“Hurricane Proof”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2005

My daughter and our whole wedding party stayed with you after Emily
ruined our original plans. It was a magnificent time. Everyone worked so hard to repair the town and the hotels, it was heart warming.

We are so sad to know that once again you have been hit by a
hurricane (Wilma.) We have no doubt that you will once again pull
together to offer your guests a wonderful time.

We loved our rooms, the view and most of all the kindness of your
staff. We pray all are safe and well.

I first want to say that I lived on trip advisor before I picked my hotel for our honeymoon. It was very helpful....but I do believe that some people expect to much from Mexico. We stayed at the Coral Princess in August of 2005. I must admit that we didn't stay there our whole honeymoon but we learned our lesson. We first stayed at a hotel in Cancun. It was okay. When we arrived at the Coral Princess we knew we would one come back and two never stay anywhere else. We took the ferry to Cozumel and found that it is much cheaper than Cancun. Our taxi ride was 3 dollars from the ferry to the hotel. We had paid $30 from the airport to the hotel in Cancun, we were surprised. CP is not far from town and was very easy to go back and forth to town without alot of expense. When we arrived we were there before it was time to check in. The receptionist was wonderful and checked us in early. We had heard about the snorkling there from tripadvisor and couldn't wait. It was the best snorkling that we did in Mexico. You walk out the back of the hotel and see the most wonderful fish. It was wonderful. We had done excursions in Cancun and it was the difference between night and day. The hotel staff was wonderful and always nice. We did not have problems with the people from timeshare, we just said we were not interested and we never were asked again. The rooms were super clean and the housekeeping lady even took extra care in our room with the things we left out. We tipped her well because boy did she deserve it. She even put two swans on our bed with pink and blue bows when she found out that it was our honeymoon. It was a perfect honeymoon. We are planning to go back next summer. I have a 12 y/o daughter from a previous marriage and she will return with us. I want her to expierince Mexico from the best hotel on the island and that is definately CORAL PRINCESS

Just returned home from the Coral Princess in Cozumel. Overall the stay there was just OK. The first night there our A/C died so we woke up hot repeatedly through the night having to turn it on over and over, but it would only stay on for 5 minutes at a time. We called the desk at 6AM to have someone fix it and after it became apparent it would take awhile we went down and had breakfast at 6:30. After eating, we checked in with the front desk and they said it was fixed. Went back up to catch some more sleep and the A/C cut off after 10 minutes, not fixed. We ended up being moved to another room which had working A/C, but was closer to the construction, painting going on the outside of the building. Consequently, every morning we were awakened by noise about 8:15, even though if you asked the front desk work wasn't supposed to start until 9 or 10 AM. I didn't get to sleep in one night of my trip. On the up side, the staff are really friendly, the pool and "beach" are great, the chips, guacamole and happy hours, all fantastic. With no construction, it would have been great. We were in Room 819 and the pulley system the painters were using was on the roof direction above room 919 where our friends were staying. If you can stay in a room around the fifth floor on the other side of the hotel, you'll be better off, but who knows, they may paint the whole building so they'll be moving around, just have to ask before you go.

We stayed at the Coral Princess from July 23 - 30, after finding out our AI resort was closed due to Hurricane Emily. Our wedding plans were also up in the air, and first contact with Luis (the sales manager / wedding coordinator) indicated just how helpful he would be. He drove in on the Sunday to meet with us and helped us plan a wedding in four days!

The rooms were perfect, we had an ocean view room with 2 double beds. The bathroom was very large, and everything was clean when we got there. We too found that any card will keep the electricity on, so we didn't have to leave a room key there. THe only complaint was that our A/C didn't work the first night we were there, but it got promptly fixed the next morning.

The rooms were cleaned immaculately daily, with sea shells made out of towels on the bed. On the day of our wedding, the maids made up two swans (a groom and a bride) out of towels, as well as a rose and placed them on our bed...it was so pretty.

The food in the restaurant is really good (I recommend the fahjitas) and very reasonably priced. The free breakfast was really good as well, although I recommend upgrading to the American breakfast.

The staff was all very accomodating, especially with only the service elevator working and they had to wait for all us guests to use that at the same time as they were trying to clean and such.

I'd recommend this hotel for families and honeymooners alike!

