My boyfriend and I decided to stay at Blue Angel for our 10 day trip to Cozumel in May. We chose this location after spending a lot of time researching the many options available on the island. Initially we considered an all-inclusive, but I'm really glad we didn't go that way because the Blue Angel exceeded all of our expectations. The most important factors influencing our choice and our stay include:

1. ALL rooms have an excellent view of the ocean and sunset (with no extra cost, which was as much as $50 extra per night at some other places). Great Wifi connection, good water pressure, very clean. Stocked fridge in every room and purified water stations on every floor.
2. Breakfast is included and you get to order from a menu of delicious options in the restaurant.
3. The dive shop is outstanding, with fast boats that depart from the dock just steps away from your room (some other dive operators pick-up and drop off at Blue Angel too, so those visitors have to drive to and from the Blue Angel while you just walk out of your room in the morning).
4. The restaurant was great and happy hour contributed to our really low food/alcohol costs overall (Happy hour more than made up for the lack of free booze that is part of other hotel's all-inclusive options). Live music is played EVERY night!
5. FREE AIR and SHORE DIVING! This was a big one for us, as we are just becoming proficient in diving independently and really enjoyed going out on our own in the calm waters directly off of the resort. We encountered a wide variety of ocean life in the immediate area, including many rays and eels. We also observed many happy snorkelers.
6. The location is ideal- close to town, not too far from the dive sites, ocean front (non-sandy) access. You can walk into town and back easily if you don't mind the heat.
7. The staff and other guests were all great. Everyone we encountered was a pleasure to speak with, from the outstanding restaurant, front desk and dive staff, to the other divers with tips and stories about their experience.

Overall, the Blue Angel was an excellent choice for our trip and I look forward to returning to this resort in the future.

I am recently returned from 12 days (5/4 to 5/15) in Cozumel and am starting the process of reviewing the many fine places we ate tasty vittles, drank delicious libations, enjoyed great music & conversation, as well as the various activities we enjoyed so much.

So, having enjoyed another amazing time at Blue Angel Restaurant & Bar on the night of our arrival day on 5/4, the perfect start to my review process is here.

Ambiance: casual and relaxing with a beautiful seaside view, Blue Angel is a great place to catch the sunset and watch waves crash against the shore while enjoying well-prepared cocktails, ice-cold beer and listening to live music set for the tone of the crowd.

Drinks: beer is chilled perfectly to just the right point of frostiness, margaritas are made with fresh juices (freshly squeezed limes, etc.) and quality tequila and there are plenty of top shelf options for those who enjoy drinks served "neat" or "up."

Food: a blend of traditional Yucatecan and/or "standard" Mexican favorites, the food is tasty, generally well-prepared and reasonable even though it is served from a small resort's kitchen. The Cochinita Pibil was good and satisfied a hungry diner, as were also the Fish Tacos. I do not rate Blue Angel as great for its food but it is respectable and the ambiance, drinks & music pick up where the chef leaves off...if you are looking for truly authentic regional Meixcan, taqueria or seafood (aka mariscos) fare, then Blue Angel will not likely satisfy you.

Music: this was the second time we visited Blue Angel on a night when Abraham was playing and he does NOT disappoint! He plays a great variety of English/American 60's/70's soft rock & some bluesy stuff, as well as many Latin soft rock hits...he even played Argentina's Soda Stereo's "Musica Ligera" at my request...one of my favorites! Tip Abraham well, you will want to and he deserves it...really nice!

Overall: a great place to start your vacation or enjoy a nice evening outside listening to Abraham or any other artist likely found there, Blue Angel will not disappoint. You will want to try some other local favorite restaurants and of you truly desire more great local color and flavor, just down the street from Blue Angel (past the lighthouse), try La Caletita del Tio Jose...ask for Jose (if he's around, he is a real pleasure to talk with)...really good food!

We just returned from our 1st experience with your resort and wow what a shock. After reading all the reports from Divers we am truly pleased and amazed. From our 1st day to our last your staff was truly amazing. From the front desk to your dive shop to the hotel support staff we both thank all of you.The Hotel itself is only 22 rooms but that's what makes it so quaint and charming. SImple and efficient. If you love to dive this is the place

Your dive shop was not only run efficiently but supportive to not only new divers like my wife but to anyone at any level. Most of all the boats are fast and not crowed with too many divers as to get in everyone's way, usually only a handful at a time was our experience.

