“Playa Palancar is Heaven on Earth”
Reviewed November 15, 2012

Just returned from a Carnival Cruise 11/10/12-11/15/12 where we took a $20 cab ride to Playa Palancar. We asked the cab company stationed outside of the pier shopping area where to go to snorkel and he took us to Playa Palancar-white sandy beaches, pristine clear water, terrific staff and STRONG margaritias. No entry fee and 1 hr of beach snorkeling is free. They offer a boat ride to snorkel the 2nd largest reef in the world next to the Great Barrier Reef off Australia called the Palancar Reef- the price was originally quoted at $45, but we negotiated to $30 per person-well worth it-great guides and incredible reef and wildlife. The guide was terrific and we spent 1 1/2 hrs over two sections of the reef where we saw a black tip reef shark and huge sea turtle, tons of fish, etc. Also has jet ski & kayak rentals, etc- plenty to do or just lay on the beach! Terrific place and not near as much as booking a ship excursion.

Nice beach for laying out or sitting and having a beer. We stopped for a brief beer then kept driving around the island.

“A great Cozumel Beach Bar”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

It's a bit further from port than some Beach bars so seems to be not quite so crowded as compared to some others on Cruise Ship days.
The beach was beautiful, tables and chairs abundant and comfortable, food was delicious, beverages refreshing, bathroom and shower facilities very clean.
I was most happy to find some wonderful snorkeling right offshore! There is a small little reef in 4-9 feet of water right offshore that was COVERED in many different fish in all colors, shapes and sizes. It was a real treat!
The service was excellent and as with most people in Cozumel, staff was most pleasant and helpful. I've been to other Beach Bars in Coz and this was

“Awesome snorkeling trip, nice beach!!!”
Reviewed October 16, 2012

We were in port on Carnival Triumph on 10/11/12. We took cab to Playa Palancar. Paid $60 to cabbie and he took us there from Puetro Playa dock and waited for us in the parking lot all day (4-5 hours). We paid $35 per person to take boat out to reef. Our 8 year old son was free, since he did not snorkel. He went along for the ride and had fun regardless. The snorkeling was simply awesome. The reef was great. The staff was very nice and helpful. The water was very calm that day, which was good for our 13 year daughter, who has little snorkeling experience. We saw a shark, a few stingrays, and a sea turtle. M wife, daughter, and I absolutely loved it. When we returned, we spent the rest of our day on the beach. Beach is nice with plenty of beach chairs and chaises to relax. They have bar and restaurant, but we did not use either. This place was not crowded at all, which made it especially nice. We will defintiely be back.
