel trip. They said there was a 10:00 boat that was going out so we signed up. It was $30 pp. It ended up that we were the only two people on the snorkel trip, along with our guide Luis. This was fabulous! We did Colombia & Palancar and saw lots - a number of fish, stingray, spotted eagle ray, turtles. It was definitely worth it if you like to snorkel.

We will definitely return here - primarily to do the snorkel trip again.

We went to Playa Palancar while on a cruise excursion. It was heaven--beautiful beach, delicious food, and no crowds. I felt like I was on my own private beach. There were a few other people there, but it was so low-key. Our afternoon there was one of our favorite memories of our trip.

We discovered Palancar on a day trip to Cozumel in March. The other clubs north of Palancar seemed to be overrun with the spring break and cruise crowds. We were about to give upon finding a quiet restaurant on the beach when we finally came across Palancar. They had a few hammocks, plenty of lounge chairs and tables in both the shade and the sun, beautiful beach, and a great seaside masseuse. The water was really choppy the day we visited so we didn't get a chance to snorkel, but we were content to sit on the beach and sip on drinks straight out of fresh coconuts. The food was also surprisingly good. We only wished that we had found this place earlier in the day and had more time to hang out there.

We visited Playa Palancar after a recommendation from someone at the port. We were looking for someplace to snorkle from the shore and some activities for the kids. We had a nice time - the water and beach were beautiful and the staff were very friendly. We were a party of 4 and I think we really were overcharged to get here and get in. The guy at the docks "booked" us into the cab, for $25 per person, including the ride out to the beach, admission, snorkeling equipment and kayaking (plus lounge chairs) for approximately 3 hours. I think we may have done better walking a bit away from the port and taking a cab from there. That being said, we enjoyed ourselves. The ceviche was quite tasty as were the nachos. Of course the cold cervezas were terrific.

The snorkeling was okay - snorkeling that close to the shore really limits the types of fish. The reef is largely covered with sand, and not a thriving reef. From what I understand, you really need to go off shore to see the beauty of the reef. My kids (age 9 and 11) enjoyed snorkeling and paddling around the roped off area. I even got a nice massage on the beach, which was very enjoyable.

The beach wasn't crowded at all. That was the best part. Nice for families with young kids.

We went here for a morning to check it out. The weather wasn't the greatest, so we didn't bother to try the snorkeling. We did like the beach area, and the atmosphere. Good music, good energy to the place. But the best part by far was the food. The fish tacos were incredible--so fresh! Make sure if you stop here to go for the fish tacos. You won't be disapppointed!
