“Modern, Clean, Excellent Service and Great Breakfast Buffet”
Reviewed February 12, 2010

We selected the Casa Mexicana based upon previous tripadvisor reviews and we were not disappointed. The location is just a few blocks from the town square and convenient to restaurants and dive shops. Upon check in we were greeted with a refreshing drink and moist towel to freshen up. Our ocean front room on the 5th floor was of ample size with a large balcony that had a panoramic view of the Caribbean Ocean. Note that the view from the lower floors is partiallly obstructed by adjacent buildings. The free wifi in the room worked well once they reset the router on our floor. The hotel also has a free internet room with 4 computers for guests. The free breakfast buffet is the best we have enjoyed anywhere. We found the service staff to always be friendly and helpful. The staff was constantly keeping the public areas clean and the maid service was superior.

For restaurants we enjoyed the La Mission (www.lamissioncozumel.com/ing/) which had a good variety of seafood, steaks and Mexican dishes on the menu at very reasonable prices. We ate there four out of our seven nights. We also recommend Palmeras located in the Square.

For SCUBA diving, I recommend Aldora Divers (www.aldora.com/), located about a block from the hotel. Aldora uses 120# steel tanks and computers which allowed for an hour or more of bottom time. They also utilize "fast boats" and group sizes are kept small. During the week our groups ranged from 3 to 5 divers and we had up to an hour and sixteen minutes of bottom time.

I've given Casa Mexicana a rating of excellent to draw people's attention. However do read WHAT'S BAD below.
WHAT'S GOOD: A very clean well kept hotel. We had a luxury ocean view room on the second floor that had quite a comfortable king size bed. The shower over the bath was good with a decent force and hot water. Breakfasts were excellent and plentiful with a good variety of fresh fruit that we enjoy, the usual sweet pastries that we avoid, bacon, eggs, omelettes to order, etc. Hotel is located at a convenient central location on the waterfront of St Miguel with many restaurants in easy walking distance.
Room service was very thorough, friendly and clean with all towels replaced and floors washed daily.
Free wi-fi provided was very much appreciated.
WHAT'S BAD:The design of his hotel has a large open internal atrium with solid concrete walls. This acted like a sound chamber and the amplification of people talking at a normal volume at night in the atrium is a disturbance making is hard to get to sleep with all the noise.
No coffee or tea was available for self service either in rooms or in the atrium.
Front desk staff were not very helpful and one member that we asked three times over three days to arrange a round island trip failed to do so. She was in our opinion hopeless and either management here is poor in their training of staff or they do not know how poor she is. In the end we arranged our own trip using the Internet.
There was no evidence of a concierge on site to assist residents.
There is a small plunge pool here but it is too small to swim in and we did not see anyone use it.

I've never seen a hotel as clean as this one. Staff were constantly cleaning something. The service was great. They had some issues with power going out that was out of their control, but they moved me to another room a couple of times to make things work as best as they could. Breakfast was always diverse and tasty with personalized service. The waiter would remember me and have coffee ready, etc. The location is perfect for those who don't want to eat at an all inclusive (this is a true hotel, not a resort) because it is right downtown next to all of the shopping and dining options.

I liked my room, I liked the location in the center of town, the very generous breakfast which was tailored to my special diet. Above all I liked the personal attention I was given from all staff, even the General Manager and it was not just a a privilege to me. I noticed how everyone was cared for in a special way. On three occasions they went out of their way to help with special needs even in the middle of the night.
I can't wait to return. Casa mexican is a real "casa" = home.

The hotel offers a great ocean view rooms. The room I had a partial view of the ocean. Everday the staff wanted to know how and what you did and was willing to help anyway they can. The pool was the size of a big bath tub.I've never seen a pool this small. The bar is rarely open. My favorite bar was on the street it was nice all it had was some table and chairs outside. The hotel is downtown so all bars are with in walking distance. It has a good location. The bars and clubs stay open till about midnight . The nightlife here is no longer here Playde carmen has a nice nightlife. The ferryboat that goes their but stops at 9pm.This island caters to the cruise passengers. When the boat doesn't stop their you feel that the island is closed.

The service was amazing! The staff was very helpful and friendly. The hotel is constantly being cleaned! You can eat off the floors! If you're looking for a beachfront property Do Not Stay Here. This hotel is right in the heart of the town, near restaurants, plaza, shopping, rental cars, grocery store, etc...It's perfect for scuba divers. The beds are very comfortable and the room has a safe and fridge. The breakfast buffet is great! The hours are very convinient 7-11am. You can have a hearty breakfast and that will hold you off till dinner. Buy groceries at the Mega Mart (like a Walmart) it's just 2-3 blocks to the right when you come off the escalators of the hotel. What I liked most was the wonderful staff (Jose, Adriana, Raquel, Flor)

Just got back from a week at the Casa Mexicana in Cozumel. This was our 4th visit. The good news is that nothing much has changed. We have always appreciated the clean modern feel of the hotel. The breakfast buffet continues to be a banquet that has something new and interesting every day. They continue to use white cloth napkins and table cloths. All of this maintained by the same congenial staff. The cleaning staff continue to amaze with their towel creatures. Every day when you return to your room, you will find a new towel creature waiting for you. The only change we noticed was that the rooms have been updated with large flat screen televisions.

The hotel is within walking distance of many dive operators. It is only a few short steps to hop on the boat with Aqua Safari. Thanks to tripadvisor, we were able to locate a number of great new restaurants that are also within walking distance. If you are in Cozumel, you need to plan at least one evening at the Kinta restaurant. The new restaurants are as good as anything you can find in the Caribbean.

This is not a beach hotel and not a pool hotel. If you are looking for a place with sand and a beach, this is not it. We love to dive every day and come back to the hotel to relax. All of the rooms come with comfortable balconies. If you get an ocean-view room, your balcony is the perfect place to relax in the afternoon. Not too much sun, so it does not get hot. If you can get a room on the top floor, you have the best place in the city to watch the sunset. Add a little wine and you have a very romantic spot at about 5:30.

The only criticism would be the internet service. They do have a computer room off the main lobby. There is good wifi in the lobby. They have added wifi transmitters on every floor but with limited success. I was able to connect to email in the room but had trouble getting online most of the time. They seem to continue to improve their service so maybe next year I will be able to get email on my touch while drinking a cold Sol beer on the balcony.
