Diego's little garden spot turned into a daily hang for my wife and I. Right around the corner from our lodgings at Casita de Maya (another wonderful spot). We started off with breakfast, ended up having more meals here than any other single place on Cozumel. Excellent, tasty food, attentive, courteous service. Diego and his family could not have been friendlier or more helpful to us. Wide ranging discussions over fish tacos, fruit plates, mexican eggs. And in the evening, excellent Margaritas. This is al fresco, outdoor style, tables, chairs and small lunch counter under a tent next to a large plant nursery. Nothing fancy, just the kind of good eating and company that keeps you coming back. Aside from the food, Diego's helpful advice on island sights and culture proved extremely helpful to us. Such warm and welcoming people. Please say hello from Michael And Mary when you go.

Diego is so nice and his food is incredible. He introduced us to a couple of new Mexican dishes that we absolutely loved! We loved chatting with him and his son Eric and at the end of our trip, our biggest regret was that we did not eat every meal at Diego's!

Diegos is a great place to eat. We had all of our breakfasts there and 75% of our dinners there . He made us a whole Flounder that was out of this world. Lobster (4 tails for the 2 of us) and anything we wanted he would have made.Papino his desert specialist made me the best flan I have ever had. The food there is as good as it gets, but lookout for the high pressure excursion pitches. 1st it was a trip around the island with his son, I said no. Then a boat trip to Passion Island, I said no. Then he became upset, so then it was on to the big Fiesta with band and his family. Once again I said no. When it became apparent I was not going for the excursion sales pitch my bill for the same breakfast I had every day all of a sudden became more expensive than before, so like I said Great food here but stay away from the un-licensed excursions. Would have been 5 star without the sales pitch.

If you are not the adventurous type, Diego's is not for you. But if you go to Cozumel looking for authentic Mexican food and wonderful warm people, this is it! Diego and his family will treat you like you are a part of their family and they will do whatever is necessary to make you happy. If you want something that you do not see on the menu, just ask. They will make anything you wish.
Diego's is entirely outdoor seating surrounded by plants. If you are looking for what we Americans call a restaurant, you will miss it. It is more like a fair booth. But don't let the appearance fool you! It is great.
When you are ready to step outside the box and explore a little, try this place!

We spent a week in Cozumel and ate at Diego's almost every day. He and his family (and Senor Pepino) greeted us warmly every time, and created special meals for us when he discovered our preferences. All the meals were lovingly prepared: the shrimp, fish, and chorizo tacos were perfection; fajitas, frijoles charros (Diego-style, with smoked sausage), cochinita pibil (a surprise just for us on our last day!), smooth and creamy flan; horcheta, margaritas, and mojitas made with mint from the herb garden near our table; and on and on. Thanks to Diego, the nearby Casita de Maya, where we stayed, and the Deep Blue dive shop, this was a vacation to remember!

Note that the restaurant itself is simple -- open air, beneath a tent -- but the atmosphere is lovely. Quiet, surrounded by greenery (a tree nursery is next door), and comfortable. We loved it, can you tell?
