Owner description: Although not as popular as Chichén Itzá, these ancient Mayan ruins are noteworthy in their own right, as this is the site where Mayan women paid tribute to the goddess of love and fertility.

We didn't take a cruise excursion here and just used the local taxi service from the pier. It was like $60 fixed price for the whole family and he waited until we were done and brought us back. Kids were also free at the park so definitely ended up cheaper than excursion prices though we did have to wait in line for a taxi.
We've never been to ruins or even Mexico before so can't compare but we liked what we saw here. We wandered around and explored at our own place, climbing over the ruins in the places the signs didn't say not to and keeping our eyes peeled for the iguanas which hide in the nooks and crannies in between the stones. Combined with the heat the walk almost ended up being too much for my daughter and we had to stop often for water breaks. The path is also rugged stone in most places so wouldn't recommend to anyone with mobility issues either. But definitely was lots of fun and well worth the visit.

San Gervasio excursion tour was nice. Take the early tour before it gets too hot. If the guide tries to sell you black coral jewelry don't buy it. It's endangered and US customs will take it.

We ( family of 4 with two kids aged 6 and 9) visited this site after a morning snorkelling the Cozumel reefs. It was a welcome relief from the extreme tourism of those snorkel trips. We had visited both Tulum and Coba earlier that week and whilst this site is not as impressive it gave you a great insight in to a Mayan town; the hand prints on their temples are impressive. Good guides ( but not many of them). Easy to visit on your own by getting a taxi or rental car there. Not sure why there are two fees ( both modest) though with separate people and booths; looks like a job creation scheme! Also it closes early because it caters for the cruise ships which dominate the tourism on Cozumel. We visited in the afternon when most cruise ship passengers have left.

We were on a cruise and a trip to the San Gervasio Mayan ruins and a stop at a beach were on the excursion agenda at Cozumel. It was an excellent trip, overbooked in fact, and we were lucky to get on the extra A/C bus they put on. We have seen other Mayan ruins but these were "intimate" and close together so there was less walking than is often the case. However, the ground is rough and if you have mobility problems, be ready to move carefully. That is not to say that you shouldn't go on this tour, just go slowly and be careful. Our guide, Mike, was thoroughly knowledgeable and carried lots of illustrative material to show us as we moved around. There is a gift shop (where isn't there one?) which holds some interesting souvenirs or gifts for folks back home. We were also provided with a free bottle of water which was a nice gesture.
To our surprise and delight, after we left the ruins, Mike suggested that those on the tour who did not want to go to the beach could be taken back to the ship instead after he had dropped the beachnics off. We are not beach people, so we took that opportunity. I'd certainly recommend this tour to all ages of tourists.

Nacho, our guide was fantastic. As a native and mayan descendant he shared so much info with us it made the trip informative and fun!
