“Wheelchair accessible taxi tour of Cozumel.”
Reviewed January 17, 2014

We were on a cruise stop in Cozumel for about 10 hours, decided to book our own tour online before we left, as it's very expensive for a family such as ours with 6 people, including a son in a wheelchair. I found "This is Cozumel- private tours" and the booking procedure, the pickup, the driver, were all problem free. Our driver was very friendly, spoke english well, and knew the island well and where we could go problem free with a wheelchair. The only negative aspect I have, and I knew this going there, is that wheelchair accessible in North America, is not Wheelchair accessible in most other countries including Cozumel, Mexico. We consider a wheelchair accessible vehicle in Canada to be modified either by having a higher roof, or a lowered floor, so that the wheelchair user can sit comfortably without hitting their head on the roof of the vehicle. As well we have tiedowns for the chairs in Canada/Usa, just in case of a car accident, holding down the chair, and the person in the wheelchair. The vehicle we were given that was wheelchair accessible, simply had a lift that puts the wheelchair in the very back of the van, and it takes some manipulation to get the person in safely without hitting their head on the door latches, and roof of the vehicle. But to their benefit, our driver was extremely gentle and careful, made do with what he had, and drove very safely to keep us at ease and keep our son comfortable.

Hi Enzo and thank you for finding time to post your review, we're delighted you had such a good tour! Thank you also for pointing out some of the differences between the vehicles here and in the USA/Canada. This feedback was very useful and we have now used it to update the tour description on our website to help future customers. We hope you can make it back to Cozumel again soon!

“Chichen Itza - Private Plane Tour”
Reviewed January 16, 2014

From Cozumel, this is the ONLY way to go. We quickly got from our ship to the airport where a person was waiting for us, greeted us, explained the itinerary for the day and introduced us to the pilot. We took an exciting small plane ride over to the ruins and saw them from the air. Landed and a car was waiting for us which took us to the ruins where a guide was there waiting for us. A GREAT GUIDE! Saw the ruins, off to CNOTE, ok, but more time at the ruins instead would have been better. Then back to the airport and a flight and aback to Cozumel.

If you have never been on a small plane, its an adventure you will never forget. The whole day worked like clock work. Only criticism - more time at the ruins instead of a bad meal and CNOTE. Very good tour operator though!

Hi Jay and a big thanks for taking the time to post your review, we're delighted you had such a good tour. We have also passed your comments about the lunch and cenote on to the tour operator. It is possible to customize this tour to have more time at the ruins and less time at the cenote, but they usually need to know in advance. We will now make this clearer in the tour description and to anyone that reserves the tour in the future, so thank you again, your feedback is very useful. We hope you can make it back again soon!

“Private Taxi- Got to do it all!”
Reviewed December 7, 2013

Our ship let us off at 10:30 and we went to where we were told to pick up... and our taxi wasn't there. (to get to the pickup place we followed the other cruise ship passengers which takes you through a mall, its strange... but you end up on the main sea wall and the post office is right there, you can't miss it. just make sure to dodge other sales people trying to sell you scooters and tours... its really annoying.... ) We were worried becasue our taxi wasn't there, and we called the reservation number and they were under the impression we docked at 7:30am.... but, they were able to pick us up within 5 minutes and we started our adventure. We only had 5 hours on land. I was traveling with my sister 22, and Myself 31.

we stopped along the shore line and our driver took a photo of us with our camera. Then we went to the ruins, dont forget your bug spray. Honestly, after seeing Tulum, Coba, and Chitsunitza on prior visits... I was VERY dissapointed in the ruins in Cozumel and will not be going again, it was very small and pedllers were trying to take your pictures... offer tours.. or give you bug spray... and I was told that even the guides are not official and they make up the stories of the ruins, so its not even true. It was a waste of time and I'm a history buff. anyway, so we saw that, then headed along the east cost where there was no electricity and our driver told us about the sea turtle protection efforts nad we saw hundreds of turlte nests along the road, and we stopepd at "Cocunts bar". The bar is NOT just some place our driver wanted us to stop at so he could get a cut of our purchases. It really is a NEAT and famous bar. we scalled these steps to the 400ft above sea level bar and had a blue margarita, then continued to get a little tipsy... my new favorite shot is a shot of white tequilla followed by bloody mary mix shot. wow.. smooth and addicting. This bar is not for children, its famous for taking photos of BOOBS. so, we had fun and then stumbled back down to our own private taxi waiting for us. Then our driver stopped at a national sea turtle building and we saw an albino sea turlte... and got to hold a 3 day old baby sea turtle! (this was all free and super cool). then we stopped at some famous rock formations and took tons of pictures and found a guy with an iguana who took tons of pictures of us with the iguana for $5.00. then we got back in the taxi and went on to El Cedral... which was a joke, skip this... it was vacant and a waste of time... nothing was going on... I have no idea what the big deal is- El cedral is a local events center, trading post... maybe in the summertime its more touristy with local merchants and a bazzar feeling.. but on this trip, it was VACANT... Also, our driver told us to skip the touristy Tequilla farm tour, El Hacienda, that had a $14.00 entrance fee, and instead, he took us to one that was FREE... it was a walking tour of how its done, it wasnt an actual real farm- but we got to see the agave and we got a private tour becasue we were the only ones there and at the end they gave us like 8 shots (so of course my sister bought $100.00 of tequilla bottles)... then it was back to the cruise terminal.

once parked, thats when we paid the driver. total was $80.00 per person plus we gave him a $25.00 tip for getting us back safe and on-time. we ran back to the ship becasue we only had 4 minutes to spare, but not before my sister got suckered in from a store clerk in the mall who said "free shots"... so she bought me a necklace and we got 4 more shots... and then RANNNN back to the ship and made it on-time.

