“Great Place/Great Setting”
Reviewed July 11, 2014

My husband and I have gone to Cozumel numerous times over the last 20 years. This was the best resort on the island that we have stayed. The rooms are comfortable. We slept well on the beds, enjoyed the showers and absolutely loved walking the paths and seeing all the peacocks loose on the grounds and the flamingos near the walk to the dining hall. It was also a treat seeing the yellow headed parrot in the lobby. This was the friendliest parrot I have ever seen and it was gentle with children. The food was a bit better than average in the buffet and the speciality restuarants were good. The staff was friendly and helpful. I had fun learning to shoot a bow and arrow even though most of my competitors were quite a bit younger than I. - My husband and I had to go on snorkeling tours to enjoy the coral reefs and beautiful fish since the hurricane of approx. 5 years ago played havoc with the reefs that used to run along the shore. Luckily the next door neighbor to this resort offers excellent snorkeling tours at a reasonable cost! - This hotel attracks an international crowd and we enjoyed meeting so many wonderful people! -My recommendation and the great pictures I took while at the Iberostar inspired my daughter and her finance to the point they are at the Iberostar in Cozumel now!

As is always the case with Iberostar properties the grounds are well kept and natural. I would score them high in this area.
The accomodations are ok and meet your basic needs. They are very clean but far from great. The food although plentiful is really not that great but we always managed to find something. However, we opted to go to town nearly every night and eat at some local (very local) hot spots that were fantastic in comparison. Please note that the Ibersostar is one of the furthest hotels from town and the taxi fairs are not negotiable and expensive. For a small van with up to 4 people it was $20 each way. The same van with 6 people was $40 each way. Yes $40 for a 12 mile ride. You gotta love mexico!
A few more areas to note. The staff other than those at the front desk were great! Friendly and always willing to take care of your needs. The front desk staff were burned out, rude and lacking the perspective of service in a tourist environment. They litterally were unmotivated and unable to resolve even the smallest of issues.
Dressel dive shops manages not just the diving headquarters but the dock and all sailboats and wind surfers. This is a rediculous monopoly that the management should do something about. if you get a sail boat you only have it for one hour which barely gives you time on the water. Their dive boats take 20 plus divers at a time and the focus is on revenue not experience. In fact, if a small outfit (which caters to experience)wants to pick up a guest at the hotel they are not able to pull up to the dock unless they pay Dressel's a $80 per month fee. If they try and get to the dock the dive shop staff run out to collect from them. The alternative leaves the Iberostar guests walking across the rocks to get to the boat. This is very unsafe and shows a lack of appreciation for the guests safety. In general I would give the hotel a strong average score.

Room Tip: If you are in a two story building you can hear the top floor dragging furniture around on the tile...

Dear client,

Thank you for having chosen IBEROSTAR Cozumel for your latest holidays.

We are delighted that you enjoyed the beautiful layout as well as the friendliness of the staff.

Please accept our apologies for the lacking experience you had with the Front Desk, we will take corrective measures in this area without further delay.

We are sorry about your disappointment and we thank you for the opportunity you have given us to explain how the charge of the pier works and why it is done.

The charge to external companies depends on the amount of people that they move from our hotel and absolutely all dive and tour companies on the island are aware of this, as this has been the practice for 3 years. Under no circumstance do we charge our guests, as they are free to use our facilities.

The companies that come to our property and pay this fee, also undergo a revision of their legal status by us. That also includes the company that is currently operating in our facilities, which is also an external company (Dressel Divers). We request their permits, insurance and overall legal paper work; so that we know they have everything in order with the local authorities and comply with safety regulations. Some companies do not have insurance and it is essential to make sure of that in the event of an accident with our mutual clients. Also, they must comply with certain environmental regulations, as the hotel is located inside the national marine park and is also Green Globe certified, and it is one of our obligations to ensure that everyone that operates in the area follows such regulations.

We hope the situations outlined above did not tarnish your experience and it would be our pleasure to host you again.

Best regards,

Quality Manager

They have awesome shows and activities for kids. The lack of room service and subpar buffet is not good. Staff basically says "you get what you get" would not even refill our mini fridge with water and drinks.

beautiful place and very friendly staff but the beds are extremely uncomfortable, the showers flood the bathrooms and the food is the exact same thing everyday for lunch and dinner and not that great. The hairdryers in the room only blow cold air so it is hard to dry your hair.

