If you read "how it is" from 1/25/14 review it is spot on. We loved our "cool" room, even though the bed was hard. Asked for a cushion and it was fine. The air conditioning worked better than anywhere I have been, always the perfect temp. Musty smell gone day one. Rooms needed a comfortable place to sit. Was disappointed in paying near $40 for wifi. We thought the help was very good, honest and friendly, rooms very clean. Everyone seemed to leave items out and nothing stolen. Food is mostly buffet so . . . its buffet. Still not bad. Biggest negative, if you want a walk-out beach, its not here. There is a rocky corral waterfront, good for snorkeling, but not beach swimming. One big pool with good area for children. At least you know where they are. A little competition for chairs but not a crowded feeling.
Best part, dive here! Dressel Divers were outstanding instructors! Thanks Tyler. You can fully be certified in 3 days, inexpensively. Many diving voyages at various times and a spectacular reef.
If you go to town be prepared to be haggled. Just ignore and go where you want. There is a small dress shop where they are making the dresses as you watch. Priced $10-$30!!
Overall, not a place for pampered, picky people, but still beautiful, sunny and 85. And so much to do at resort and around the island.

Room Tip: Get a room near dive shop if you dive.

Dear Guest,

On behalf of all the staff and particularly the management at the Iberostar Cozumel we like to thank you for your complete review.

We are pleased to read that you liked the rooms. It is gratifying to read that you had a great time with our employees; we will congratulate them for making you feel at home.

In regards to your comments about the beach being a little bit rocky we would like to clarify that as we are located near the reefs in the south part of the island and are actually part of the national marine park, the hotel cannot change nor do any modifications to this as it is a natural protected area. However, we offer a ladder in our pier to make it more accessible for our guest. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause and hope to have explained ourselves correctly.

You can be sure all your comments are very important to us and we definitely work on the ones we can change and improve.

We look forward to your next visit in Cozumel!

Best Regards,

We just returned from our 7 night stay at Iberostar Cozumel. There are many great things at this resort so if you've already booked, don't worry too much. :-) This review will be based on prior vacations to Mexico and the let down we personally experienced. Overall the grounds and rooms were everything we hoped for, jungle-like setting with personal huts scattered throughout. Sadly our biggest let downs came from the food, restaurants, drinks and overall procedure. I read everything possible on the Iberostar website, hopefully I'm not blind but I had no idea that we could only make 2 dinner reservations at the specialty restaurants when staying 7 nights. The buffet while large got old incredibly fast and it really disheartened the group to find our choices so structured and not fun. There is no room service and we found ourselves without an open place to eat multiple times throughout the week. I would consider the drinks average at best while some of the bartenders are great, many of the bars only have limited stock which forces you to drink bottom shelve liquor.

I am the kind of person that eats anything and everything so I hope people read this review with the understanding that I am not difficult to please. We didn't appreciate only being able to order one entree at all of the restaurants even when 5 small shrimp on a skewer would never fill up a former college offensive lineman. This could be the very first time on any vacation that I come home lighter than when I left.

We loved the wildlife and cats roaming the grounds. The hard mattress actually wasn't that bad for us and didn't even need the mattress topper. I requested an upper room but received a lower, it didn't smell moldy at all, more tropic and pool smell.

Overall, Iberostar delivered a decent vacation for the money. We will likely never go back but I can see why some people love it so much.

Room Tip: We loved our location close to the pools and ocean. Overall I don't think any room would be a ba...

Dear Customer,

Thank you for taking the time to share your valuable feedback regarding your stay at Iberostar Cozumel.

We are pleased to read that you liked the settings and surroundings as well the rooms, and the wild life such as flamingos, iguanas, turtles, parrots, cats and so on.

We deeply regret the incident you experienced in our food and beverage area. We would like to let you know that we are working and taking this matter extremely seriously as we always strive for service excellence. You can be certain we will work to improve for you and for the rest of our guests.