Your food was amazing, check out the Fish Tacos, I ate them every day for a week, wow.

Thank for a truly amazing week: Huitzui, Nora, Maibella, Sergio, ABelardo, Marcos, Isaias, Joge, Andrea, Martin, Matteo, Matjew, and last but not least Eva who runs this fabulous little community and keeps it ticking like a well oiled clock.

Can't wait for our next trip. WOW (-:

Room Tip: Bottom floor are most desirable as there is no out door noise from the street

This was our first time staying with Blue Angel Dive Resort and we loved it! Very family friendly and cost effective. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The staff was more than friendly and very helpful. There was one day that it was too rough to dive and the front desk helped us rent a vehicle to explore the island! The dive school is awesome and the dive masters knowledgeable. We were very comfortable diving-especially with a new teen diver! We will definitely return to Blue Angel-it is our go-to now when we dive in Cozumel!

My girlfriend and I age 29/26 stayed last week and loved it. It is certainly a hotel, not a resort. We didn't feel like we missed much if anything though in opting to not do an all-inclusive and stay at the Blue Angel instead. The on-site restaurant is truly top notch. Get a giant stuffed relleno pepper for dinner! The free breakfast every day was perfect. This is a full breakfast with lots of options! We aren't the "lounging" type so after breakfast we were off to tour the island and mainland. The island is incredibly safe, easy to travel, gorgeous, friendly locals, amazing local authentic food and inexpensive dining. The staff at the hotel is a 5/5, very friendly and helpful. The dive shop is perfect and the dive master (Matt) did an amazing job with my girlfriend while she did her 4 dives required to be certified. I wish I had him when I was learning, I've logged 20 or so dives, and still learned a lot from Matt. The property is small but grounds are clean and well-kept. The location has it's advantages but also possible disadvantages. We liked being out of town but close enough to town that it was only a $6-$8 taxi ride each way. The disadvantage is that the hotel is on the main road and the street noise of cars/trucks/motorcycles at night were sometimes bothersome. We slept well still, but the street noise isn't "ideal". The pool and nice and no one was ever there so the couple times we went, we had it to ourselves. The opportunity to swim at the hotel was not ideal either. Most of cozumels resorts don't have beaches (rocky coastline) but some do still have a break wall with a man made beach and steps leading into the water. I wouldn't stay here if you want to do swimming/beach lounging on the property you choose. However, the free shore diving more than made up for it for us. The equipment rental is free for shore diving including the tanks and air which was cool. However, the shore diving is nothin compared to takin a boat to the reefs. There's also a fairly strong current in front of the hotel which mean's the shore diving is about 75% swimming up current and then turning around and drifting back to the hotel. If you want to be at the beach, just take a cab/moped to paradise beach, or any of the other local beaches. If you rent a moped, walk down the street to tropical island rentals next to the oxxo (away from town). The mopeds are high quality and you can get them for $30-35/day. We found this cheaper and more fun than a car, or paying a taxi back and forth all day. They can rent you a nice jeep too if you're not comfortable with the moped. The girl at the front counter recommended a local taxi driver to give us a tour of the island. I highly recommend this! It worked out great and was a very easy and convenient way to see the whole island with stops in 4-5 hours. At $20/hr, it was a great deal and we found places that we wanted to go back to throughout the week. The tequila tour in el cedral was cool and seeing all the beaches and other spots on the other side of the island was great too. I fell in love with Cozumel and is my favorite island of the 8-10 or so I've been to in the carribbean. Blue angel was a great choice at the price point, and have no regrets about staying there, and would recommend to a friend and family, especially divers! Just be careful the cement floors in the rooms are cool (patterned and smoothed cement) and ideal when you're dragging you're dive equipment out to the balcony to dry, but because the floors are smooth, they can be slippery when wet! I slid once and caught myself thinking "that could have ended poorly".

Room Tip: All rooms have a gorgeous ocean view. 4th story could be a lot of up and down, 3rd story worked great for us.
