The hotel was nice we didnt have an ocean view. But it was enjoyable! It is away from the town center but for about 8bucks you could get a taxie.
The food was more toward those from Europe. We found some things the wife and i could eat.
We are just simple! I was very relaxed and the help was very friendly!
We were ther in Dec and enjoyed it. It had internet in lobby and a good view. I would have liked a king bed but that may have been my fault. The ferry will take you to the main land if you like. I will say that if you get a rental car get the local coverage US insuance just wont do. It has to be a company that is from mexico! I drove and enjoyed it.
One last thing the bed was hard. I heard alot of folks saying the same thing.

Room Tip: If you want a king bed ask for it. Overall you will enjoy yourself!

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 20, 2012

We stayed at the Melia Cozumel for 7 days in December and enjoyed a full week of spectacular weather. The hotel itself was clean and well maintained throughout. The room was somewhat musty smelling each day we entered, but the odour dissipated after opening the doors or turning on the air conditioner. Though we opted for an Oceanview, the palm trees and palapa huts blocked 80% of our view from the second floor.

The food in the buffet was quite good and it also had a diverse selection which varied each day. The omelette station in the morning was preferred over the trays of ready prepared scrambled eggs. Though much of the food is bland, there is enough diversity to satisfy any pallet. Three nights we opted for the a la carte restaurant, Cafe Paraiso. Reservations are made by standing in a line-up at 10:00 outside the main restaurant. Some days the line up was long, others short and once, non-existent. This is a bit of an imposition if you are planning on going into San Miguel early to beat the cruise ship crush. During our 3 nights, some of the tables in the Cafe were empty, probably “no shows”, which is a shame for those who were turned away after the reservations were full. We declined the extra cost meals (surf and turf, lobster, etc.) and stuck with the menu. The steaks are quite thin and the chicken breast was extremely salty. The coconut ice-cream smothered in Kalhua is a great end to a long day.

The beach bar was well stocked with local and premium brands. I do not believe any of the alcohol was watered-down, a suspicion I had in other all inclusive on the island during previous visits. The bartenders know their trade well and speak English quite well.

The beach grill has a limited menu, but what else do you need while sunbathing or swimming. The hamburgers and nachos are spectacular, as are the chicken wings and quesquedillas. Wait staff are prompt and efficient, so there is no standing in line.

Swimming is OK, but snorkelling is not all that great, but doable. Next door, about a 10 minute walk south, snorkelling at El Cozumeleno is superior. Sea-weed lines the beach each day, but again each morning staff rake the beach clean.

The iguanas that populate the gardens are numerous, interesting and quite large. The alpha male is about 4’ long and a spectacular orange colour. He is also photographic.

The Melia Cozumel resort is not well suited for disabled travellers. Though there are some ramps opposite stairs, there are many stairs without ramps throughout. Climbing to the second floor was tiring and progressively painful throughout the week.

All staff were courteous, pleasant and eager to please at all times. The room fridge was re-stocked each day with bottled water, beer and soda. Internet access needs improvement as it was impossible for me to connect, which I tried to do on two occasions. Though, I witnessed other people surfing away at times.

The car rental (Fiesta) is a bit bewildering. Thought the agent was courteous and helpful he could not satisfactorily explain why I needed to pay 25% in cash, while the remainder was on credit card. For parking in San Miguel along the coast road, you will now need to feed the meter, 12 pesos per hour. So get change before you leave the hotel. The front desk requires a passport to exchange even the smallest of currency!

Room Tip: If you truly want an ocean view, ask for something on the 3rd floor or higher if you are in the towe...

Short drive from the airport in Cozumel. Very small resort so it was nice that everything is within a short walk. Great snorkelling part of the beach next to the pier which is a 2 minute walk from the hotel. The buffet isn't great. Drinks are good. Nachos and chicken wings are best at the snack bar. This resort is your best bet for a quiet relaxing atmosphere. Not much going on at all times but the snorkelling is great. Bring a banana or piece of bread if you would like the fish to come to you. Bring your snorkelling gear! Heard downtown is just minutes away in a 7usd cab ride. Doing a one day tour around the island to see the rustic side of the island that faces the Caribbean Sea and a Mayan ruin. Also visiting the tequila factory and the south end of the island where the reefs are.

Stayed the first 2 weeks in December, we have a timeshare with the resort. We met a lot of returning guest who did not have timeshare at the resort. The food was great. Breakfast had something for everyone eggs, fruit, lox, yogurt, etc.. Lunch was very good freshly grilled fish and steaks, Mexican specially dishes, fresh salads etc.. Dinner was also very good. Desserts were excellent. Drinks were great. Accommodations were excellent we had an ocean view. Sailing, kayak, white sandy beech, gym, tennis, bikes, golf. A lot to do during the day. Piano bar at night with nightly show.

Room Tip: If you are looking for the bar scene or a lot of night activity this may not be the resort for you...

We just returned from a week at Melia Cozumel. Solid four star all inclusive. Our room was deluxe ocean view and we were literally right smack on the beach. Slept every night with the doors open to the sound of the Caribbean Sea!
Here is a brief summary of what we thought of the resort.

Plus side
Very clean rooms, all had balconies, from what I could see.
Ocean view gets you right on the beach.
Somewhat older property that is pretty well maintained.
Breakfast was especially good. Coffee and cappuccinos delicious.
You could dine al fresco or inside, almost anytime during the day, from 6:30 til 11 pm.
For a moderate amount, the golf package lets you golf everyday for free and just pay the cart rental. (30usd)
Very laid back.
Staff is very helpful and service minded.
Very relaxing, not fancy, which is what we like.
The sand on the beach is the best. Very soft. Just beautiful.
Palapas all over beach for shade, if desired.
Comfy chaise lounges.
Piano music some evenings at the lounge bar.
Piano music each night in specialty restaurant.
Two nice pools, one family, one adult.
Swim up bar at adult pool.
Beach bar right on beach.
Great drinks.
Nice meals at buffet.
Beachside snack sit down snack restaurant.
Excellent food in specialty restaurant.
Nice spa and gym.
Pretty gardens and grounds.
Most days, the sea in front was pretty clear, with just some sea weed. I went in everyday but one and loved it
Easy entry for snorkeling, which is decent from melia on southward to south of playa azul hotel.

Minus side
It is true that because there is no break wall, lots of sea weed can be in front of beach after a storm. HOWEVER, all you have to do is walk two minutes to beach next door and get into crystal clear water. So the one day after it stormed, I didn't get into water right in front of hotel, but walked two minutes down the beach.
I would have enjoyed some live music in addition to the piano music, but minor point. Most nights we were in bed by 9 pm because of our fun filled days.
Really no other negatives.

We really enjoyed ourselves and would go back if the price were right. The great package we got on their own website made it a very worthwhile deal. Grams98

Room Tip: We preferred deluxe ocean view, right on the beach. Low rise building.

Stayed for 2 weeks in Nov. in a room facing the ocean. The view was fabulous. The room amenities were great- but the property is showing its age. Buffet rest. cycled thru the usual fare and got boring in the 2nd week. The al la carte resturants were great-- excellent service but you need to book early to get a spot. The swimming pool is in the shade most of the time and is unheated--COLD. Time-share sales people were nice and we got comped tickets to see the park on the other side of the island--big surf, crocs, lighthouse, etc. Car rental was thrown in-- just had to give them 1 hour of our time. Great kiteboarding location which is a short walk north on the beach.

Room Tip: pay extra to get an ocean view
