We just got back last night from Cozumel; we spent 7 days there. Overall our experience was OK. We have travelled to every Caribbean destination over the last 26 years, so my reviews are based on comparisons and experience.

A hotel employee, very polite and helpful greeted us at the hotel. Check in went well. We arrived at 11am and our room was only ready at 4pm. We took out our bathing suits and went to the pool and had some lunch.

The pools are very nice; the relaxing pool is nice and kept clean. The large pool near the beach was nice, although the water was not clean. The bottom of the pool was not clean, the water was not clear. I only saw someone cleaning the pool once during our stay.

The beach is clean and plenty of chairs.

Our room was nice although the Air Conditioning was very noisy; we had to turn it off at night because of the noise. The thermostat as well did not work properly. The room also always had a musty smell. We talked to the front desk about this. The front desk staff were really useless, not much help from them at all.

The reservation’s for the La Carte restaurants was a nightmare, every time we would call to book they told us they were all full, which was never the case. After calling numerous times I was able to get reservations. At one of the restaurants, the manager told us to just show up and he would squeeze us in.

La Piazza restaurant on the beach is one of the a la carte restaurants; it is also used for the lunch restaurant. The restaurant is OK, nothing special.

We never ate at the Sonora Grill, but we heard from other guests that it was good.

We ate twice at the Los Olivos restaurant, the food and service was excellent.

The buffet restaurant for breakfast and supper called La Posada, was not that great. Food was generally cold, lacked variety.

You have to wait outside before being seated in the restaurant, I found this annoying, the restaurant was sometimes empty and they still made us wait. There is no sign stating to wait to be seated. The first night we sat ourselves down and the waiters were not happy. Most of the all inclusive we have been to, the process is quick, There is usually someone standing at the front door seating people. La Posada seems to have all the waiters doing this job. They need more organization in this restaurant.

They also need more entertainment at night; many of us found the place very quiet at night. It’s great for relaxation, but it would be nice to have a band in one of the bars playing every night.

The bartenders were all great.

Overall the staff and feel of the place was Ok. I am glad I went, but would not go back again.

The grounds of the resort are beautiful and very well kept. The rooms are very large and well kept but they have an extreme musty smell. We mentioned this to staff and the pillows and our curtains were changed to fresh ones which helped some. It would help to take an air freshener with you for this problem. The beach was great and the lunch buffet is great! The burgers and hot dogs were a real hit with all. The beach bar was just ok..long line to get a drink becaused it was only staffed with 1 bartender to handle the beach and pool patrons. We enjoyed the wild life that made itself known at the quiet pool. The evening buffet was ok..nothing special. It was hard to get drink glasses and spoons..always running out of them. We never left hungry tho! Our group of 6 adults had a good time and will be back to visit Cozumel again but will probably try a different resort.

We stayed here at the Royal Club from Apr 11-18th. We had an amazing trip and met some great people. My first suggestion would be to book the A La Cartes as soon as you get there. With the Royal Club you are entitled to get preferred A La Carte reservations. We were able to get 5 of the 7 nights, only because we waited too long to get the first 2 nights.
The quiet pool was our favorite spot. The pool was always warm and relaxing. The bar never had a line up and the bartender would always come around and take drink orders from everyone around or in the pool.
The room was updated and the bathroom was huge!! Shower was amazing with great water pressure. The bathtub with jets was really nice.
The A La Cartes had the best food ever and I am a picky eater. The buffets always had a variety of food and has something for everyone.
I have noticed a couple of bad reviews on this website, even one that travelled the same week as us only giving a 1 of 5. Please don't take a lot of notice to some peoples reviews and experience this place for yourself. They are just your usual complaining people that would rather write bad reviews instead of speaking to the staff directly to get things resolved.
If you ever have any issues while there, just let the staff know and they will correct it promptly. We had the handle break off our toilet around midnight one night and the maintenance guy was there to fix it within 15 minutes. The staff really want to please and are there to make your experience great.
You will never feel unsafe at this resort, they ask your room number at the gated enterance before they will let you in. We rented a scooter for the week for $160 and did the whole island. We seen no crime and travelled at night.
There is beach towels in your room that you would bring to the pools/beach with you.
No complaints at all from us. The weather was amazing, the staff was extremely helpful and we will definitely return next year.

