Chankanaab offers a great variety of activities that make for an interesting day. You can snorkel to your hearts content and see all kinds of sea life....just like swimming in an aquarium as the fish will swim right up to you (apparently some people have been feeding them although this is prohibited). Thatched beach "umbrellas" allow some protection from the sun. You can swim with dolphins if that is your thing, or explore some of the "tacky" tourist shops or tequila tasting. Heavily visited by cruise ship passengers so if you're staying in Cozumel recommend you get there early to stake out some loungers and some shade. An easy taxi ride from the ferry terminal or most resorts on the west shore. There is food for purchase or (apparently) you can bring your own as we packed drinks and sandwiches and noone seemed to care. If you are renting snorkeling gear I think there is some room to negotiate price.....the going rate seemed to be $10 for mask/snorkel/fin and flotation. If you're renting multiple sets recommend you negotiate a package price. Plan on spending at least 4-5 hours or more to fully enjoy everything there is to do (bring plenty of sunscreen!).
