If you are looking for The Four Seasons, this is not it! However, if you are looking for a friendly place, where the people know who you are and a glad you are there, by all means choose Blue Angel.
We just returned from our fourth stay at Blue Angel. This place is always like going home for us. You cannot beat the convenience, friendliness, hospitality or relaxing atmosphere of this resort. The hotel is small and quaint. It sits right on the water and all rooms face the blue. A sunset from these balconies is simply breathtaking. The hotel, dive shop and onsite restaurant are all within mere footsteps of each other. Since taking over, Eva has made many changes to the property that have simply made it even better. She is onsite most of the time and is more than willing to engage you personally. The hotel staff are top notch. Huit (pronounced Wit) and the front desk staff are always willing to help in any way. Whether it is finding you a new alarm clock, arranging a rental car or answering tedious questions, they are eager to do it. The two ladies that tended to our room were Trinny and Landy. They were friendly, helpful and absolutely delightful. We enjoyed seeing them every day.
The onsite restaurant is very good and reasonable. When you go there, you must try the Lasagna de Eva. It is delicious. The restaurant staff is very efficient and friendly. One waiter in particular stands out though. His name is Seargio. He will serve, entertain and take personal care of you. He is like family.
Now.....let’s talk diving. I do not have to tell you about the wonderful diving in Cozumel. It is truly one of the world’s underwater meccas. The healthy reef and abundant marine life keeps divers returning year after year. The Blue Angel Dive and Scuba School (B.A.D.A.S.S.) has many fine divers working there. They are always willing to cater to your every need. Our favorite divemaster is Jorge. The man’s grace underwater will simply amaze you. Despite the fact that he has been leading dives for more years than he can count, he is always eager to help with your gear, hunt an elusive splendid toadfish or assist a new diver. This trip we took our 17 year old daughter, so she could earn her open water certification. Her instructor was a fine young man named Juan. He was very knowledgeable, friendly and polite. Our daughter felt very comfortable with him and enjoyed their training time together. He taught her very well and she is hooked! We look forward to many years of diving as a family.
As for the island itself, it is packed full of wonderful and friendly people. At least one day during you stay, rent a car and drive to the other side of the island. You will truly enjoy the beautiful beaches over there. If you go in late October or early November, you can go over there and help them release the baby sea turtles. That is unforgettable.
I would like to apologize if I misspelled any of the staff’s names. I simply wanted to give them the credit they so deserve. I will close by saying if you want a great place to dive and relax, you should put your vacation in the hands of the fine folks at Blue Angel Dive Resort.