Room tip: We stayed on the both the bottom floor and 2nd floor and both were great!!

We stayed at the Grand the week of March 31- April 7. It was our third time in Cozumel, but first time at this resort. We are travelling without the kids on this trip and found the resort to be very accomodating for couples without kids. There is a quite pool for adults that trully was quite. The bar at this pool even didn't offer blended drinks because the blender would make noise. The immaculate grounds and classy architecture are also extra touches for adults to enjoy.

That being said, it also seemed to be a great place for a family and we would definitely consider bringing our kids here in the future. The kids club seemed great, the shows at night got the kids involved, and the grounds are full of iguanas and wildlife that kids will enjoy.

We enjoyed the food, including the reservation restaurants. At every meal there was good food available. Anyone that has stayed at other all inclusives and paticularly on Cozumel would not complain about the food at this resort.

We had previously stayed up at the North end of the island on our previous visits. It is very different at the southern area where the Grand is located. Sandy beaches that you can walk along for miles. Whereas, our experience on the North end was more of rocky beaches. Each has their advantages and disadvantages. We enjoyed the sandy beaches at the Grand, but we also enjoyed the more rocky beaches in the North because they tended to have a little better snorkling and more clear water (at least from our experience).

We walked next door to the Occidental Allegro to look at it and it appeared to be more catered towards families as there were water slides, etc. It looked like there may be more to do there for kids, although it wasn't as "classy" as the Grand. So it really comes down to what the traveller is looking for. For us as a couple travelling without kids on this trip, we were definitely glad that we chose the Grand.

First of all, the grounds are absolutely beautiful. We stayed in unit 13 in a gorgeous room on the 2nd floor. What we realized when we left though, and got to use a courtesy room before getting on our flight, is that they don't all reek of mildew! I wish I had insisted on a room change. That aside, the room was clean and the bathroom was huge; beds comfortable. I was thrilled because the buffet restaurant had outdoor seating which is a must for me when I am leaving winter behind for a week! We were really impressed with the buffet meals - many freshly made food stations and amazing fruit selections. We were there without two tween aged kids so it was fun playing table tennis with them, poolside chess, and tennis. I would recommend bringing your own racquets if you are serious players as they only have 4 racquets. And there is no point reserving them - they take the reservation but don't make sure that the racquets are returned! The a la carte situation is strange - we arrived Sat night at 10 pm, and by 10 the next morning, there was only one space left to reserve!! We never got into the pizza restaurant on the beach in the evg BUT it was the highlight of our day at lunch! We would get a beach side seat, order margaritas and eat the homemade salsa, guacamole and tortilla chips. Another fun thing to do is to glaze some pottery at the beach; it's a therapeutic way to while away an afternoon and the kids loved it. We have some colourful salt and pepper shakers and hurricane lamps to show for our efforts! If you are a beach walker (as we are), you can walk for miles but it's challenging! The sand is very soft but beautiful.
I also recommend the snorkelling trip from the hotel - the one with 3 stops. Bring extra towels and clothes - you will be very cold when you get out of the water! It is absolutely gorgeous though and entirely worth it. The kids loved it.
If you like pool aerobics – you will not get fit here! I called it aerobics for drunks. I think the instructors should at least watch a few videos to get some ideas. The gym is not bad and has all the basics. Kids activities were limited but the staff were really nice and the kids did some crafts.

My only real complaint is that Canadian Spring Break and Texan Break is evidently at the same time - we had a large group of supervised teens who drank all afternoon, taking over the ping pong table for a drinking game called “Beer pong”; by evening they were completely polluted. Did I mention they were supposedly supervised? Their final gift was to throw the ping pong table into the pool, wood furniture into the turtle pond, beach loungers into the sea. I would not want to go here at this time of year again, because of this.

Room tip: Stay far away from the main buildings.
