Had we not had monsoon rains during most of our stay, it would have been a much better vacation, but the rain and the poor snorkeling due to the freshwater run-off into the area out front had nothing to do with the resort. In fact, El Cozumeleno has actually built 2 piers to help prevent water turbidity from this and the Melia just north had no good snorkeling while we were there. Had we had not had storms, I think the snorkeling would have been some of the best on the island.
The staff here are exceptional and worked so hard during this adverse weather to try to make everyone happy and keep everything working.
The room and grounds are beautiful. I did not realize we would not have a coffee maker or fridge in the room until we got there. For extra $$, that is available.
The food is good, very good at the restaurant which requires reservations.
The bed was comfortable, the shower large with hot water. Our room view was fantastic. One last tip, bring Deet insect spray if you come in the rainy season.
