“Great Food, Most Romantic Restaurant on Cozumel”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

We dined here three time here during our month-long stay on Cozumel - which is pretty good, considering the restaurant is only open on Friday and Saturday nights. The food is terrific, with excellent specials in addition to the regular menu. Very personalized attention from the owner, as well as the manager. You can dine al fresco or under cover, but still open to the air. Very romantic, torch-lit place with wonderful views.

“PERFECTION is spelled BUCCANOS”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

Made reservations for two via Open Table system. Very easy. And received email confirmation.
Location: at north end of town on main avenue paralleling the shore. Dark driveway with guard just before sharp right to driveway for restaurant. Easy parking in front. Unlit area however. As we stepped into the deserted foyer area, was greeted by flashlight toting hostess who guided us to the dining area. Greeted by a lovely ( looks way younger than her 71 years) hostess who seated us and offered blankets for our shoulders to fend off the 25 mph winds outside. Lovely view at night of the lit pool, and that evening regular waves crashing over the sea wall as result of the wind.
Our hostess described the two special cocktails for that Saturday evening. The owner, a slim blonde woman who kept a wide supervisory eye on her front of the house came over and described the evenings dinner specials. My partner and I pondered what to order as we sipped our delicious cocktails. I chose the mahi mahi fish special served on plantains, for my main, as a delicious shrimp bisque for an opener. My friend Jon chose the crispy calamari which resembled huge onion rings deep fried back home in New England. His main was the fresh tuna special. (The owner said she has her own boats- so fish is always fresh. His tuna had been rolled in sesame, and was sided with deep fried green beans. We groaned as the various levels of spices, flavors and textures were experienced. He said his tuna was "superior" and cooked MR just as he requested.
Dessert was a lovely 4 inch high cheesecake with ganache about an inch thick. I confided to the hostess a better name for this was " almost as good as great sex". Doubt that it will get renamed- but don't go home without trying it!
In summary, so far this by far is the best restaurant in Cozumel for our month long trip.
We will try their breakfast and lunch offered every day. Buccanos at night is very special- as it is open only two evenings a week. That allows the owner/chef to be creative, rested and present in order to offer a very fine dining experience. If you have only one night (Friday or Sat) to experience perfection---then get your Open Table reservation fingers walking to their site. Enjoy

“Breathtaking atmosphere and incredible food”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

The ocean, a pool, and palm trees surrounding candle lit tables make for a truly intimate setting. The service is outstanding, and the cuisine is made with such creative collaborations and food parings, your pallet will be tantalized by all the magnificent flavors it is being exposed to. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a truly unique dining experience. Be sure to make reservations ahead of time though, seeing as they are only open for dinner on Friday and Saturday nights, and they book up quickly.

“Best experience EVER!”
Reviewed February 16, 2013

We were lucky enough to spend Valentine's night at the best restaurant on the island. The entire meal was dazzling. It was by far the best meal I have ever had. The grounds, with the magical torches twinkling in the background, made it quite the romantic setting. From the moment we arrived we were treated like royalty. Service was impeccable and the food was to die for. Definately put this fantastic restaurant on your "bucket list".

“Deserves it's Number One spot!”
Reviewed February 13, 2013

Right next to our hotel (Playa Azul) and we went there on the last weekend, wished we had gone on first too!! It's only open for dinner Fri and Sat night.
This WAS my favourite...beautiful grounds, magical feeling (full moon when we were there) It's outside, next to sea. Staff very attentive, lovely tables and delicious and well presented food on par with any top restaurant. There is an excellent menu and also specials, I think 3 or 4 for starter and main. We had chosen from the menu then everyone changed to specials, because they were awesome! Great wine selection. They get their own fresh fish in for the days they are open and meat choices too.
Coming in from the road way may look a bit dark, the adjoining hotel is not used...but don't be put off! I think it's best to make a reservation, although our party of 4 just walked across. The restaurant was fairly full though. Take time to walk back inside, beautiful!