In reference to the dinner reservations we would like to tell you that our rules about the dinner reservations are well known by all the travel agencies that work with us, although it is true that upon check in you should have been given all the necessary hotel information again, let me assure you that we are very flexible with this rules and if we have any spaces left in the afternoon we offer them our guest who want to come for a third or fourth time to our restaurants. We regret the misunderstanding.

We hope to be honored to welcome you back in the future at Iberostar Cozumel to prove to you our commitment with guests’ satisfaction.

We travel to Mexico at least once a year. My husband scuba dives and I am the beach person. We love staying here. Dressel divers are great and the dock is right at the resort. The staff is always so friendly and helpful. The bungalow type rooms make it more appealing. The food is generally good for an all inclusive. Fredie at the beach bar is great and will mix whatever drink you ask for, always with a great smile. Marcela at the reception desk is exceptional. If there is something you need, she will get it for you. I needed something from a pharmacy and asked how close one was, she immediately called the pharmacy and had what I needed delivered to the hotel within the hour, she goes out of her way to make your stay pleasant. A lot of the staff is still there from all the years we have been here. I think that tells you how dedicated they are to this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a mattress pad, it makes the bed more comfortable

- Hotel quality did not meet anywhere near our expectations for 5 star hotel.
-- Hotel rooms smells and AC does not help with the smell. All the clothes are now smelly after the stay and even several rounds in the laundry machine does not help.
-- Rooms are small and only for sleeping. You do not want to spend time in your room other than when you sleep. There were couple rainy days during our stay and hotel does not have many other places than the rooms where you can spend time when it is cold and rainy. Public places only have (leaking) roof with no walls.
-- Star Rock Cafe, food was terrible. When we got our dish it was already cold. It looked like it was taken from the next door bufet restaurant which was disappointing. We could have prepared better meal from buffet.
-- There were animals (cats and birds) in the restaurant which was not that nice. Not good for your appetite if you see bird stealing food from the buffet table
-- Reception services were not polite and if we had any problems with our room, we needed to remind them several times to get it fixed. We got the impression that our complaints were not logged at all.
-- Rooms would need quick renovation and update as now they are not good for your health.
-- Beach is rocky and not for swimming and beach games.

+ Star Friends with all their activities, shows and good attitude were the best that this hotel had to offer.
+ Water is very clear and you can go to snorkeling trip from the hotel peer.

Dear Client,

Thank you for choosing to stay at the Iberostar for the recent holidays you spent in Cozumel.

We are glad to read that you enjoyed the service and the activities that the star friends offer to our clients as well the snorkeling in our pier where you can encounter many fish and sea life as we are close to the most beautiful reefs.

In regards to your comments about the beach we apologize if this caused you any inconvenience but the hotel cannot change the entrance as we are part of the national marine park and it a natural protected area. However, we offer a ladder in our pier to make it more accessible for our guests.

In reference to the food we are sorry to read that we did not meet your expectation, our executive chef works hard to keep improving and providing excellent food. However you can be sure we will share your comments with him in order to enhance the variety and quality of the food in the different restaurants.

Regarding the rooms’ smell it is true that during rainy season the humidity can be really strong and a lot higher, therefore our housekeeping department applies some chemicals products in the rooms to avoid this kind of inconveniences to our guest, this are non-toxic and eco-friendly.

Regarding the cats in the resort, we would like to mention that here in Iberostar Cozumel we are part of the “Cat Café Program”, were we take also care of the cats in house, to have them under control, sterilized and vaccinated to keep a safe environment for them and most importantly, for our guests. As you saw in the different restaurants we have net to keep the birds and cats away from the restaurants, however they sometimes manage their way in or even guests let them in. We apologize if this caused any inconvenient.

We hope we were able to clarify what happened without trying to excuse ourselves. We really hope you can give us the chance to serve you again in the future.