I had a great time at Coral Princess. It has a nice place to swim and the rooms are fine. The food is OK and much better and significantly cheaper than most of Cozumel (hint-don't go to Cozumel for the food). I actually walked to town from the hotel and took a cab back ($3). I noticed a previous review that suggested that the hotel was 3 or 4 miles from town. I would estimate that it is about a mile and a half. I also noted an earlier review complaining that there are only a few TV channels in English. This is true, but hey...guess what...you are in Mexico!!! Broaden your horizons a bit. The staff is friendly and helpful. If you are a drinker, the best plan is to buy a bottle at the grocery store. Overall Coral Princess is a great deal if you want a good hotel at a decent rate.

Just returned from 6 nights at the Coral Princess with husband and 25 year old daughters. We had asked for a two bedroom suite, ocean view, non smoking. When we got there, we were given a two bedroom suite- but only one bedroom had an ocean view. The rooms were labeled smoking rooms- but there was absolutely no smoky smell (thank heavens). Rooms were clean, view was gorgeous (from our 6th floor balcony we could look down and see fish swimming in the ocean- that's how clear the water is). First two days there was quite a bit of rain- which apparently bred some very hungry mosquitos. Our first trip into town we bought insect repellant and that helped tremendously. After that the weather was great. We ate several meals in the on-premises restaurant and began to get very tired of the food, but that really is our only complaint. I'd consider going back to this hotel- but would want to try it out of the rainy season.

Bought a air/hotel package last minute and decided on the Coral Princess because of the on-site diving facility. We were shuttled from the airport with no problem, however the return cab driver refused to take our return voucher, insisting on charging us $9USD. We found a rep from Worry-Free Vacations outside the airport and he handled the problem (and I suppose paid the driver).

We had previously (2/04) stayed in town at the Casa Mexicana and thoroughly enjoyed the hotel and location, wanted to try something different ... big mistake. The hotel is quite a bit further than the 2-3 miles they advertise from downtown, although a cab ride downtown is $3 to $4 depending on the driver. There is a restaurant in the hotel, however eating there 3 meals a day gets rather repetitive, although the prices are reasonable, after a while all the food tastes the same. Tried a pizza once and it had bologna on top (supposed to be ham). The barbecue chicken was acceptable, but nothing was outstanding. Breakfast was pretty good, well worth the $2.20 each to upgrade to the American plan. We (husband and self) ate all breakfasts and probably 50% of our lunch/dinners there and charged it to our room ... our total bill on Mastercard was less than $130 for 7 days. (FYI ~ Domino's Pizza (with real meat) delivers to the hotel in 30 min.)

Pepe's Scuba experience was so-so, their fast boats are more like trawlers, at least they limit capacity to 6-8 divers. Since they teach a short PADI course at the hotel, most divers are inexperienced first-timers. Divemasters are apparently not experienced enough to test for dangerous conditions. A bad experience with the Santa Rosa wall~ would not recommend for inexperienced divers. Tank rental is reasonable for diving off-shore (quite an abundant colorful sealife).

As was previously stated by others, the front desk and the gift shop refuse to give your change back in $US but we had no trouble using a credit card to charge our rooms or scuba package.

Now to our room ... we were given a room overlooking the front entrance facing the wooded lot across the road from the hotel. The bellboy indicated we had to use our electronic room key to operate the electricity in the room, including the a/c. However we found that any card would do ... we used the 'do not disturb' sign to leave it on when we left, rather than coming back to a hot stuffy room. We had requested and paid for a king-size room/non-smoking. The brochures promise a coffeemaker and refrigerator (none included). In fact, the room was 2 double beds with barely room to walk between. A small desk and large armoire holding the tv took up the rest of the room. There was a small round table with a chair in the corner, but the chair was in the way everytime you tried to get to the sliding door. The balcony was 2ft. deep, just enough room to walk out, not enough room for a chair. When opening the door to the closet, it hit the bed. Found a roach crawling out of the closet, another under our suitcase, and one in the bathroom ... all separate days, still totally unsettling. The bedding and towels were clean, bathroom (shower only) facilities and tv reception acceptable, but the bugs and room size was not. Supposedly they were totally booked and not able to switch our room, but needless to say we were ready to leave the Coral Princess and won't be back.
