Staff were wonderful. The room was as nice as any in the states, and the breakfast, each day was fresh and a great way to start the day. The view of the cruse ships was beautiful, but the crowds downtown leave a little to be desired, makes you plan you outings after the Cruise guest leave. Dove with Cristina Roman, a private dive entrepreneur, a 42'boat with shade, great lunch on board each day, personalized attention without a crowd, above and below the water. Nature has started to heal itself, down below, but we visit 3x a year, and could see the damage. The critters are still there in abundance, more eagle rays, turtles, and parrot fish than we had ever seen. The shoreline going out is warzone like, the island was severly traumatized, but the people have done an unbelievable recovery job and are continuing to do more. WE HAD NEVER FELT SO APPRECIATED.

Loved the staff. great rooms a little noisy in the am when setting up for breakfast. But it is worth it.
Would go back any time.

First of all, I would like to say how much my family and I enjoyed our trip to Cozumel. We stayed in Cozumel for 2 and a half weeks. We had also spent a few days in Playa del Carmen and comparing it to Cozumel, Cozumel was our favorite. The people are kind, helpful, and genuine. The atmosphere, the location, the quiet pace of this island was so wonderful.

During our stay in Cozumel, we stayed at a wonderful hotel, Casa Mexicana. We had arrived 2 months after the hurricane Wilma hit the island. There was a lot of damage that happened here. The trees were bare, but new leaves were growing back, and the hotels were damaged, some completely ruined. Casa Mexicana had some damage done to it during the storm and when we arrived there were men and women working hard to put the hotel back to normal. By Christmas, everything was completed. The escalator was working, the pool filled back up and the walls painted fresh. You could tell that no expense was too big to put this place back to normal.

What made our stay even more enjoyable were the employees. For breakfast, our host Jaime, who was such a kind and helpful person, and the waiters; Jimmy, who was also very nice and friendly and Fransisco, who always had a big smile. The food was terrific! Fruits (watermelon, papayas, pineapple), cheeses, breads, cereals and then a hot breakfast of Mexican plates. Good coffee too!

The rooms were very nice and always very clean. It was always fun to walk in your room with a different animal made from towels on your bed. The airconditioning was nice to have some nights, when it was hot and humid. We had an ocean view room which made it even better! (it's worth paying the extra 25$ for an ocean view room) Waking up every morning and watching the cruise ships and boats pass by on that turquoise water was quite a sight to see!!

If you're planning on going to Cozumel, here is a list of things that my family and I had done during our stay and places we ate:
-Cozumel musuem was very interesting! Good restaurant on the roof with a great view.
-We went to the San Gervasio ruins of Cozumel. We had gone during the morning, when there weren't many tourists
-The beaches!-Mr Sancho's was a nice spot and we also went parasailing there (which is quite expensive-50$US per person for 15 minutes in the air)
-if you keep driving past all the beach clubs, there are beaches where we went the majority of the time, because we usually had the beach to ourselves which was nice
-for shopping go to Los Cinco Soles!! great stuff there and a nice restaurant in the back. it's also good to go off the beaten path for your shopping. The prices in the shops on the main road off the pier, usually go up when the cruise ships come in.
Restaraunts:
-La Choza (good food, nice atmosphere!)
-La Mission
-Palmeras (good food, nice atmosphere, open resto with nice view of the water!!)
-Pepe's (fancy, expensive, good food)
-Guido's (really nice restaraunt, great atmosphere-sit outside if you can get a spot)

Other things to see is Chichen Itza!! Wow!! That was amazing! We took a ferry ride from San Miguel to Playa del Carmen to meet up with our guide. It was 2 1/2 hour ride to get there and stayed at a hotel outside of the site. It's best to go early in the morning to beat the crowds.

Anyways, I might be getting a little off the subject about the hotel, but just wanted to share with you our great trip to Cozumel. From a rating of 1 to 10, our stay was a 15!! Great hotel! I recommend it for families, groups or couples. It's a quiet, clean, beautiful, modern and great employees working there. Hope this review helped you out a little! Have a good trip!!

Just stayed at the CM the week before Christmas, and was very impressed. Actually, there were some issues with our stay, but considering it was only weeks after Hurricane Wilma attacked Cozumel, I can only give them 5 stars for what they had achieved in that short time.

The rooms were spacious, very clean and the best part was the A/C was meat locker quality. We had oceanviews on the 4th and 5th floors, up away from the street noise.
The included hot buffet breakfast was delicious and presented as well as any buffet I've been to at any hotel. The staff was very helpful and professional.

Best part was that we dove with Christi at BlueXTsea diving, I can't praise her dive op enough. We were just about a block from the pier and she picked us up at every morning right on time. No taxis to the Caleta or another pier. Very convenient, walk home to a warm shower after a day of fabulous Cozumel diving.

Christi recommended the Casa Mexicana to us, and she set the whole thing up for us. Full service from a great person and great dive op. We'll go back to the Casa Mexicana and certainly to BlueXTsea.

(the pool was not repaired during our visit, and there was construction noise going on all around us during the day, but we were out diving. On the last day the power was cut off to facilitate a major repair of an adjoining property. Once again, considering what they just went through, I was very impressed)

we arrived at casa mexican for our honeymoon on oct 18. the next day we were supposed to dive with aqua safari, but wilma had strengthened to a category 5 overnight, and bill at aqua safari suggested we head inland, so we took his advice and checked out of casa mexicana and headed inland to club med coba (see review there). fernanda aguirre at casa mexicana was very helpful in aiding our evacuation of the island, calling ahead to the hotel in coba and setting up a car rental for us.
casa mexicana was very clean and in a great location to walk around downtown. the breakfast buffet was very good. the only bad thing was that the escalator from the street to the 2nd floor lobby was not working, so we had to lug our luggage up the stairs.
when we return to cozumel, casa mexicana will be at the top of our list (unless we decide to go AI).

I really enjoyed my 4 day stay at Casa Mexicana. The hotel was very clean, the rooms were fresh and updated. The breakfast buffet was very good; an assortment for just about anybody. This is a great place if you just want to relax. If you're into the pool scene, this is not the place. There's a very small pool, mainly for cooling off.

I really don't have anything negative to say about Casa Mexicana.

I'll be sure to come back.

My business associates and I stayed here 9/21/05 - 9/26/05. It is a newer hotel in excellent condition, and conviniently located on the main strip in the middle of town. They have a great breakfast buffet which was included with our rooms..There is no restaurant here, but there are plenty outside the hotel... There is one very small bar here, not too exciting.... Beds are a bit hard, but the linens are nice. The air conditioning isn't super cold, but if you leave it on all day you'll arrive to a cool dry room in the evening. The people who work here are very nice... The telephone rates are very expensive but nothing like the $7 per minute rates you'd see in Cancun..... There are computers with broad band internet access for guests in the lobby, so you can check your email. There is one very small pool in the lobby, nice for a quick dip but pretty lame if you're coming here for an all out vacation.....and there is no beach here.

I highly recommend this for the business traveler, those visiting the town, and those who could do without beach access or a decent sized pool.