Kind Regards,

Quality Manager

Our week of holidays was fabulous. The entertainers, Daniel, Irving, Fabiola and others were some of the best shows we have ever seen. There was a lady who sang Beauty and the Beast... Her name was Judy but it wasn't written like this. She had the voice of an angel. We had no complaints...food was good, our smurf house (that is the name we gave it) was clean and cozy. The swim up bar was great and so where the bartenders. We would go there again. The cleaning ladies were nice...she left us the kind of beer we requested.

Room Tip: The main floor was great. There is really no bad spot.

This was our 2nd time to this hotel and been there from January 25 to the 1st of febuary. Same great place! the food was good, the rooms are nice and clean as for the grounds. The staff people are nice and always smiling. What i like of this hotel is that it's small so you are close to everything and there are no high buildings but little huts.

The beach hasn't change... still rough! so if you like to go swiming by entering in the water from the beach, you better put water shoes and have a partner to hang on too! lots of stuff to see under the dock...lots of fish, i even saw a small lion fish there! nudibranch and more!

We also went diving but not with the Dressel that are there, but with a friend from our corner of the world (Quebec) that now works in Cozumel. We had to get in the boat by entering the water cuz the Hotel would charge 55 per month even if we are there 1 week to the boat to have permission to bring the boat at the dock! I found that a bit too much!

All in all, this is a great hotel, but mosty for divers since the beach is very rocky. Will be going back again for sure even if we have to take the boat from the water!

Room Tip: Small hotel with small grounds, so you are close to everything

Dear Customer,

On behalf of the general manager we like to thank you for your loyalty to the Iberostar Cozumel hotel and for the kind words expressed in your review.

It was a pleasure to have served you for the second time and to read that you really feel at home with us, as you mentioned the hotel is really small and all the services are really close to each other, his is a great advantage!

It is true that the shore in the beach can be a little bit rocky as we are located near the reefs and inside the natural marine park of Cozumel, therefore the hotel cannot change the entrance but we have a ladder in the pier to make it easier for to our guests’ to get to the ocean.

Regarding the boats that enter our pier we do charge 55 usd, this is due to internal procedures of the marine park as they need all the documentation to keep up with the local legal standards. We regret the inconvenients this may have caused you.
We hope to see you again in the near future in Iberostar Cozumel!

My husband and I booked our vacation at the Iberostar Cozumel because we knew it was a reputable chain. We were well aware that it wasn't going to be as fancy as a Secrets or Dreams, but we are not fancy people, so we did not have unrealistic expectations. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived, as the resort is beautiful! Yes, it is a little older and the buildings could use a little tlc, but the grounds and the overall look of the resort is so lush and pretty. The rooms are fairly simple, and had a really nice bathroom. It had all of the amenities that you could need or want. One of the only things we were disappointed with was the bed, it was a lot harder than what we are used to, but after the first night we were used to it.
The beach is beautiful, and the sunsets are amazing. It's true that it is not easy to just walk into the water from the beach, as it is quite rocky, but the pier has a ladder that you can easily walk down into the water that takes you only up to your waist. It is also really nice that there is a bar right on the beach and there is always someone walking around taking drink orders too.
The food was really good. Their guacamole is amazing! We read a lot of reviews on Trip Advisor where people were complaining about the food, their complaints were that the buffet was the same every day and that there was mouldy bread... Really, the buffet is huge... Yes, they did tend to have a lot of the same choices at each meal, but they probably make a lot of the same stuff every day because that's what the people are eating, so if we like it, then they are going to keep making it. As for the bread, it was always fresh (no mould). We did notice that each night they changed the theme of the main course options, one night was Italian, the next was Chinese... And really, lets be honest, it's a buffet... when was the last time you went to a buffet that was completely different every meal... I know that doesn't happen at home. Also, there are so many things to chose from, make a point to try something different each day, then you won't get bored.
We booked 2 excursions while we were on the island, one was the Polaris safari around the island (we had a jeep) and the other was the 3-reef snorkel. The snorkelling was amazing! If we had have done that one earlier in the week, we would have booked it twice. The Polaris one was ok, there were just too many people.
Overall our vacation was wonderful and we would definitely go back.
