We recently traveled on NCL to Central America with our last stop in Cozumel. We were not looking forward to Cozumel as we had been to the island before and was not impressed by any means, of their land or water tours. Much to our surprise it was the best excursion of the entire trip.
At the last minute we changed our tour to the 12 meter regata sailing. Wow! You've seen movies where they were sailing and the boats near on its side close the water on one side with the wind taking the sail....that was us! We were really experiencing sailing.
The crew was experienced, but you were the crew also. Each person is assigned a job on the boat. These are actual sail boats from the original Americas Cup the owner had recently in St Thomas and brought them to Cozumel Island (not the main land).
We raced against another boat, sailing in the wind through the ocean about 5 laps. The rush of the experience getting to the starting line and then the finish line was awesome.
We've been on more than 20 cruises and the trip to Central America on NCL was the worst we have ever been on. The only saving grace for the entire trip was this excursion. We are active and love the water. Go, you'll never have a better time in any other port. You'll be sailing for at least 3 hours.