Its important to know that we felt safe. Our driver was very familiar with all the stops we wanted to make and seemed to make all the same stops on other tours for people. He was also mindful of the times but never made us feel rushed. He also seemed to protect us at times. For example, my sister bought a souvineer and we asked the driver if it was a good price. He also asked us if we had water BEFORE going in the myan ruins and offered to stop at a conveniant store. If you follow this plan, you can do and see it all. Cozumel is not that big and most tours have too many people to get this much done in only 5 hours. For example, the cruise ship offered "myan ruins, and myan cultural center" thats it....and I'm soooo glad we didn't do it. If you have children, I would do Playa De Mia, a family water park for the entire day. If its just you and a friend, or spouse, thake the private taxi to the east side where the cool stuff is (turltes and coconuts bar for sure, but even if you just wanted private beach time, thats where you can stop and spend some time).

“Great variety of tours!”
Reviewed October 20, 2013

We booked several tours through this company, and all were very good. They are well-organized and give you vouchers to print and bring with you on your trip. I will review each one separately. Alex was very helpful answering questions throughout the booking.

AIRPORT TRANSFER
Our round-trip transfer was $40, which was a good price considering the prices for a taxi in Cozumel. We had a shared van on the way there, and a voucher for a taxi on the way back. The voucher gives you very specific instructions on what to do when you get to the airport so there is no confusion and it all goes smoothly.

OTHER SIDE OF COZUMEL
This tour was really nice , as we had our own driver to take us to the other side of the island. We stopped at El Cedral, Palancar, Punta Sur, El Mirador, Coconuts, San Gervasio, and the tequila factory. The driver gave us quite a bit of useful information and was very nice and willing to take us wherever we wanted to go. There was a bit of confusion in the morning, as we were waiting in the lobby at 8 am and wondering where our driver was, and another taxi driver informed us that he was waiting outside the gate, and that we had to tell someone to let him in. We did not know this, so this is something to bear in mind if anyone else runs into the same difficulty. It was a great tour and very nice to get an overview of the island.

DISCOVER MEXICO/CHANKANAAB
This tour starts out taking you to the Discover Mexico museum first, then Chankanaab afterwards. We were fortunate enough to have a guide explain everything at the Discover Mexico museum. First, we watched a short film, then he took us through the museum and explained the different art objects and where they were from. He also took us through the outside areas where they have the replicas of the Mayan Ruins and also various other buildings in Mexico. He was able to take some photos of the replicas to make it look like we were actually there. He did a good job of explaining things and it was nice to see the places that I had already been to in Mexico, and made me want to go visit some other places that were presented that I had not been to yet. Chankanaab - we didn't spend a lot of time there since my travelling companions were in a hurry to get back to the hotel for a timeshare presentation, but the park is very pretty from what I did see and offers a variety of activities. We went to the sea lion show, walked around the beach for a bit, visited the lagoon and crocodile exhibit, then the gift shops. If I get back to Cozumel, I will probably go back to Chankanaab when I can spend more time there.

Hi Daniela and a big thank you for reviewing the three products you booked with us! We're delighted you had such a good time and apologize for the hiccup with the taxi tour. The taxi should have been allowed in to the hotel lobby to pick you up, so we're checking why this didn't happen. It may be that there was a last minute change of taxi number and that they couldn't get permission from the hotel/taxi union in time to enter. However, this is not acceptable and we are putting systems in place to ensure it does not happen again. We hope you can make it back to Cozumel again soon and thank you again for your reviews!

“Beach-Day Pass an amazing value & crazy fun”
Reviewed September 24, 2013

This is my third time booking with This is Cozumel as an alternative to the expensive Carnival Cruise Excursions. I really wanted a more private experience than seeing thousands of people from the cruise. We booked a few days and I had some concerns, which Alex, from This is Cozumel quickly answered via email. Even when the Allegro Resort had some construction issues, Alex quickly booked us (party of 5) to the sister Occidental Grand Resort -- same deal, upscale service all the way. The resort was perfect. Everyone was friendly and welcomed us. No problems. We had to time ourselves to truly enjoy the snorkeling, relaxing on the blue pools, enjoying mudslides, piña coladas and margaritas and then enjoying an awesome buffet lunch -- yes all inclusive means, everything was included. What a deal! My fiancé and her friends were having the time of their lives at this resort. Sadly we were there for only a 4-5 hours, we love to spend the day. Bottom line: This is Cozumel is a great alternative to the expensive and crowded cruise tours offered by Carnival. The value for $54 was a steal - this included use of all equipment (snorkel, fins, life jackets, etc), unlimited use of pools and fresh towels and unlimited mixed drinks and huge lunch buffet.

Pros:
- Great value for $54 included everything
- Resort was clean and very friendly, food was amazing
- Customer Service (Alex) was awesome. Even called us for last min changes.
- Directions and information to resort was clear.
- Mixed drinks were nice - since we skipped the Cruise drinks, we had our fill here.
- Everyone speaks English

Cons:
- You have to time yourself to make sure you arrive at your destination and leave plenty of time to catch the cruise
- Hotel is about a 20-25 drive from Cruise port, so TAXI is not included and on your own - cost is around $20-24 for 5 people.
- Lockers are not included.
- Should have a deposit $25 and $25 etc at resort

Bookmark This is Cozumel for a great vacation and awesome value!
