This was our second trip to Iberostar we were there twelve years ago. The resort was just like we remembered the grounds much more plush. Only a few things that could use some improvement were cushions on pool chairs and beach. And food was no where as good as we remember maybe time for new chef.Staff were all GREAT and always happy to help. All and all we will go back!!!

Room Tip: If your a diver ask to be close to dive shop

I have been to this resort for my 10th trip and as usual I loved my stay. The resort is far from town which I like because it is so close to the prime diving areas. The only complaint I have is the wifi is so slow. Can't wait to go back in January.

We just returned from our first visit to Cozumel and we are looking forward to returning. This is written from the perspective of a professional couple who went on vacation mostly to relax, recharge and maybe get some snorkeling in.

First, the grounds are magnificent. It is not a traditional hotel, but rather a grouping of cottages, some one story and some two story. The facilities are spread out over the grounds and you can access them easily from most rooms. There are iguana and peafowl wandering freely, some parrots and a pack of pink flamingos in a pond near the lobby. A couple visiting from the mainland Iberostar commented how much nicer our grounds and hotel appeared than theirs.

We very much enjoyed the various options for lounging. There were palapas (thatched huts) at the beach, as well as numerous palms providing shade. By the pool, the deck chairs were plentiful. I have heard, however, that in the high season, competition for these are fierce, but we had plenty to choose from. I struggled with the hammock outside our room, but that's another place to sit, read and maybe nap.

The staff is friendly and helpful and spoke passable English. We had very little trouble communicating. The room was clean and the maid left cute origami towel animals.

There are tour operators and rental cars options in the lobby. We rented a jeep for a day and had a blast driving around exploring. Spend the extra $10-15 and get the full coverage option as the native drivers are a bit, well, crazy. We didn't take an outside tour.

The dive shop people are great. If you want to snorkel, take their package. They will provide everything you need, including a guide and they drop you at two locations. They leave from the dock and it's a short boat ride to the reef. The snorkeling was not the best we've seen, but there was still a good variety of colorful fish, rays, barracuda and the occasional sea turtle.

If you don't want to pay $45 a person for the boat, the Money Bar at Dzul Ha has decent snorkeling right off the beach and serves excellent chips and salsa and cheap beer. It's probably about $35 for a round trip taxi.

I will agree with many other reviewers that the food options seem to cater to the lowest common denominator and sometimes seemed lacking. That said, I always found something that was tasty and appeared to be somewhat locally inspired. The a la carte restaurants were a little better. We ate off property only 2 or 3 times as cabs from the remote location were costly.

The drinks kept flowing. They had some US name brands, but you generally got local well liquors, which was fine since you are likely drinking mixed tropical drinks, not martinis or scotch on the rocks. The bartenders seemed to struggle a bit if the pool bar got crowded.

If we had any complaints, it was that the beds are very, very hard. I adjusted and slept well, more than likely due to alcohol and being drained by the sun and activities. There is also no place to sit comfortably in the room. It has a cafe table, but no love seat or club chair like you find in most hotels.

One last complaint. We went on a nice relaxing vacation as a couple. Granted, this is not an adults only resort (get your mind out of the gutter), but we didn't appreciate the "Star Friends" pestering us daily to play beach volleyball or their poolside dance routines. But that was a personal issue, not a reflection on the staff, which was energetic and friendly and usually took the hint when you declined their invite.

We would definitely return.

This was our 6th stay at the Iberostar in Cozumel. We have always had a great experience. The grounds are meticulously maintained, and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. My only complaint is the beds are a little to firm for my taste. We look forward to our next trip.

My brother and I spent 7 nights at Iberostar Cozumel. Before and after I booked the trip I read many of the reviews by previous guests. Most were very favorable and some were not. So I kind of had an idea what to expect.

The resort setting is beautiful. It's sort of like a hobbit village with the design of the guest buildings. The grounds are manicured with all kinds of tropical fauna. Roaming the grounds are iguanas, peacocks, turtles, and there is a small herd of flamingos which greet you at the lobby entrance. The rooms are smallish, but who goes to a resort like this to stay in the room? The rooms were clean, well supplied, and lots of cool air conditioning.

I read reviews by people who complained about the food. If you can't find some things you like in the buffet then there's got to be something wrong with you. The variety of the food is amazing. Sure there are some items left over from the previous evening's dinner, but who throws away good leftovers? Every meal had more than enough selections to please almost any appetite. (One day at lunch they served a coconut fish which was absolutely delicious.) We went to 2 of the specialty restaurants. They were OK, but nothing to get overly excited about.

The staff were friendly and helpful. Rarely did you ever pass an employee without being greeted. Ruben, Gabrial, and Angie were 3 employees who we got to know. The employees we met seemed to enjoy their jobs.

The resort has a beautiful sandy beach with coconut trees and/or thatched "huts" for shade. Getting in and out of the water from the beach is difficult due to the rocks in the first 20-30 feet from the shore. (The island is made up of limestone so it's going to be rocky.) If you walk down the pier there is a ladder you can use to easily get in and out of the water. There is a steady current in the water. We walked up the beach and went out about 100+ feet to snorkel and we drifted with the current down to the pier. Once you get into about 8 feet of water the clarity is OK. There are a whole flock of fish under the pier, but drifting gives you the chance to see some rays, lots of star fish, mostly sandy bottom creatures. The reef is not far off shore, but too dangerous to snorkel to because of the boat traffic. We did not spend any time in the pool. Why swim in chlorine when the sea is at your disposal? I did use the pool to get to the pool bar on a couple of occasions. There are 2 large round pools separated by the pool bar. I thought the water felt rather warm.

Would I go back to Iberostar Cozumel? In a heart beat! What's not to like? IF there is anything I would add/change it would be some live music at night for dancing/partying. The "Star Friends" put on nightly shows, but a band or dance music would be a good addition.

Room Tip: Buildings 84, 85, 86 are close to the beach and pool. The pool closes early(7:00PM) so there is no loud pool noise at night.
