Having read some so-so reviews I was reluctant to try the Melia but a deal too good to pass came up so had to give it a shot. Four of us were guests from the 5th - 10th October. Check in was smooth with the front desk very friendly, changed money a couple times and still a friendly staff. Very convenient to be able to do that at hotel. Good FREE internet, best in lobby but some places, room and outdoors picked up too. Breakfasts were great, every day. We had lunch at the Iguana Snack bar about every day, very good, better than one meal we had in town even. Drinks were very good, a little tip goes a long way but not necessary for good drinks and service. Yup the beds are firm, pillows left much to be desired, we were on an end room and AC wasn't the best or the worse and the best snorkeling required a 70 yard walk, the shows somewhat campy. All true, but the charm, people, good vibe will guarantee a return visit.

Three families of 4 (total of 12) spent six days on island - when hurricane came through. We had a great time. I've broken down Pros/Cons on the stay based on our experience.

PROS:
1. All inclusive and never went hungry or thirsty.
2. Great natural beach. Spent a lot of time there.
3. Very safe. Never once felt unsure about our surroundings.
4. Played two rounds of golf (included): very nice Nicklaus design.
5. Nice large rooms.

CONS:
1. Small pools.
2. Though good variety, food could've been better.

Overall we had a great time and would do it again.

We stayed at Melia Cozumel from Sept. 29 thru Oct. 4th. We had a blast! We were concerned because of some of the reviews. We didn't need to be. Place was clean, people were friendly- even the front desk. Water was not so clear but we took a short walk next door and snorkled over there. Food was good you could always find something to eat. Not many people since it was October but it was like being at your own private resort. There were several honeymoon couples there. Just one caution -Beware of the margaritas and tequila shots-you may find youself face first in the sand.

2nd trip, 3rd trip in a few months
about as expected, 9/9-914/2012
friendly staff, clean room, air conditioner worked, hot and cold water worked, beach is long and very nice, mostly good food, drinks were ok,

water was murky, with rocks. one evening fish meal was undesireable, wifi is weak, many steps on resort, tile floors are mostly slippery, snack bar could be improved.

we had a good experience, we got what we expected. it was a relaxing few days.

Room Tip: we tip the maids daily, maybe that makes for a cleaner, fresher room

We went to Melia September 12 through September 23rd. If you are looking to relax, recharge and enjoy quality service-this is the place for you. The hotel is small by standards but you wouldn't know it with the quality of service, clean rooms, overall appearance of the resort. The staff-WOW!! they understand what VACATION Means and will go above and beyond to assist you. I cannot say enough or would even try. If you want to relax, recharge and enjoy quality service, Melia Cozumel is the place to stay. Enjoy and say hello to William, Lupe, the Captain, Andre, Victor, Alfredo and within the vacation club Kimberly. They are fantastic.

Room Tip: Upgrade to the suites, the quality is awesome!!

First time going to our timeshare resort and the place is quite nice and clean. The all-inclusive part is a bit disenchanting since the hotel does not give you the option to buy food or drinks if you prefer to just do the European plan. And with this hotel being far away from El Centro, it doesn't give you a lot of options for food and drinks.

It's definitely beach front but the water directly in front of the hotel gets a lot of runoffs which makes it murky.

Room Tip: As for a room at the upper floors (sixth floor and above)

This was our 1st time to fly to Cozumel and stay at the Melia'. September was a perfect time. Very quite and not crowded at all. Very clean. Loved our room (a jr suite). The beds slept very good and the aircondition would freeze you out (which I loved). The rooms have balconies over looking the water. The guys took advantage of the golf deal and loved the course. The staff is wonderful. We are already planning our next trip back here again in September and meeting up with a couple we met there. Everyone we met that stayed there was also so friendly.

Room Tip: we had a jr suite and loved it. beds are very comfortable and the rooms are spacious
