Presidente Inter-Continental Cozumel Resort & Spa
Ranked #3 of 52 Hotels in Cozumel
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed January 6, 2009

Great trip and great hotel. This is not an all inclusive but it works out for the best. Cozumel is easy to navigate and is oriented towards visitors, so you don't want to be tied to the hotel.

Short drive from airport, check in very smooth. Had an ocean view room and was not dissapointed.

Dined at bar/restaraunt, oceanfront restaraunt, & alfredo's restaraunt. Food was good, not super expensive for being on resort. Service excellent at alfredo's, good at others. Staff very friendly, spoke english well. Room service was prompt and friendly.

Had nice pools but stuck to the beach. Also had "pyramids" with iguanas which was cool. Beach is not a real beach, there are two small areas where the sand meets the water, otherwise it is mostly rocks. However this is because there is great snorkling right off the docks. Saw a small barracuda among other fish. Dive shops pick up from the hotel docks also.

Staff was accomodating with setting up restaraunts, etc. offsite. Did not in any way give us a hard sell or much sell at all on condos.

I would highly recommend renting a car to visit the other areas of the island rather than booking trips. There is a major brand car rental at the hotel. Other side of island has rolling surf and large sandy beaches which are free of tourists. The ecopark was nice, very nice beach, saw various birds and crocodiles (gators?). Beware that snorkling is very far offshore and is not enclosed by bouys. National park had good snorkling and decent beach, got pretty busy late AM. Coconuts restaraunt on other side of island has decent food, cold beer, & a cool view. Did not spend much time in the city except driving. I did feel that when getting gas I was ripped off (It is full service) since I could not see the meter, in addition to being metric and paying in pesos. I ended up paying about $11 to fill up when gauge was still touching "Full". Although I would rent a car again in a second!

Overall the hotel was excellent, somewhat pricey considering the amount of time spent off property, but certainly wonderfull to come back to!

We just returned from ringing in the New Year's at Presidente Intercontinental Cozumel. It was absolutely wonderful. Although the property was full (esp on New Year's Eve), I never felt as though it was crowded. We didn't have any problems getting into the restaurants, spa, fitness center etc. The staff were all wonderful and the service fantastic. We stayed in one of the tower rooms. It was huge and hands down the best hotel room I have ever stayed in. My in-laws had a beach access room, and we enjoyed sunset every night sipping champagne on the terrace. The dive shop located on site was nice, but if you are diving, and don't mind spending some extra $$, go for a private boat, or at the very least, your own personal divemaster. The reefs are very crowded. If you are there during busy season, expect to see a lot of other divers and/or snorklers wherever you go. The only thing I can say this hotel could improve upon would be to have another restaurant, but considering it is not really that big of a property, I can understand why they don't. Overall, a wonderful vacation, and a wonderful time. I would definately stay there again.

We just got back from our trip at Presidente. We had a beachfront, though, it wasn't really beachfront... it was Bar/Scuba desk front.... but, gees, what do you expect for around $800/night for a room (NOT suite). We traveled with 3 kids (my husbands 2 and our 1), and had an extended family of a total of 9 kids and 8 adults.

First thing i must say, the staff was WONDERFUL!! very helpful and friendly during the entire stay. But, the hotel was really only so so. The beach pretty much sucked... pretty minimal beach/sand and, if you go in the water, expect to feel zillions of little "shocks" which are the tiny jelly fish stinging you.

The morning buffet was really great, though, some of the kids complained...but, that's a whole different story (diff parents). Our kid loved it and ate tons at both morning and evening buffets. But, they really had a great selection of foods that will tide you over for a good part of the day.

The family pool was really nice and warm (heated). The grownup pool was empty, so, i let my (quiet) son swim with me in it... employees didn't care.

We went into town a couple of times and enjoyed other restaurants. I'll write reviews on them later... but, though I enjoyed this trip just to get away from cold weather, i doubt i'd go back to Cozumel. We hired a boat for a 3 hour tour/snorkel trip... but, jellyfish nailed you so much it wasn't fun... and, the fish were very exciting anyway.... i prefer snorkeling in other parts of the carribean....

oh!! and the day we left, one of the wood beams just above the hammock where my 70 year old father in law was reading a book FELL and JUST MISSED CRUSHING HIS HEAD BY INCHES!!! we found out later that we were the last people to stay in that wing prior to a full renovation! gee! thanks for letting us pay premium prices for less than average rooms!! and almost killing my FIL!!

Stayed with my two employees and my wife over Thanksgiving weekend and it was very relaxing and enjoyable. This was our second year in a row staying over this holiday, and there were not many people in the hotel, which is what we like.