Dear client,

We would like to thank you for having stayed at our hotel recently and sharing your opinion with us via this medium.

We are delighted that you enjoyed the beautiful layout as well as the friendliness of the staff. We will share your comments with all the staff to encourage them, as they are clearly on the right path.

We are sorry to find out that you considered the bed to be uncomfortable. We are in the process of changing all our mattresses. Unfortunately you were not able to enjoy those as yet. In any case, we have foam mattresses upon request, who our Housemaids will be happy to supply for your comfort. The hairdryers in the rooms are supposed to blow hot air. If we are made aware of any equipment malfunction, our maintenance team quickly fixes them whenever possible.

Please accept our heartfelt apologies for not fulfilling your expectations due to the issues in the room mentioned above as well as the variety of food. Rest assured that we will keep working on these areas to ensure our guests have the best experience.

It would be an honour for us to host you again.

We were originally booked at the Allegro Cozumel but could only stand one night out of our ten. Funjet/Lomas Travel (Martin and Jose) did everything to find us another hotel and they succeeded.
From the moment we pulled up and the bellboy took our cases we knew we were going to have a super time. Basically they couldn't do enough for us.
Thank you Miguel (reception) for all your help in sorting out rooms together for my family and for all the additional help you provided. I have never been so impressed with hotel staff.
If you are a diver the hotel's dive shop is very nice and my son went on a night dive which he loved. If you have young kids the sea isn't kid friendly. Don't get me wrong the beach is lovely. Tons of shade and nice sand but the sea is very rocky (take water shoes). However if you go to the end of the pier there are steps into the sea and you can snokel and see an amazing amount of fish.
If you want a relaxing vacation in Cozumel in a clean and friendly hotel look no further.
My only two negative points would be 1. the al carte restaurants. There are only three and I would recommend the Mexican and Steak, both of which the food could be better (also if the Mexican states mandatory long pants why are some men in shorts) and 2. the continuous loud mexican music played most of the day around the pool.
However with this being said I would still return to this hotel. Thank you for a great vacation.

Room Tip: All the rooms are basically exactly the same (very nice) but I would recommend staying in the single...

Dear guest,

Thank you for your delightful review.

We are glad that you were able to experience IBEROSTAR Cozumel and had a great first impression of our bellman and Front Desk Manager Miguel. We will definitely congratulate them for a job well done.

Thank you for pointing out your less favorable aspects of your experience as well. Regarding the Mexican restaurant, long pants are no longer mandatory therefore you will see gentleman in shorts as well. Please accept our apologies if this was not explained to you.

Your comment on the music around the pool will be sent to the Entertainment Manager for his consideration.

We hope to welcome you and your family back for another great vacation at our beautiful resort.

Third visit to Iberostar Cozumel (26Jun-3Jul)...and another great stay at this hotel. Same great service, some improvements, and a few minor items. My husband and I enjoyed the diving, relaxing time away from our jobs, and the company of great friends.

Service - Welcome, check-in and every interaction we had with the staff at Iberostar were great.

Room - We were in Bldg 22, near the dive shop Had a minor challenge with the air-conditioning not cooling after we got settled in. Maintenance did repair it and within a couple of hours or so, it was much better. The new mattresses are great and we had no back issues this trip. Housekeeping was wonderful, as always. Everything in our room worked well, but there are some areas that need attention (bathroom door appearance, older blow dryer). Fridge stocked daily. Safe worked well, but does not hold the Ipad.

WiFi - Still a paid service, but now works in the room and even on the beach, if needed.

Grounds - Beautiful and tranquil. The grounds staff works very hard and it shows. Love to see the wildlife and gatos.

Activities - we kayaked, but didn't participate in any other activities this time. Walked the grounds and beach for exercise. I wish there were yoga mats and a yoga area on premises (vs.trying to make do with the exercise mats).

Food -- Generally, very good but we did notice that the quality level seems to have decreased a bit here & there from our last trip. Quite a bit more use of sauce on many dishes. We always found something satisfying and found our usual favorites (Hello guacamole, fresh fruit, and ice cream). I wish there was a bit more plain chicken breast at the lunch buffet. Lots of Americanized food (chicken nuggets, burgers, hot dogs, etc) at lunch. We did eat in the Mexican restaurant this trip, and highly recommend it. Did not make the steakhouse this trip.

