“Fantastic time at El Cozumeleno Beach Resort - Cozumel”
Reviewed September 19, 2010

We've been to Cozumel 7 times via the cruise ships but this was the first time we stayed at El Cozumeleno Beach Resort on the north end of Cozumel. What a fantastic time from the moment we got there. Extremely clean. The food was excellent whether is was the ala carte or dinner at night at La Veranda which featured steak/shrimp, Yucatan dishes, lasagna, salmon and more. A lot of people here on trip advisor have made comments about the birds in the outside dining room but wasn't an issue for us. A few would land on the floor but that is about it. The food is mostly prepared in another location and then brought out to the dining table. We met Jorge who waited on us and who is a favorite here on trip advisor. The drinks are strong if you ask for double shots. We tipped the waiters, bartenders and maid staff for the excellent service. Best time to come to Cozumel is September and October as the hotel only has about 20% occupancy. I've posted some videos of our trip your might like to view including one with Margarita at Isis Car Rental who many here on Trip Advisor recommend: http://tiny.cc/e83gk

I would say this is an average resort. We stayed for 6 days and were pretty pleased. It is surely nothing spectacular. The snorkeling in front of the resort was good. We saw a couple barracudas’ and stingrays. The buffet wasn’t that good at all, I would recommend ordering from the menu or making a reservation at the restaurant. Make sure you order drinks by specific brand names such as a Bacardi and Coke instead of Rum and Coke. The pool wasn’t the cleanest but was clean enough to cool of in for just a bit. I would recommend this hotel to someone for the value but I have stayed at resorts that compare in price that are a lot nicer (Fiesta Americana Dive Resort). Only because I have been to other resorts on the island though I probably wouldn’t recommend this resort to a friend.

Your every need is met and then some. The hotel, pools, beach and the sea are beautiful. You wake up to a gorgeous sunrise. The clouds turn pink as the sun sets. The service is perfecto! Just don't forget your sunglasses.

my wife and I just got back from 10 day's at the el coz, resort and we had the time of our lives, this is our third time at the el cozumeleno. I have read all the negitive reviews but I really don't get it,lets be honest this is NOT A 5 STAR RESORT,but the people who work there do everything to make your trip nice and they do a great job.the food is fine and we always found something to eat,and the indoor res. has great food and great service.the beach kicks butt and the fish are everywhere, the pool was fine the reason it feels slimmy is because people smear themselves with a ton of lotion and jump in the pool,I saw it all day long,we stayed on the 2nd floor room 1209 we loved the view and maid service was fantastic we always leave something for house keeping and she made us wonderful animals out of the towels(really cool)the people work VERY hard to make the resort look great and it does, rent a jeep and go check out the rest of the island and go have fun, fack is some poeple will never be happy and nothing is ever good enough so dont listen to them, we go on vacation to have fun and we always do,the band RED EYE was there playing some great music you'll really enjoy them, they also play at the money bar, go there and have some great food as well, all in all its up to you to make your vacation fun and its not just one thing its a combination of all of it so dont get hung up on one thing that may not be perfect , go have fun and be thank-ful that you had the money to do it,we dove 8 great dive's and the people who dive know what I mean it just cant be beat ,the EL COZUMELENO will treat you right, have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The El Cozumeleno is ok. I wouldn't stay there again and I wouldn't recommend it to friends without first setting their expectations. It is a clean room on the beach, next to beautiful blue waters and tropical fish that swim right up to you and circle you. It is decent drinks beachside. It is hardworking, diligent people who want to get it right. It is also below average food, occasionally dirty pools, questionably clean cups, and older, well-worn furnishings in various states of repair. In other words, it is fine as a place to rest your head at night, but there are elements of it that make it difficult to recommend without reservation. In addition, and I'll sound like a real snob here, but it appears to attract a certain clientele... lots of heavy, chain smoking people content to get drunk in and smoke cigarettes in the pool all afternoon. If that's your scene, you'll love it. There were plenty of people looking to that as their vacation and as far as I could tell, they thought El Cozumeleno was shangri-la. We're used to a different crowd, and if you are too, you might be disappointed with the crowd. Also, Donatello's (the kareoke/"night club") is a riot in a cheesy, 1980's sort of way. I'm certain it hasn't been updated since then.... I felt like I was transported onto the scene of Scarface and/or a fraternity house basement.

We just got back from 10 days at the lovely El Cozumeleno and have nothing but good things to say... well for the most part!! The resort is very beautiful and clean, the staff are wonderful, the beach is glorious and offers good snorkling right there, and we were always able to find some thing to eat!! Sure, the buffet for dinner isn't the best bet, but we found something there to eat when we didn't eat at the inside restaurant. The morning buffet offers a great selection of fruits and juices and a fantastic omlette bar to choose your own ingredients from. The lunches were very good if you ordered off the menu (fajitas and quesadillas) and, although I'm sick of Dos Equis beer now, it quenched my thirst then!!! The inside, fancier restaurant had very good food and we very much enjoyed our meals there. The drinks were indeed weak, but they will give you doubles and triples, no problem. You must specify if you want top shelf, and they'll gladly give you a stiff drink!! We brought our own cooler-type cups for keeping beer/drinks cold and getting soft drinks from the self serve bar and were glad we did. We snorkled at our hotel beach everyday, several times a day, and were never disappointed, except for the last day when the snorkle/swim area was invavded by little jellies capable of inflicting nasty little stings!! It looked as totherhough there were alot of kid friendly activities at the hotel, and you can pretty much book any activity you're interested in right there in the lobby of the resort!! The resort is close to downtown, but far enough away to be out of the hustle and bustle of it.We slept fine in our bed, though we like very firm mattresses, and we had an incredible view and enjoyed great maid service!! Great place for the money... I mean it's very affordable, beautiful, safe, clean, and fun!!! What more could you ask for??? Don't believe all the negative things you hear about this fantastic resort... we'll return again in the future!!

Really enjoyed the resort!!!! Great snorkeling and good food! The service was wonderful. Met some amazing people there and can't wait to go back!
DO NOT USE PRICELINE EVER!!!! This was the worse decision of our whole trip. We went through hell trying to fix our reservations after they changed them and DID NOT NOTIFY US OF ANY CHANGES!!!!! We are still trying to work things out and they are not even willing to produce an apology......PLEASE DO NOT USE THEM!!!!!!
