“a little bit of heaven”
Reviewed February 21, 2013

My wife and I were on our last stop before returning to Canada from a months vacation on Caye Caulker, Belize when our neighbor at home e-mailed us she was going the Cozumel. She was going to the Flamingo hotel, so we decided to join her for a couple of days as it coincided with my wife's birthday. This place was perfect for us, the rooms are clean, this staff and owner bent over backwards to help us with all our needs. The location was ideal, three blocks from the ferry, 200 feet from a good steak house and a Cuban restaurant, one block to car rentals, one block off the main street of Cozumel. As I don't do stairs to well, we were on the ground floor, ten feet out our door was our breakfast table (great breakfasts), and thirty feet from the hotel bar ("world famous Mojito's"). Just one example of the help we got here, we went to the main street to catch a horse and buggy ride, just to have a look around, after an hour waiting we gave up and went back to the hotel. The manager, hearing our story, saying he would be right back, climbed on his scooter and was back in a flash, with the price and phone number, if we still wanted to go. We said, yes we would go, in less that ten minutes the carriage was at our door, with the managers instructions to return us to "this very spot" when our ride was done. I don't know what more one could ask for in the way of friendly service. The whole stay was like that, anything they could do, they were more than willing to do. We found out some people have been returning to this place from some 20 years. It is not wonder they return!!

Thanks for staying with us! Yes, I am glad that we were able to get that carriage ride for you so quickly. We have two rooms downstairs that are perfect for people who do not want to do stairs. We hope that we can see you again in the future

We just returned from a visit and were reminded why we keep going back to The Flamingo.

Comfortable rooms, friendly staff, delicious breakfast and interesting guests from around the world. (A nice change from resorts, buffets and surroundings that could be anywhere that palm trees grow.) Plus, this time we discovered that the Flamingo had great relationships with high quality restaurants, car rental agencies and a scuba diving shop. (These were much better than we had found on our own in previous visits.) The day trips they suggested were excellent as well. It was easy to go diving, find a new beach, pool or snorkel location during the day and then come back home to clean up and walk to a new dining location in the evenings.

I've visited with my husband as well as solo and had a great experience each time. The Flamingo Hotel is perfect for those who would like to relax, get to know Cozumel better and make some new friends in the process. We will definitely be back!

For my purposes this was the perfect hotel. This is a small and clean hotel within walking distance from the ferry to Playa del Carmen, shopping and access to all the tours that Cozumel has to offer. It is not on the beach but nothing in Cozumel is very far away. They offer a free continental breakfast that can be upgraded for only a few dollars. Staff were extremely friendly and English-speaking. I recommend this hotel and will stay there again on future pleasure jaunts to Cozumel.

Room Tip: A few travelers have complained that there was no hot water. I didn't have this problem but you...

I stayed here on a birding trip in January 2013. My room was large, clean, and very comfortable. The staff was excellent. They recommended Isis Car Rental, which was only two blocks away, and they too were excellent. This hotel is exactly what I was looking for at an excellent price. The only detraction was that I had a second floor room on the street, the street light was directly outside the window, and the curtain was not sufficient to blot out the light. This was not a serious problem since the light did not shine on the bed, but if light in the room bothers you, you should not take a street-side room on the second floor.

Room Tip: Rooms on second floor street-side have a street light shining through the curtain.

Thank you for your comments. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay at the Flamingo! The room that you had the problem with the light is room #21 and we have already gone ahead and put in a much heavier curtain that will now fully block the light. This is the only room that is affected by the light.

We hope that we can welcome you again in the future!

I stayed at the Hotel Flamingo for a week in early January and had a great time. The hotel is a perfect location to walk to everything. You can walk a few blocks to the square for dinner or a few blocks to the water. This is a not a good hotel if you want to be on the beach, but you are a short taxi ride from great beaches. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. The staff is great and very helpful to schedule day trips or help you rent a bike for a tour of the island. The breakfast and coffee were great in the morning and the the margaritas at the bar were excellent in the evening.
The room was very clean and friendly staff. The only problem was the water pressure was a little low since it is an older hotel. Need to let the water run to warm up. Great little hotel for the money and the location could not be better. I will be back again soon. Thanks Jimena, Tom, and staff for all your help.

Good location, lovely rooms and great value. Nice bar and next door to Al Pie the best steak house we've ever been to.

An easy walk into town but far enough out to be quiet

Thanks to Jimena and Oscar, very helpful and polite staff

Room Tip: Probably best to be higher up and not near the bar

We really enjoyed our visit at this small, upscale yet intimate boutique hotel. The hotel offers a nice bar and small open air restaurant inside the parameters, or one can also eat at the tables placed in front of the hotel on the side walk. The restaurant food is great, the rooms are clean, bright and colorful, the beds are comfortable, and the shower has wonderful hot water. The location offers easy walking access to the town square, car rental agency, money changer, fabulous eateries, and turquoise ocean. The staff is friendly, informative and helpful. We definitely plan on returning as soon as possible!