Drinks - We don't drink very much (especially while diving). Drinks and drink service very good.

Pool - The pool area was crowded for most of our trip. We are not pool people, so did not participate.

Beach - No problems getting a palapa. Loungers generally in good shape. There is some construction going on next to the resort, so at times it got noisy. Not the resort's fault.

Entertainment - The Star Friends are still hard at work. We didn't make any of the shows because they start too late for us. We did visit the lobby in the evenings before dinner. Travelers who are seeking an active night scene will need to go to town.

Diving - We dove 5 days this trip. Crowded this time, so lots of divers. The only minor item - unusual currents for this trip made sticking to the standard dive locations a challenge. We really like the Dressel op and look forward to diving with them again very soon.

To summarize -- This is not a party resort although some large groups this trip did their best to make it so. This is quiet family resort, suitable for couples as well. It is a great resort and value, with kind and friendly staff. There are some minor items to be addressed here & there, but nothing that would break your vacation. Definitely recommend for divers. We will be back very soon!

On behalf of the Manager and the whole IBEROSTAR Cozumel team, we would like to thank you for choosing our beautiful property once again for your well deserved vacation.

It is fantastic that you were able to enjoy the recently upgraded mattresses as well as the WIFI which now covers the majority of the property. We just returned from a 5 night stay! We had 11 family members in our group and had a great time.

Very welcoming when you first enter. The staff are great and helpful however, we found that the people at the tour desk were not there at times we went to ask questions. And front desk were not able to
Help. I've stayed at many resorts where the tour desk is open all morning/afternoon. Would be nice to have a list of possible excursions easily available as well.

Accommodations were great. Very clean and up to date. Comfortable with a tropical feel with the hammocks on the balcony. No complaints. We staying in 75 which was the perfect distance from both the lobby and the pool/beach and very quiet.

Pools were great. Try to reserve a spot early if you plan to lounge at the pool all day.

Beach was nice. Rocky so it's not easy to just walk in. We went from
the pier. We heard snorkeling was good around the pier but we were not impressed.

Diving. We dove with scuba shack and have nothing but great reviews for them. They would pick us up in the morning at the iberostar however the iberostar staff had a problem with this. Apparently other dive shops have to pay a monthly fee for stopping at their pier. I understand the reason is probably bc they want us to use their dive shop, dressel divers, but this was quite annoying. We would have paid a daily fee but for a full month is ridiculous especially when they don't come to iberostar often.

Food was a expected from an all inclusive. A lot of different options. However very little variety from day to day. Only a few things switched out. We're not picky about food at all. But I was not impressed with the food they had at this resort. Alberto's is a resturant a few steps down the beach and had amazing food!!! I would highly recommend trying it out.

Discoteca was fun but they need to update their songs!

Overall. We got a very good deal for the hotel/airfare package. However when I go back I would like to try a different hotel and explore the city area more where they had many resturaunts. We went to that area one day and I would have liked to spend more time there. And find a hotel with a nicer beach. We chose iberostar for the closeness to the reefs to dive but next time I would like to try a different hotel.

Dear client,

Thank you for choosing IBEROSTAR Cozumel for your latest family vacation.

We are thrilled that you had a great time and enjoyed the friendliness of the staff as well as our pristine pools and your dive experience. Speaking of which, we would like to clarify the fee for the use of the pier for external companies: since 2011 IBEROSTAR Cozumel has had a fee for external companies (including Dressel Divers) to use our pier which we maintain and have permits for. Under no circumstance do we charge our guests. All dive and tour companies at the island are perfectly aware of this fee, which aims to ensure the security of our guests, since this goes accompanied by our requirement of these companies’ permits and legal paper work; so that we know they have everything in order with the local authorities and the compliance of safety regulations. We assure you IBEROSTAR Cozumel is not the only hotel that charges to use their dock to external companies. It is common practice to ensure the safety of our tourists.

Thank you as well for pointing out the variety of our food selection, we are sorry that you were not impressed with day to day changes. We will forward your comments to our Executive Chef who works tirelessly on supervising, creating and improving the culinary offerings for our clients.

We hope we will be given the opportunity once again of hosting you.
