I love to explore the out of the way spots when on vacation. This was the perfect place. We booked the tour on-line and prepaid $10 a person. You need a taxi to get there, ours was willing to return after the hour tour. Make sure you know what you will pay in advance. I would consider this a class more than a tour. Joshua, the owner, gave a wonderful history lesson about how chocolate came to be, complete with many artifacts. Then it was off to make our own from the bean itself. My husband and 17 year old daughter loved it. When all was done, we tasted our final product (which we got to take with us) and many of Kaokao's creations, which were available for purchase. I do not recommend this for small children, as I stated this is more of a class than a tour.

We booked this tour online. When we arrived at the port, we took taxi to KaoKao. It costed $10 for 4 of us. Their is no meter in the taxi so you have to ask the fare before you get in. They take total advantage of tourist. It is a known practice. The chocolate tour is not really a tour. It is full of history and you do get hand on experience to make your own chocolate. Joshua is the owner and he is the perfect guy to show you around. He makes the chocolate bar daily. The 2012 special edition one tasted so good but it was sold out when we went there in the afternoon. It was too bad for us. Joshua called taxi for us to get back to the cruise port. It costed us another $10. We had been to Cozumel twice. This time we did something different and was totally worth it.

This was a really cool tour, which took you from the discovery of the Cocoa pod to the chocolate we find on our shelves today. The owner is a classic entrepreneur, with a very interesting story. He is a great guide, and keeps you entertained throughout the hour. For the price, and the small time commitment, it is definitely worth doing on Cozumel. We had plenty of time afterwards to go to the beach and explore. One warning, it is somewhat expensive, considering how inexpensive the tour is, to get a taxi there and back. I would recommend sharing a taxi if possible.

We spent a day in Cozumel while staying in Playa del Carmen. This was by far the highlight of the trip. Joshua made the tour fun. He has a great sense of humor and teaches you the history of chocolate in Mayan history. Highly recommend this tour. Very reasonably priced and well worth the trip. Thanks Joshua for a great day.

You'll feel like family when you tour this small chocolate factory. Joshua and his wife Mary know their chocolate and not only teach you about how it is made but also the history of chocolate. For such a small facility it was a great experience with history, hands on chocolate making, and tasting! And for $10 per person this is the best activity in Cozumel. They have a small gift shop, comfortable covered area to wait, and will even call a taxi for you. This is one to not miss!
