We had the benefit of all of the reviews written by all of the travelers before us about Casita de Maya, we chose it because of those reviews. But our experience exceeded the high expectations we already had! Here are a few of the things that were special:
-- In a small cozy place like this, the other guests are an important part of the enjoyment. Reading all of the reviews you can tell that CdM attracts a certain type of traveler/vacationer. What really happens is that you can be assured of spending time around the Casita with like-minded folks in interesting discussion and lots of laughs. Our group included two college professors and a later-in-life college student. With our own college student and recent grad, and Erik on the staff just finishing first semester freshman year at university in Cozumel - there were lively talks and lots of information trading. I'm sure others have similar bonding experiences.
-- Everyone acknowledges that Diego and his cooking are a big part of the joy of staying at Casita, but be sure to let him fix you both his big lobster dinner (whenever the lobstermen come by w/fresh ones) and his delicious breakfasts. You can't get that Yucatan-style breakfast sandwich or the amazing lobster dipping sauce anywhere else.
-- Take Dan's advice about everything, he always gives lots of options and directs you to the most local and colorful places. He won't steer you wrong no matter what.
-- Walk both to the waterfront and into 'town' from Casita. You quickly find yourself engaged and delighted by the people and places that are the real Cozumel, away from the cruise ship ports.
Casita de Maya is a very lovely small hotel - almost like having your own house - with fantastic service that goes beyond what you'd get anywhere else and a fount of information in Dan and his staff, as well as the best food on the island at Diego's around the corner.
And let's not forget Trixie and Chiquis, the Casita mascots.

I stayed there, believing that this hotel would provide a comfortable night as people say in Tripadvisor... Reality... it is not.

Simply too faraway from Centro. You have to take a cab to get anywhere from here. Beach? You have to rent a car. Very far.

I expected to have a good holiday stay there, but the ambiance was so pathetic. It may look nice in the photos, but it is one of those hotel photo which is far from reality...

One may say price is so high in Cozumel; there are better hotels in Centro. Unless you fancy hearing airplane noise, I would advise you to stay somewhere else.

First and Foremost I would like to express my Gratitude and Appreciation for all of our Guests and Trip Advisor for Awarding us with their 2012 Traveler's Choice Award for "Best Service" We would like to thank everyone for helping us achieve this distinction as the Best.

Now for the above matter.

I find it very hard and difficult to truthfully respond to a review where the guest did not actually stay at our Establishment. Thus, the many errors in the review. I will try and do my best.

We have numerous places from CDM that do not require you to obtain a Taxi or rent a car. Restaurants within walking distance include La Perlita, El Moro, Diego's just to name a few.

Airport noise is also a non factor. During the slow months Sept/Oct the airport averages 2 flights a day and somtimes 0 operations.

You also do not have to rent a vehicle to get to a beach. A 5 min. Taxi ride to Playa Azul, or a 12 block walk to Playa Casitas and the Love Cafe to watch the Sunset.

The pictures of our place are exactly that. Of our place. They were taken at our establishment.

If given the chance, we would have given the tools to make it easier as we do with all of our guests. Unfortunately, we did not get the chance with such minimal time and interaction with the above guest. I hope that the actual hotel we sent this customer to lived up to expectations.

All we can do is to keep making our product better and move forward so we can hopefully please everyone that comes through our Gates.

Yours Truly,

Dan Komorosky

We did not know exactly what to expect when we arrived at Casita de Maya. We made our choice to do something totally different this vacation instead of the All Inclusive path which we are tired of. Our choice was based on the very positive reviews the hotel had from previous guests, so we trusted those that visited before very highly. It’s a quick and easy walk from the Airport.

We were not disappointed at all. The place has a very distinct and pleasant feel once you are greeted by Dan, Erik, Wilber or the four legged gate keepers "Trixi and Chiquis."

Our room was spotless and cleaned everyday by Jolie. The attention to detail was always attended to. Sat TV along with Free Wi-Fi and free long distance calls back to the US were a big plus for us! Our courtyard room overlooked the pool and we had a little Terrace to enjoy our morning coffee and fruit which was set out every day. The hotel has a courtyard setting with beautiful plants and a great color scheme to really make it feel Tropical.

Erik and Dan helped us with our rental car, beach and snorkeling suggestions. There is a rental car facility right next door. So renting a car was a breeze. We drove around the "Back Side" of the Island. Absolutely a must when visiting here.

Another great adventure was eating at all the local places in an around the hotel. La Perlita right down the road from the hotel served up some of the best Grilled Grouper along with a great Margarita!!

Another gem was Diego's. A small outdoor Restaurant/Taco Stand that I would say gave us the true feel of a down home Mexican Meal. His Fish and Shrimp Taco's along with his Mexican Breakfasts were hands down a blessfull treat every time. He cooks from the heart and it shows.

We only stayed for four days, but we will be sure to come back next time and stay longer. Thank you Casita de Maya for a wonderful travel experience that we were yearning for!!

It really deserves its first place on tripadvisor for Cozumel.
We really loved it there. The rooms are very sweet and cosy.
There is a small pool, which is also very nice.
The service xas also very good.
We couldn't ask for more.
Although it is far from the center (but close to the airport), the taxi is very cheap (30pesos) and they call you you a taxi when you want !
Definatly will go back!

This is a great place to unwind and get the real flavor of Mexico. Located by the Airport, but the flights are in the day. You can't really hear the planes anyway. Dan is a gem of a person who will give you all the inside information on what to do on the island. Great fun with a cast of characters. Starting with Dan and Jollie (who takes care of the rooms and and is a darling person). Then you have the famous Trixie and Kitty who are the dog and cat that really run the place. With the right prodding (which will not take much) Trixie will take you to the food best stand on the island. Fresh food even Tony Bourdaine would rave about called Diego's Family Restaurant . If you don't have a great time, it's your own damn fault. We're going back the first week on December so I will give you an update when I get back.

Room Tip: First, there are only four rooms. Second, there are no bad rooms.

Short walk to the Airport. A great deal on mopeds or rental cars right next door. Great place to eat next street over at Diego's. Tv's in every room and coffee ready to go in the mornings. Dan ( the owner) got us mopeds for $20 a day.

Room Tip: All rooms are great! Each room has a lot of space for two.
