“best part of our trip”
Reviewed March 13, 2010

We discovered Palancar on a day trip to Cozumel in March. The other clubs north of Palancar seemed to be overrun with the spring break and cruise crowds. We were about to give upon finding a quiet restaurant on the beach when we finally came across Palancar. They had a few hammocks, plenty of lounge chairs and tables in both the shade and the sun, beautiful beach, and a great seaside masseuse. The water was really choppy the day we visited so we didn't get a chance to snorkel, but we were content to sit on the beach and sip on drinks straight out of fresh coconuts. The food was also surprisingly good. We only wished that we had found this place earlier in the day and had more time to hang out there.

“No crowds, snorkeling and yummy ceviche”
Reviewed March 7, 2010

We visited Playa Palancar after a recommendation from someone at the port. We were looking for someplace to snorkle from the shore and some activities for the kids. We had a nice time - the water and beach were beautiful and the staff were very friendly. We were a party of 4 and I think we really were overcharged to get here and get in. The guy at the docks "booked" us into the cab, for $25 per person, including the ride out to the beach, admission, snorkeling equipment and kayaking (plus lounge chairs) for approximately 3 hours. I think we may have done better walking a bit away from the port and taking a cab from there. That being said, we enjoyed ourselves. The ceviche was quite tasty as were the nachos. Of course the cold cervezas were terrific.

The snorkeling was okay - snorkeling that close to the shore really limits the types of fish. The reef is largely covered with sand, and not a thriving reef. From what I understand, you really need to go off shore to see the beauty of the reef. My kids (age 9 and 11) enjoyed snorkeling and paddling around the roped off area. I even got a nice massage on the beach, which was very enjoyable.

The beach wasn't crowded at all. That was the best part. Nice for families with young kids.

“nice beach area, fantastic fish tacos”
Reviewed March 5, 2010

We went here for a morning to check it out. The weather wasn't the greatest, so we didn't bother to try the snorkeling. We did like the beach area, and the atmosphere. Good music, good energy to the place. But the best part by far was the food. The fish tacos were incredible--so fresh! Make sure if you stop here to go for the fish tacos. You won't be disapppointed!

“the jury is still out”
Reviewed December 23, 2009

Our favorite thing to do on our trips to Cozumel is to relax on the beach in a hammock with a good book. We are not people that like to run around and do a bunch of tourist-centric activities. With that said, first time we came to the island, we fell in love with Playa Palancar because it was just that: a beautiful spot to relax. On our 3 subsequent trips things started changing. Apparently the cruise crowd has discovered this beach club. So, we’ve had issues with too many people and too many people with obnoxious kids (not our thing) using the hammocks as a play ground. Now they’ve taken out the hammock area all together and are putting a swimming pool in. We are NOT looking forward to that. I get that it’s a business decision but it turns people like us off. We also find that short of one or two waiters whom we like very much, others are somewhat indifferent and borderline rude. Their goal seems to be for you to eat and drink and get out, so they can make the most money. I don’t think loungers like ourselves are too popular. That all aside, it is a beautiful beach that offers great swimming and lots of shade. You can take a boat snorkel trip from here as well as other water activities. Not much snorkeling right off the shore though. On our most recent trip last week, we visited Playa Palancar a couple of times and it seemed pretty quiet and peaceful but it was also low season. So, I guess the jury is still out.

“slice of paradise”
Reviewed May 17, 2009

If your resort doesn't have a sandy beach, please stop at Playa Palancar, gorgeous fine white sand, clear blue water, lounge chairs... if you have a rental car or a taxi, drive south and dont be afraid of the rural road leading to the beach!!! Take the snorkel tour from there, Playa Palancar and Columbia Shallows, the shallows are supposed to be one of the best places to snorkel! and for $30, it is the most affordable in the island! We only regret that we got there at 3pm and didnt have the car for one more day! They also have a souvenir vendor on site if you want to pick up some stuff for home, dont be afraid to haggle with him!!
