We were told this was the original beach from the "Miles away from Ordinary" Corona ads. It's so pretty - I believe it!

I recently visited Passion Island on during my 2013 Christmas cruise with Carnival. It was a pricey $70-80 per person (via catamaran) but seemed worth it given it's a private beach with a buffet lunch and unlimited drinks. Overall, I give it a rating of 3 for the beautiful beach and friendly service. But in terms of value for money, this one doesn't quite meet expectations.

1) The Beach: beautiful white sandy beach, thanks to the maintenance efforts of the local staff. Since it's a private beach, it's not THAT crowded. However, do note that visitors are only allowed on a small section of the island/beach. The whole island was NOT open to us. Throughout the day, several waves of additional tourists arrived, so I can imagine the beach getting crowded on a busy day. With regards to the beach itself, I've heard white sandy beaches such as this one can also be found in Florida, so it's not the most "exotic" item which would warrant a hefty price tag.

2) The service: very friendly bar-staff! They frequently approach you, offering to take away your empty glasses and bring you new drinks. Our guide, Jorge, was also a great guy. It's very clear these staff genuinely want to ensure you enjoy your stay there.

3) The food and drinks: unlimited food and drinks was a big draw, but also a big disappointment. The buffet was small (bland pasta, chicken, fish, nuggets....basically the other reviewers have already gone through the list). If you are a vegetarian or have any kind of dietary restrictions, you will find it hard to eat a hearty meal here. The drinks were good, but very, very diluted. So don't expect to get any kind of "buzz" just from the cocktails here.

4) The activities. There are perhaps 2 or 3 kayaks, 1 windsurf set, 2 water trampolines...etc. Basically, great selection of activities, but not much of each. Unfortunately, the day we went had strong winds. So kayaking and windsurfer was out of the question. The only thing left was the water trampoline. Super fun, but a bit old. Some of the protective matting was pealing, thereby exposing the metal rods underneath. A bit dangerous for kids (and adults) if you ask me. As well, even if the windsurfing set was available (which is the coolest of all the activities!), there was no instructor to give a lesson, or any tips. Therefore, you really have a to be an experienced windsurfer in order to do this activity here.

Overall, the beach is beautiful. Coming from Canada, definitely not a beach I see everyday (but apparently yes if you are from Florida, or so I've heard!). However, with bland and limited food choice, diluted drinks and lack of selection (and instructors) for water activities, you basically end up paying $70 per person to go sit at a nice beach. For a family of 4 or 5, this will add up, and I'm sure you could find equally beautiful and more interesting places at a better price.

Improvement tips for the staff:
- Please expand the food selection; include more options for people with dietary restrictions (i.e. vegetarians).
- Add additional water sports options (i.e. jet skis). Please make instructors available (it's okay if an extra fee is needed for lessons).

Hope this was helpful!

We loved our time at Passion Island. From the moment we arrived in Cozumel to the moment we arrived back not a single complaint. The kids, ages 9, 11 and 13 all had a blast. The water trampoline was a huge hit with all of them. It was a windy day and we were not allowed to use kayaks or pedal boats, which was fine with everyone. They had life jackets we could use free of charge, which made my 9 and 11 year old feel much more comfortable swimming out in the rough water. The food was all good. Something for everyone, fries and chicken nuggets for the picky eaters and fish, pasta, chips with guac, salads. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Quick to answer questions, fill your drinks and help you out. We had Alex /Alejandro as our guide and he was entertaining and so fun! I would highly recommended this trip!

This was a really beautiful island. There were a lot of inflatables and some of them were broken so the ones that were left were really busy. The drinks and food were okay. It was a really beautiful place. The best part was the twister ride that we took to get there! That is a really fun experience!