Our room was in the main building, but on the first floor. The rooms here are smaller than floors 2-4, but are higher priced. At the time, our upgrade to a room twice the size of the first floor was only $20 per night. One thing to note is the additional taxes that are charged here on the island. Ask beforehand if you are not used to paying high tax rates (and what place isn't these days).

We went scuba diving with Scuba Du. Antonio answered many questions before we came for our visit and offered additional trips that they were trying to get experienced divers for. Their crew was first rate and did most of the tedious work (changing out tanks between dives, setting up our gear initially) that made our dives that much more enjoyable. The dives themselves were something we will remember forever. 80 degree air temps and 79 degree water ruled the weekend. And while diving, visibility must have been 200 feet because I thought we were diving in a glass of water. We could see forever! I would strongly recommend Scuba Du for diving in Cozumel.

The hotel was a little pushy in getting you to sit through their pitch for buying into their time share program. We passed.

The spa was much better than a year ago. Their prices are now reasonable (about 30-50% cheaper than what I remember a year ago)...and priced appropriately for the services provided. Not many people were using the spa, since it was holiday weekend.

The Italian restaurant on the property is very upscale in appearance, yet we were casual and didn't feel out of place. The chef made a custom-meal for me and it was great!

Our last night a cold front came though (meaning high winds and 70 degrees instead of 75)...so we took up a card game at the main restaurant/bar. They closed, but no one chased us out until we were ready to go. You probably would not find that kind of accommodation in the States.

Overall, we will probably go back again next year. The prices are reasonable, the staff very friendly, and the diving out of this world. Highly recommended for the resort and the scuba diving!

The staff at the hotel are very friendly. We booked one of the cheaper rooms and were surprised that there was only a shower. We had a relatively nice view and the room was a nice size.
However at night walking the corridors can be somewhat spooky as they are dark.
The main pool is very nice but not heated and we found the water cold.
There is also no real beach. Just a small bay where one must watch out for incoming boats. One can swim off the rocks though as there are are stairs into the water. However I prefer a real beach.
The hotel is located next to town and the taxi only costs about $5 for a 10 minute ride.
We found the food good and well priced. We spent 2 nights here and 3 nights at the Grand Occidental, an all inclusive resort on a very nice beach. If you include food we probably paid 50% more at the Intercontinental.
We were happy that we split our stay 2 nights here and 3 nights at the Grand. Both were nice experiences. However if you want a real beach and evening entertainment then the Grand is better but not as elegant.
The hotel is in a great location for excursions.

This hotel was absolutely worth every penny we spent on it. The staff was so incredibly helpful and nice. We never once passed anyone in the hallways or along the sidewalks leading to the pools who did not greet us with an enthusiastic "!Buenos dias/tardes/noches!". It amazed us how immaculate everything was; there was someone almost almost grooming the beach, cleaning the breezeways, etcetera. The restaurants there were very good as well - Caribeno was great for breakfast, especially the buffet - YUM! The Italian restaurant was excellent as well. I cannot say enough good things about this hotel.
We stayed in an Ocean suite, which was incredibly beautiful and well-decorated. There were fresh hibiscus blooms lining the tub, bedclothes, and bathroom sinks each day as well as a fresh-water lily the bloomed throughout the course of our stay on the living room cocktail table, which I thought was a nice touch.
I am certain that you would not regret staying here, even if it is a little more expensive than other hotels in the area - it was definitely worth it.
The snorkeling off of the beach right outside of the hotel was amazing as well - we saw several of the same beautiful fish that I saw while out Scuba diving, as well as 2 green moray eels (don't worry - they are very docile and will not bother you; they are more creatures of the night). It was better snorkeling there than when we did our cruise to the Bahamas and did a snorkeling/sailing side excursion! Wow! Can't say enough...!

The Presidente was a wonderful experience for us over Thanksgiving week. Service was solicitous, including on the beach, at the restaurant, and at the onsite car rental. the food was good including buffet breakfast and dinner. the resort was elegant but never did we feel uncomfortable in shorts or bathing suits. We snorkeled, did not dive, and found the snorkeling on both sides of the beach superb as well. We appreciated that there are snorkeling piers to protect the reef and also to help ease getting into the water, and that the snorkeling area was marked off so we didn't have to worry about boats coming too close to us while we were snorkeling. Because this is the off season, we were upgraded to a suite. We had a large whirlpool tub with views of the ocean. All the ocean view rooms had a balcony or, if on the first floor, hammocks on their patios. Our best day was when we rented a jeep, and found snorkeling sites to explore on the reef (west) side of the island, and played in the surf on the lovely beaches on the east side thanks to the help of Jesus in the Thrifty office at the hotel. The only downside was that a sales pitch for the "Presidente Club" was part of our greeting by the concierge. That was a minor blip however on a close to perfect experience.
